Available for auction is a Ferrari 250 GTO Tipo 168 Engine. The Ferrari Colombo V12 engine was designed by Gioacchino Cololmbo and first introduced in 1947 in the Ferrari 125 S. This particular motor is a 3.0 liter V12 Tip 168. The seller states the motor contains the original block of a Type 168 engine and would be a great donor motor for a 250 GTO, 250 California Spyder, 250 Testarossa, 250 SVB, or a 250 Lusso.
The seller states the engine was ordered from Ferrari sometime in the 1990s by an insurance company as a replacement motor for a Swedish customer whose original engine had been stolen. The Swedish customers engine was later recovered and this engine was stored as a spare. As a replacement motor, the block was never stamped by Ferrari but all other manufacturer markings are present and various experts have confirmed its originality (please see gallery).
The engine block is a type 168, the cylinder heads and covers are type 128F and stamped APM 9776. The seller notes the oil pan and front cover are from an engine type 128 – 250 GTE.
Most recently, Sport Auto in Modena, Italy, a specialty workshop for Italian classic, overhauled the engine block and cylinder heads and fitted customs pistons. The engine is currently located in Germany and the seller has agreed to pay for shipping. The buyer is responsible for any additional handling and transactional fees.

@jedd let me know the best way to discuss this engine.
Bid in the amount of $4,025
@jedd can you source a barn find Ferrari 250 that needs a new motor? Could get that with my lotto proceeds.
If I hit the lotto before auction end, this would be a fantastic dining table base motor. Need to hit the lotto to afford the lawyers for the divorce settlement when my wife sees what I have done.
Feel free to ask further questions as we know this is a very specific and special engine for the correct buyer. Not a coffee table maker. Thanks. Respectfully JEDD
Yes. With many in Germany, Italy and France where I’ve just landed.

@jedd Are you are affiliated with a restoration company or parts supplier?

As noted by another bidder. Crank , rods, camshaft’s, and various valve components.
And as I stated I am in Europe with the engine and for the winning bidder I could assist in tracking down the various parts if needed.
Hello, I am very interested in your engine. What exactly are the parts that are missing to complete this engine? Thank you.

Yes you are correct. I’m in Germany at present and shall be here through the auction process. We can assist in sourcing the bits and pieces as my stay will be for a few weeks. Thank you
@Jedd - to confirm, this does not include the crank, rods, camshafts or any valvetrain components correct? And what about all of the various fasteners - nearly every stud is bare. I know this seems trivial, until you try to source all of the proper ones...
