Good Morning everyone, Happy Tuesday, and welcome to the last day of our Double sided Porsche Service Sign auction. Later on this afternoon, a very lucky new caretaker will be starting or adding to their collection with this rare sign.
To ensure that the sign finds a new home today, as of this morning, the RESERVE HAS BEEN LIFTED, and the high bidder takes this beauty. So, no more mystery with regard to that as it is now a NO RESERVE AUCTION from here on out.
I've had a few bidders / potential bidders making contact over the past couple of days requesting additional info on shipping and the sign's functionality. The shipping has been covered pretty thoroughly below, so those details were reiterated. Additionally, if the winner has their own ideas for shipping or another company they'd rather use, we're happy to cooperate with whatever that company or process is as well. If not, I'll stick with plan A, using my local UPS store, and putting the winner in touch with them.
With regard to the European voltage / functionality, yes, originally for outdoor “light up” duty in Europe using 220v. For it to work properly over here, certainly for the long term, I would recommend having it professionally converted to 110 by an electrician or qualified hobby shop. Sure, you could keep the 220 system installed and use a converter, but that’s really a temporary solution. Option 1 would be very reasonable (even done professionally) and you could then choose your lighting method; regular appliance bulb group, a few standard light fixture bulbs, or go fancy with neon or even led. All of those options are an easy retrofit and very efficient as well. The last several 220v signs we sold were converted by the winners. They reported back that it was cheap and fast. One even texted me a picture of his sign hanging in his collection, lit up, literally 2 days after receiving. Hope that helps with that issue.
Now, with a few hours to go, I still have plenty of pictures to add. So, this morning’s batch will be more of the same combination that seems to be working for us. They may look like the same pictures, but they're all different. Scrutinize the angle, bracket location, and view to see the subtle changes. Enjoy some more of the fun display choices in anticipation of creating your own. I’ll be back shortly with more great photos. Enjoy your Tuesday.

Good Morning Everyone, and Happy Sunday. I hope folks are enjoying their weekend so far and getting a chance to unwind from last week's work while charging up for the coming work week.
On an invitation from a fellow car-buddy, I went to The Auto Show here in Chicago for the first time in maybe 15 years, or more. It's not that I'm less of a car guy lately, but rather new offerings from the manufacturers in general don't really excite me, and haven't for a while. Contrary to that, I think that the Porsche line is probably one of a very small handful that has honestly gotten better and more exciting over the years. Whereas I can't see myself buying any remotely new product from car makes in general, I could easily see myself buying, even enjoying several of the current Porsche cars. I'm certainly not a fan of electrics as a whole, but I have to say that the few cars that bear the Porsche crest are quite attractive. I'm also glad that they saw the "error in their ways" with regard to eliminating manuals from their line up. An error so obvious for an "Enthusiast's" car, that I can't understand how Ferrari hasn't noticed and come around. Especially, since you don't have to be an automotive journalist to notice that manual cars (of every marque) go for a 50% premium, if not more. But the whole manuals going away is a whole other conversation.
Oddly, among several other high line brands, Porsche was absent from this year's show. I don't think I realized that until a moment ago. The other notable absentee marques that I can recall were Mercedes, Audi, and Alfa. I can only guess that the "no show" marques are doing well enough that they feel like they don't have to spend the money or go to the effort to be present at an auto show. Other than being hard pressed to find a vehicle in any genre that DIDN'T have some kind of hybrid or plug in theme, I was probably most surprised by the Toyota display as it took up maybe 1/3 the show; it was enormous. And, as far as I can tell, they're doing just fine sales-wise, so my theory clearly has some holes in it. Anyway, I enjoyed the day, but it left me puzzled as to where the market, or at least offerings in general, are heading. Thanks for listening (reading).
@amorse, Thank you for your repeat bids, especially the 959::--)))
@brg41, Thanks for your bid.
@porsche912, Thank you for YOUR repeat bids, and you're on top.
Anyhow, whether or not Porsche attends an auto show won't matter to the winner of this amazing sign as they will be able to (re)create a Porsche experience in their own home, office, or man cave. So, to keep things interesting, here are some more pictures of our sign. Enjoy, and have a great Sunday.

I'll try to keep the pictures mixed up between the 4 different backdrops I used to keep things interesting. So, if you see a few mixed in from the original snowy grass shoot, that's why. Don't want to waste perfectly good pictures. And, you get to see what the sign looks like in different lighting.
@EPS, Thank you for your fun Porsche appropriate bid, and you're on top.

Thanks going out to those viewing, watching, and bidding.
@G-Dub, @amorse, Thank you for your repeat bids.
@Nine6Four, Cool handle, and Thanks for the bid.
With the whole weekend ahead of us, I'll step up the picture adding to give folks something to view for the next couple of days. It's been snowing on and off consistently here in Chicago for the past 4 days so shoveling has been a daily activity. Makes me even more happy that I took advantage of that dry and sunny window early last week enabling me to provide these great pictures of our sign. Check them out, enjoy your Saturday, and I'll be back a little later with some more.

@artichoke @artichoke, There are too many variables to just throw out a number, so here are the raw figures:
The single box that the sign came in from Europe is 38"x 34"x 8", and they weigh under 45 pounds together (sign and box). You can use those figures to get yourself a custom quote from either UPS, FedEx, or USPS using their website estimation tools. There will however be some variables such as what the winner chooses for insured value, if the winner decides to do additional packaging like crating as @Hoosierstangs suggested below, or double boxing as I mentioned in the same post. Here's generally how I've addressed shipping in the past:
Unless otherwise instructed, items go out the same way they came in. In this case, we have the sturdy, reinforced box that the sign came in from Europe. We will reuse this in getting it to the next caretaker. My local UPS store is amazing at Custom Items like this. They could potentially make a smaller box to go into the large box, make an even bigger box to take the existing box, or whatever the winner chooses. Upon auction end and payment made, I will take it to them, put the winner in touch with the packaging specialist there, and together you can decide on everything from Final packaging to insured value. I’ve been doing this for years and everyone has always been happy with the process. Historically, USPS is the cheapest, but they literally just measure, weigh, and slap the sticker on. UPS and FedEx are generally a little more, but you get way more service and security as THEY WILL PACKAGE ITEMS THEMSELVES while only charging for materials. For my money, that's the way to go as they assume the liability if something breaks or goes wrong. Not worth saving a buck to get a box that's full of broken glass. I've been there, and it's not fun.
Hope that helps.

Any idea of shipping cost to Maryland, 20814?
Good Morning, Happy Thursday (Friday jr, or Friday eve), and welcome to day #3 of our Double sided Porsche Service sign auction. Apologies for yesterday's absence, but the storm we got here in Chicago just kept on going. So, by the time all the shoveling was done, so was I. But, we’ve now rounded the corner, or gone over the “Hump” of the week and are heading toward the beloved weekend. Thanks to the folks who have viewed and are watching the auction.
It seems like there's always a few Porsche signs on offer at all times here, on bat, heck, even on facebook. After a while, they all start to look alike. It doesn't take much time to see that this sign is pretty rare in condition, size, and design. Aside from a couple spots where the frame is slightly separated which I've captured in pictures, the entire aluminum frame and brackets are absolutely immaculate. Same goes for both front and rear panels; not a mark on them. Don't take my word for it; just punch in "PORSCHE SIGN" into the search window, and peruse through the the hundreds of past listings. After about an hour, I couldn't find anything close, so I just gave up.
@amorse, Thank you for getting us started with your opening bid.
Also rare, is sunshine in Chicago during Winter; which is why I’m so happy to have taken additional pictures of the sign when I had the chance. So, check out the added shots, and have a great Thursday.
Bid in the amount of $100
@Hoosierstangs @Hoosierstangs, Thanks for the question. We intend to ship the sign in the same sturdy box that brought it to us from Europe. It was thoroughly padded inside with styrofoam and bubble wrap, and the box was securely taped up. If the winner desires, he / she can request to have it double boxed at the UPS store where we'll bring it for shipping. My local UPS store is amazing at Custom Items like this. They could potentially make a smaller box to go into the large box, a LARGER box to take the existing box, or whatever the winner chooses. I don't know if they do crating there, but it wouldn't surprise me. I will take it to them and put the winner in touch with the specialist there and they can decide on everything from Delivery product, Final packaging, to insured value. I’ve been doing this for years and everyone has always been happy with the process. Hope that helps.
Good Evening everyone, Happy Tuesday, Happy belated New Year, Merry February, and welcome to the auction of this rare and authentic double sided European Porsche Dealership Service Sign. Wow, that’s sure a mouthful!
With the holidays in our respective rearview mirrors, I hope folks had a relaxing and enjoyable holiday season. I also hope that you're not still cleaning up from holiday guests or College kids that left your house in a mess:::–))))). I love the holidays, love my extended family and College kids being home, but REALLY love when everybody leaves. Seems like we just got the house looking decent, so can't wait for those College kids to come back for Spring Break and trash it again, UGH!
So, to help get everybody back into their routine, there's nothing better than spending some quality time on P-Car checking out cool things like this Porsche Service Sign. So, whether you’re home all week, traveling for work, or just biding time at the office until you “punch out”, we’re happy to have folks stopping by to check this out.
If you’re looking at this, then you are a Porsche fan, a memorabilia fan, and probably have a collection that you're looking to add to. You may also be looking at this and thinking that it's about time that you STARTED that memorabilia collection because you've waited long enough, and dog gone it, you've earned it. In either case, this sign sure deserves to either be in a great collection, or the centerpiece of a new collection. It is out of a LOCAL collection that happens to be owned by a long time friend who is a HUGE Porsche guy. For decades, he’s been finding and collecting some of the rarest memorabilia you’ve ever seen; signs, plaques, clocks, crests, die cast models, you name it, he’s got it. His memorabilia collection takes up almost as much room as his car collection; and that’s REALLY saying something.
Now, with the kids out of the house, and their rooms displaying some of these collectibles, the realization has set in that he can’t possibly display everything. So, the decision has been made to let some of it go, and here we are.
Over the next 7 days, I’m sure we’ll be presenting this amazing sign from every angle. Folks who follow my auctions know that I’ve always got a stash of back up pictures to add in as we go; and this listing is no exception. Obviously, discussing a sign for 7 days isn’t as exciting as watching driving videos, but I’ll try to keep things as interesting as possible with the discussion as well as the picture adding.
The weather wasn’t great here in Chicago when we took the first set of pictures, that's why you'll see some with the sign up on its box. It was briefly sunny and dry recently, so I took advantage and got some great additional pictures of the sign in the sun with a couple of different backgrounds. The sun really makes the crest and wording pop against the aluminum border and cream backing. I look forward to adding more of these great pictures as we go.
Would the seller be willing to crate this?
