The E24 represents the first generation of the BMW 6-Series grand touring cars and was produced from 1976 to 1989. This European-market 1981 BMW 635CSi has been refinished in its original Henna Red color over a black leather interior. Said to have been imported to the United States in 1986, it features a 3.5-liter six-cylinder engine with a Schrick 290 camshaft and headers, a dogleg 5-speed manual transmission, a limited-slip differential, reupholstered Recaro seats, and 17” Rondell wheels. Accompanied by documentation dating back to 1991, this 635CSi is now being offered for auction by its seller out of New Jersey showing just under 97k miles on the odometer.

This E24 is said to have been refinished in its factory-specified shade of Henna Red in 2006. Exterior details include Zender side skirts, a front air dam, quad headlights, fog lights, chrome trim and mirrors, a rear lip spoiler, and a dual exhaust outlet. It rides on 17” Rondell wheels with a custom metallic powder coat finished and Kumho Ecsta PS31 tires from 2018. The seller notes minor blemishes on the driver’s side front fender and rear spoiler lip. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

The interior is appointed in black leather and features Recaro sports seats that are said to have been professionally reupholstered. Details include a later-model 3-spoke BMW steering wheel, air conditioning, a sunroof with a replaced motor and carriages, replacement carpets, and replacement floor mats. The dash is reported to have been repainted at some point and a few minor blemishes are present. The seller notes that there may be a short in a trunk light and a missing light bulb under the hood, although all other gauges and accessories are reportedly working properly.

This 635CSi is equipped with an M90 3.5-liter inline six-cylinder engine that was fitted with an upgraded Schrick 290 camshaft and Stahl headers at approximately 72k miles in 1991. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a Getrag 265 close-ratio dogleg 5-speed manual transmission and limited-slip differential. Maintenance since 2010 is said to have included the replacements of the water pump, fan clutch, thermostat, fuel tank, fuel sending unit, starter motor, window motor, spark plugs, driver’s side floor pan, an alignment, a recent oil change, and more.

This sale will include a clean title, toolkit, two keys, and extensive documentation.

The seller would like you to know: “This is a European spec car. Comes with an original factory drivetrain which includes an M90 engine (flat top piston), a Dogleg 265 Getrag 5-speed trans, LSD rear, and Recaro sport seats. It has a Schrick 290 cam, installed around 72K miles along with Stahl headers. I have receipts going back to 1991. The car shifts, moves, brakes, and runs very well, an absolute pleasure to drive. No oil leaks - does not burn oil. A/C and sunroof work. This is a high-quality fun driver.”

    thank you. i believe the rear deck is original to the car which is covered with carpet. The rear speaker pods are also original with the original speakers which sound pretty good, especially for the age.

    Awesome 635! Looks nicely kept. Curious though about the rear deck/parcel shelf, can't quite tell in the pics... is that a pad or carpet you have added over it? What is the shelf's condition under that? Thanks!

    Thank you for adding the image showing the rust repair. It would appear that there may be an issue still by the front corner of the sill. Can you speak to that point? Do you have further underside photos to add showing around the diff and drive axles and front suspension etc?

    @Redstone very helpful - thanks!

  • Redstone (seller) 1 year, 1 monthago

    @DeaconBlues thanks for your comments. There's a dedicated community on bigcoupe.com that is invaluable when it comes to sourcing parts and troubleshooting issues. Lots of great information there. During the pandemic it was harder to source parts, but now that supply chains have resumed, it's much easier. The shift linkage is good. I would describe it as notchy, it's not sloppy. Compared to my 930 turbo, i would say it's even more precise, shorter throws for sure. Hope that helps.

    Beautiful shark in a phenomenal color! Euro E24s are really special. Two questions:

    How difficult has it been for you to source parts for this, given it's an E12-based car?

    How is the shift linkage? I read a comment on this car's 2016 BaT listing that it felt sloppy back then, and wondered if it had been updated.
