Available for auction is an original MotoGP GP3 front fairing, which was taken from a genuine Marlboro Team works bike that was raced during the 2003 World Championship. This fairing is fabricated from carbon fiber and includes the front mudguard which has been signed by three-time motorcycle world champion Loris Capirossi.
Having been absent from the motorcycle Road Racing Grand Prix since the 1970s, Ducati made an impressive return in 2003 following changes to the regulations in 2002 that allowed 990cc four-stroke bikes to race. Its first MotoGP entrant, the GP3, saw the marque race its first V4 ‘Desmosedici’ engine, which was effectively a pair of Ducati L-twin engines. The Ducati Marlboro team for this season consisted of Loris Capirossi and Troy Bayliss. The GP3 quickly notched up podium results, eventually leading to Capirossi placing fourth overall and Bayliss sixth, with Ducati finishing second overall in the Manufacturers’ standings.
