Available for auction is a vintage Texaco Fire Chief Tokheim 39 full-size gas pump and Texaco illuminated sign. The sign measures 34.5” in diameter with a depth of 11”. The sign is powered by a 110v grounded plug and is illuminated by retrofitted LED lighting.
The sign is constructed of an aluminum and acrylic frame with a translucent face. The gas pump measures 24” x 20” x 83” in height. The pump is constructed of original steel and has the manufacturing number of 5/51. The pump includes a fully operational computer, sight glasses and internal lighting system. The original Tokheim Model 39 was a very familiar sight at gas stations everywhere in the late 40’s and 50’s. Tokheim is an American manufacturer of fuel dispensers. It is one of the world’s leading manufacturers and servicers of fuel dispensing equipment.
The popularity of this invention, the Tokheim Dome oil pump, led to the founding of the Tokheim manufacturing company in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, in 1901. I was asked about the "functionality" of this pump. So I will post that info here.
The pump lighting functions independently from the computer and the sight glasses. So if you didn't want to actually pump mock gas through the sight glasses you could by simply unplugging the onboard pump, and eliminate that from the functionality when the pump trigger was pulled. Same with the pumps fully functional computer, all systems are wired and grounded independently from one another, and all systems are also GFI protected for safety as well.
