hi NickW21... sorry i missed your question earlier. this whale tail installs over the factory grill opening on MOST 911 deck lids. some accurate drilling is required for the mounting bolts to thread into the factory threaded clips in the edges of the whale tail opening. thank you

yes, IF I REMEMBER CORRECTLY, this was bolted on from the bottom side of the deck lid into the correlating factory threaded clips seen in the underside of the whale tail. there was a thin strip of a foam / sponge type mounting gasket to seal the whale tail to the deck lid and cushion both surface from abrasion / rattling, etc. if you make a template for your decklid bolt holes, you will be able to drill the holes in their proper position for good alignment. POSSIBLY, if you dig deep enough, there MAY BE a schematic / template to be found SOMEWHERE on line, or in a 1980's Porsche factory service updates for whale tail assembly instructions? i was offered $1,000 earlier today. soooo, i counter offered him / her at $2,000 and have since asked P Car how to lower my 'buy it now' price to that amount. $2,000 is the lowest price i will accept just because of the wonderful condition of this piece. thank you

I've never seen just the tail without the lid for sale before. I've got a 79 G-body. Does this simply bolt onto the existing lid or would I need to buy a lid catered to the spoiler?

the red paint is in very nice condition. to the best of my knowledge, it has never been resprayed. i have not polished it or waxed it in the 12 years i have owned this piece. the rubber lip is also in very good condirion with 1 very minor scuff (barely noticeable) on left (driver"s side) corner bottom. both the paint and the rubber will clean up nicely with detailing materials of your choosing. only the whale tail as seen in photos is being sold - no other brackets or mounting hardware. this unit was on my 1973.5 2.7 911 that i owned till 2009 or so. i removed this piece as soon as i bought the car and i went with the stock factory engine cover configuration. this piece has always been kept in my home as a decoration. as far as i know, the previous car owner had always kept the car indoors and kept the car covered. it was a very nice car. i just preferred the 'original look' on my '73.5 911. thank you

hi, thank you for looking at my 1983 dated 930 Porsche "Whale Tail". this would make a great bolt on piece for your car, or a great display piece for your shop, home or office.
