Available for auction is a remarkable pair of vintage Heuer dashboard timepieces: the Super Autavia and the Monte Carlo, both icons of motorsport and aviation history. The Super Autavia, introduced in 1958, is believed to be a Mk 1.5 edition featuring a second-generation case and the Valjoux 5 movement. Hailed as the first dashboard chronograph for motorcars, powerboats, and airplanes, it simultaneously displays Time of Day and Time of Trip, making it a true chronograph with a 30-minute stopwatch capacity.
Many collectors consider the Super Autavia the ultimate Heuer dashboard timepiece. The serial number, 7643, suggests a manufacture date of July 1964. The Monte Carlo, designed for motorsport enthusiasts, features a stopwatch mechanism with a 12-hour timer, perfect for rallying and endurance racing. Its serial number, 15726, indicates the final version with tritium luminescent hands.
The seller states both watches are in good condition, showing some patina from being mounted on the dash of my competition vintage rally car, and would benefit from professional cleaning and inspection by a qualified jeweler. They remain operational.
