Originally delivered in Madrid, this European-spec 1972 BMW 2002tii was reportedly used for rally racing throughout Spain during the 1970s and 80s including Rally de Invern Cataluña, Rally Costa Brava, Rally Platja d'aro, Rally 2000 Viratges, Rally Emporda-Angles, and Rally Cales de Palafrugell among others. It features a modified engine with dual Weber carburetors as well as a locking differential, a full roll cage, chassis reinforcements, competition shocks, and a lightweight interior with Sparco bucket seats and a vintage Moto-Lita steering wheel. This 2002tii was imported to Miami where it was acquired by the seller and subsequently overhauled with a new engine wiring harness, spark plugs, distributor cap, hoses, a radiator overflow tank, igniter, battery, tires, and more. This street-legal and road-registered 2002tii rally car is now being offered for auction by its seller out of California.
This BMW was factory-finished in Colorado Orange and was repainted in the current two-tone silver and orange combination during the late 2000s. Modifications include a front and rear bumper delete, front-mounted rally lights, hood and trunk lid pins, dual mirrors, and 13” Braid Classic three-piece wheels. The seller notes that new tires have been installed and a few small chips and scuffs are present in the paint. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.
Inside, this 2002tii features a stripped racing interior with a full bolt-in roll cage, Sparco bucket seats, 5-point safety harnesses, lightweight door panels, a rear seat delete, a vintage three-spoke Moto-Lita steering wheel, and a custom switch panel with easy-access fuses. The seller notes that new fire extinguishers were also mounted in quick-release brackets. All gauges remain fully functional.
Power comes from a 2.0-liter M10 inline-four engine with dual Weber 45 DCOE carburetors. The rear wheels are driven through a 5-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. The car has been modified with chassis reinforcements, competition shocks, an oil cooler, an electric fan conversion, and a vertically mounted hydraulic handbrake. Under current ownership, it was also refreshed a new engine wiring harness, spark plugs, ignition wires, hoses, a catch can, radiator overflow tank, distributor cap, igniter, and battery. The seller adds that the engine was refreshed prior to their purchase including removal and inspection of the head.
This sale will include a toolkit, a spare tire, and a clean title. The seller adds that this car is street-legal and currently registered with a California license plate.
The seller would like you to know: “Thank you for viewing my auction. Sad to see this go. I have enjoyed this car for several years and it's been a ton of fun! It gets a lot of attention wherever it’s driven. I have gone through and serviced the car changing all the fluids, plugs, wires, and installed a brand-new set of tires to ensure it is ready to go for its new owner! Please feel free to reach out with any questions.”

If the cage is bolted on, what are the welds for in 127? They don't seem to be done too well...
