@Benjamin - USMCA agreement applies to vehicles produced in Canada and Mexico, not vehicles produced in Germany. The country of manufacture dictates which tariffs apply. My intention is not to argue with you and I am not a customs broker, but I import and export vehicles on a weekly basis and am working based on information from two separate vehicle-specialized import brokers who both insist tariffs apply (hence my earlier question asking if you had a specific broker advising in the contrary, because I'd love to chat with them if theres an alternative). If you are confident enough in your sources to offer to cover any tariff/duty costs above and beyond the standard 2.5% for a buyer who intends to import to the US, should they apply, I think you will see much stronger bids south of the border. I would LOVE to be proven wrong because it would be infinitely helpful for my business.

As for MSRP, the MSRP is in CAD if this is a Canadian delivered vehicle. However, its important to consider that taking a straight exchange from 170cdn to usd would equal ~120s USD, which would NOT have been the original MSRP on the car if it were sold new to the US market (an identical US-delivered 991.1TGTS was probably in the 140s, MAYBE touching 150s usd in 2016 in this spec). Canada is one of the least expensive new markets to purchase a Porsche and therefore exchange alone will not provide an accurate comp to a US-delivered US-MSRP vehicle.

  • Benjamin (seller) 3 days, 5 hoursago

@rbrunson No worries, further to my comment to add another layer of confidence on tariffs, if necessary I can also drive the vehicle to the order crossing at Sweet Grass, MT and import the vehicle as a personal vehicle as my permanent residence is in California. However that shouldn’t be necessary.

  • rbrunson (registered bidder) 3 days, 5 hoursago

Sorry I just saw your comment.

  • rbrunson (registered bidder) 3 days, 5 hoursago

Would the recent 25% import tariff now apply to this sale if the car was brought into the US?

  • Benjamin (seller) 3 days, 5 hoursago

@Jarod964 Thank you for your comments, through my research online as well as speaking with the local Porsche dealer as well as my companies customs broker, there are no tariffs on "used" vehicles which is also part of the USMC agreement. I work for a manufacturing company with facilities on both sides of the border and this also tracks with our understanding. That being said, there is still the 2.5% fee to import any vehicle.

Additionally, I'd looked up some similarly optioned vehicles and the MSRP and when adding up the options the MSRP would be somewhere around $160K USD. Base price was $132,800 plus $25K in options.

  • Yugofirst (registered bidder) 3 days, 5 hoursago

Base price for a 2016 Targa GTS in the US was $132,800.Based upon the options on this one it would appear the MSRP would be in CAD not USD.

  • Benjamin (seller) 3 days, 6 hoursago

@Marketwatcher The car has definitely never been smoked in.

  • Jarod964 (registered bidder) 3 days, 7 hoursago

If the MSRP is $170k it will definitively be in CAD $, not USD. US import tariffs are absolutely applicable on used cars produced outside of the US (including Germany), for now at least.

  • Bulletproofauto (registered bidder) 3 days, 7 hoursago

@Marketwatcher the sellers opening paragraph indicated the previous owner was a manager at the local Porsche dealership.

  • Marketwatcher (registered bidder) 3 days, 7 hoursago

Are you the original owner? CARFAX doesn’t list multiple owners but the detailed info indicates new owner reported a few times.

@seller stunning looking car. I'm pretty sure that MSRP is in Canadian Dollars. Vinanalytics uses CDN dollars for Canadian cars. Have you confirmed through a customs broker that there is no tariffs on used cars? I'm getting conflicting information on used cars less than 25 years old.

  • Benjamin (seller) 1 weekago

@Jarod964 No I have not gotten one.

  • Benjamin (seller) 1 weekago

@zanskar The MSRP was $170,155 in USD. I don’t have access to the original window sticker, however vinanalytics will give you the same information.

  • zanskar (registered bidder) 1 weekago

@ Benjamin, Can you please post the original window sticker? Also please clarify if the original price was $170K CAD and not $USD.

@Seller - realized I misread one of your comments regarding letter of compliance, curious, have you already obtained one? Not a biggie either way.

  • Jarod964 (registered bidder) 1 weekago

@Seller - which import broker is suggesting to you that used vehicles are not subject to additional US tariffs and that a letter of compliance wont be needed? That is generally the case on vehicles over 25 years old, but not all used cars.

  • Benjamin (seller) 1 weekago

@DRVOFI Yes both extended warranties are valid in the US. I purchased them directly from the VW/Porsche dealer, you simply go to any Porsche dealer just like you normally would for any warranty work. I ensured that before purchasing as we live in the US and Canada.

  • DRVOFI (registered bidder) 1 weekago

I believe changing the K's to Miles is an easy change on the dashboard....are the AutoRev / Diamond -Kote warranties valid in the US...I am not familiar with them.

  • exert 1 week, 1 dayago

You should not have to change out the instrument cluster, since in my experience it's fine if there is a digital readout of mph and mileage (which can just be changed in the settings). I brought my old 997.2 4 GTS from the US to Canada, and my 991.2 GTS from Canada to the US. You do need a recall clearance letter to show there are no open recalls. If you're worried about it, I also highly recommend just getting an experienced cross-border transportation company such as TFX to do it for you.

  • zanskar (registered bidder) 1 week, 1 dayago

@exert or other, aren't there modifications that will be required prior to the car entering the US. I'm a novice on the matter but I seem to remember something about the speedometer and perhaps tachometer need to be switched out to comply with US. miles display requirements? If do you happen to what is entailed and at what approximate time and cost?

  • exert 1 week, 1 dayago

Very nice Targa. There were fewer than 400 991.1 GTS Targa models produced for North America (it was only available for a single model year). Normally I prefer manual cars, but I think the PDK is better than the 7-speed manual in the 991.1.

I also second the comments about it being pretty straightforward to import the car to the US. I've done it both ways, and while I used TFX, who handled most of the logistics, it's easy enough to do it by yourself and drive the car across the border.

  • Benjamin (seller) 1 week, 2 daysago

    @Yugofirst Correct.

  • Yugofirst (registered bidder) 1 week, 2 daysago

The odometer reading must be in km,not miles surely.

  • Benjamin (seller) 1 week, 2 daysago

@zanskar The auto tariffs are not applicable to used vehicles and the process to import is actually quite simple, particularly for newer vehicles such as this. You can have a broker do it for you or you can do it yourself and drive the vehicle across the border. When you get to the border, you simply alert them that you are importing the vehicle, show them the current registration, proof of US insurance, bill of sale, DOT Form H7 and EPA Form 3520-1. You'll pay an import duty of 2.5% of the purchase price of the vehicle then, the entire process takes about an hour at the border. Alberta and Canada in general is beautiful this time of year, I'd encourage a road trip. Hit BANFF while you are at it.

  • zanskar (registered bidder) 1 week, 2 daysago

@Benjamin or anyone else, while I know importing a vehicle into the US from Canada will incur standard duties, do you know if the new 25% auto tariffs will be applied to used vehicles?

  • kd123192 1 week, 2 daysago

Need to understand process when buying outside the U.S. please

  • Cbb (registered bidder) 1 week, 2 daysago

Great car. Future classic. The sound of the N/A GTS is pure pleasure. Good luck with the sale!

  • Benjamin (seller) 1 week, 3 daysago

    Greetings~

Thank you for visiting my Auction, I've been a PCA member for 15 years and owned many Porsches over the years. Targa's in particular hold a special place for me as my parents owned one when I was a child and this Targa very much embodies that original unique design aesthetic. This vehicle has been stored only in a climate controlled garage and all service is up to date from local Porsche factory dealership. There have been no modifications to the vehicle and the previous owner was the general manager of a Porsche dealership.

Please reach out if you have any questions whatsoever!

    Cheers,

    Benjamin
