A high-performance track-oriented version of the 981-generation Porsche Cayman, the original GT4 was introduced for the 2016 model year featuring a naturally aspirated 3.8-liter engine borrowed from the Carrera S along with a fixed rear wing, lowered PASM sport suspension, GT3-derived brakes, a 6-speed manual transmission, and a limited-slip differential with Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV). This example is finished in Sapphire Blue Metallic over a Black partial leather and Alcantara interior with deviated Platinum Grey stitching. It was sold new from Porsche South Bay in Southern California and was purchased as a Certified Pre-Owned vehicle from Porsche North Scottdale in June 2021. Recently serviced and with approximately 22k miles showing on the odometer, this GT4 is now being offered for auction out of California.
Compared to a standard 981 Cayman, the GT4 version features a front bumper with larger radiator grilles and an upper radiator vent, a front splitter, side air scoops, and a fixed rear wing. This example is finished in Sapphire Blue Metallic and features optional wing supports and bi-xenon headlights in black. It rides on factory 20” GT4 wheels in satin black that were mounted with new Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires by Porsche North Scottsdale in 2021. The seller describes the car to be in excellent overall condition apart from minor imperfections including some scuffs on the underside of the front splitter, light chips on the front end, a small touch-up on the edge of the driver’s door, and light road-going wear on the rear wheel wells. The exterior also benefits from a layer of ceramic coating. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.
Inside, this GT4 is appointed with Black partial leather and Alcantara upholstery complemented by deviated Platinum Grey stitching and brushed aluminum trim. Accessories include a steering wheel and gear knob in black leather, automatic climate control, automatically dimming mirrors with an integrated rain sensor, a sound system, and Porsche Communication Management (PC) with navigation. The seller notes an aftermarket hardwired radar detector has been installed.
Borrowed from the contemporary 911 Carrera S, the GT4 is equipped with a naturally aspirated 3.8-liter flat-six engine that delivers up to 385 HP and 309 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels through a 6-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential with Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV). Maintenance performed by Porsche North Scottsdale in 2021 included a 40k-mile service with a full brake system flush, new spark plugs, air filters, and more. The car was most recently serviced in preparation for sale and passed a California smog test in March 2024.
This sale will include owner’s manuals and a clean title (lien).
The seller would like you to know: “This is an absolutely spectacular car in excellent condition throughout. There is a financing payoff to be made so please account for that when bidding - ie, please have your financing in order come time to transact. This car has been lovingly cared for & properly driven by its highly affectionate owner. The owner is selling only due to moving abroad for a highly important job relocation. Otherwise, there would be zero chance of ever selling the car. The car receives compliments wherever it goes. This color is brilliant! The sounds this car makes gets your adrenaline pumping. There Is No Substitute!”

Flyboi wasn’t going to bid and he went out of his way to make sure nobody else did either. No doubt he’s smug happy.
What happened? I thought seller said someone’s getting a beautiful and excellently maintained GT4 today. I assumed reserve was hit by that comment.
The internet blows overrevs way out of proportion lol. It has been 700 hours since the overrev. The motor is fine. Relaxxxx lol
OK Porsche Fans! We've reached the final countdown. A nice file of service records accompany this Porsche.
Someone is getting a beautiful & excellently maintained GT4 TODAY!!!
@ElisMotorcars @torreypinesdriver
The stage four and five over-revs are something that concerns Porsche enough that they would not offer a CPO on the car if it was still under warranty. This coming from my Porsche dealership gold star mechanic…
Having said that, as much as I love everything about this vehicle, I will not be bidding on it. If my comments offend anyone on this forum, please do feel free to delete. ✌🏻
@FlyBoi - Of what, exactly? That 4 of the biggest Porsche shops in the greater San Diego area & Porsche North Scottsdale missed something? 700 operating hours, inspections & services since…. What should we be looking for or very concerned with?
Good morning-
First, let me say that this is, indeed, a beautiful car, and one that anyone who appreciates Porsches’ continuing dedication to producing track-worthy vehicles should be proud to own.
Having said that…
From the limited research I’ve done, stage four, five, and six over-rev events are most definitely something one should be concerned with, even on the higher revving GT4 3.8 motor. You say your mechanic isn’t worried about the stage four over-revs, perhaps the stage five over-rev event shown on the report would cause him concern?
Personally, I’d be very concerned…
One more sleep until this lovely GT4 finds its next caretaker! I’m still available to answer any further questions anyone may have. Thank you to those who have taken the time to make contact. Now, let’s bring it home.
2 Day Notice
Nice example of driver-focused 981 GT4. Sapphire Blue is sweet enough to have been a PTS color, so that is a plus for sure. Any reason why the second owner only had it for a month?

@SSTwin - that was the Colorado dealership. Thanks for the kind words 👍

While for some reason production #'s aren't available from Porsche, the 981 GT4 was none-the-less a one year only build as 981 production was winding down. Estimates vary, but I've read more than once that less than 2,000 were made with about 1,000 coming into the North American market. That seems to make sense, so I vanity tagged mine "1 of 1000". I've also read less than 600 are currently registered in the UK and EU countries. I don't know if we will ever know for certain, but one thing is certain, the 981 GT4 is a Great One Year Only First and certainly quite rare in comparison to the 718 GT4.

ok got it. thanks!
@jazzyg72 - Yes. If you’d like to message me privately to arrange a viewing, please use the Contact Seller icon above. Thank you.
Ok thank you. Is the car located somewhere that it would be convenient for me to view during normal business hours?
@jazzyg72 - Porsche officially recalled the gearboxes on GT4s that were built with the welded 3rd gear rather than the original splined version. I’ll work on some undercarriage photos.
@Tmort - Yes. As shown on the attached carfax in the photo gallery. 4/26/2019. Thanks
Do you have any information regarding the transmission replacement in 2019? Do you have the window sticker? Can we see some pics under the car on a lift?

@RKW - Rev Report Posted. Words from my Porsche tech - “Over 700 hours on the motor since the last range 4 over rev, I'd have no problem with it. Looks fine to me, unfortunately not perfect but nothing to worry of.”

@RKW Absolutely. Understood.

@RKW Thanks for asking. I knew that would be one of the first questions asked. I am working on generating that as we speak. Ill provide the report tonight or tomorrow.
