Unveiled at the 2009 Frankfurt Auto Show and largely based on 997.2 GT3 RS, the 997.2 GT3 Cup is a track-only model featuring a naturally-aspirated 3.8L engine producing 444 HP, a 1.7” wider rear end, a rear wing derived from the 911 GT3 Cup S, a lower front splitter, LED tail lights, a modified racing exhaust system, model-specific lightweight wheels, additional monoball joints on the control arms, front and rear 7-way adjustable sway bars, a vented hood, and a steering wheel-mounted information display. This 2012 example was said to have raced in the English GT3 Cup competition and wears a chrome wrap with blue and red accents over the original white finish. Having 116.7 total hours on the engine with 64 hours driven since the rebuild and only 5 hours on the comprehensively rebuilt transmission, this 997.2 GT3 Cup is now being offered at auction by the seller based out of Connecticut.

This 997.2 GT3 Cup sports a chrome wrap with a blue and red livery, and sponsorship logos over the original Carrera White finish. Equipment includes a carbon fiber-reinforced plastic engine lid, doors, aerodynamic mirrors, a vented hood with hood pins, a through-hood fuel filler, a center-exit exhaust, and a high rear wing as standard. Detailed images showing the condition of the exterior are provided in the gallery. The 18” center-locking BBS E88 wheels are mounted with Pirelli P Zero slicks, and an additional set of wheels is said to accompany the sale.

The motorsport-prepped cockpit features a Sparco P1300 seat and mount, a full roll cage with cross-braces and door bars, a full-vehicle fire suppression system, carbon fiber door panels with pull straps, a Cool Shirt box, a center panel with buttons for lighting, fuel pumps, fans, and fire suppression, a suede OMP steering wheel with a quick disconnect hub, a tall shifter with a hydraulic handbrake, a  Motec digital instrument cluster,  OMP LED shift lights, and a steering-wheel mounted digital information display. The seller notes some minor handprints on the OMP suede steering wheel.

This Cup Car is powered by a naturally aspirated 3.8 L flat-six engine derived from the roadgoing GT3 RS.  444 HP is delivered to the rear wheels by way of a Hollinger sequential 6-speed gearbox. Performance features include an Alpine Racing Cup suspension with additional monoball joints on the control arms, front and rear 7-way adjustable sway bars, Super Cup exhaust pipes, a Bosch-Porsche ECU, and composite cast disc brakes with Bosch racing ABS. The seller notes that the ABS is currently turned off. The car has received new fuel pumps and a cell service at 100 hours as well as a rebuilt breaking system at 85 hours. This 911 is said to have been well maintained, always receiving proper maintinance.

This vehicle will be sold on a bill of sale.

@HK_Motorcars Any backup on the engine rebuild?

@orangebox the transmission was done by Gold Crest Motor Sports.

  • orangebox (registered bidder) 2 years, 3 monthsago

Any more clarity on what was done to the gearbox, and by whom? If it was done by someone like Bill Rader, PMNA, or other reputable shops you’d be leaving a great deal of money on the table.

Looks like the motor was refreshed at roughly 52 hours. Can you provide information regarding who did the work, what was done and documentation showing the work? Any documentation regarding who did the last refresh on the transmission?

The description has been updated to reflect that the vehicle is being sold on a bill of sale since most race cars do not have a title. We apologize for the inconvenience to the seller and bidders.

@HK_Motorcars You will see my bid. I just wanted to prevent confusion that I’ve seen in other similar auctions.

  • HK_Motorcars (seller) 2 years, 4 monthsago

@Travist to be clear. This site is mostly for street cars. The form they use requires you to click an option. It clearly a race car and not a street car. No leans. No title issues. No bank loans. Are you interested in the car or just commenting for fun?

  • Travist (registered bidder) 2 years, 4 monthsago

The “ This sale will include a clean title.” can be misleading, as these do not have titles and are not street legal.

  • HK_Motorcars (seller) 2 years, 4 monthsago

@shutupanddrive we have not had issues getting parts. The car has been serviced at Speed Sport in Danbury, CT

  • HK_Motorcars (seller) 2 years, 4 monthsago

@uscarrera you are correct. That is just how the site is set up. Meaning no leans etc.

  • uscarrera (registered bidder) 2 years, 4 monthsago

Can you explain what type of “ clean title” will come with car? It is my understanding factory Porsche race cars have no state titles.
    Thanks

How difficult is it to get parts when you need it? Is it like the 996 cup?
