Up for auction is this incredibly rare 2012 997 Turbo S “918 Spyder Edition”.  The model was originally offered to 918 Spyder customers as an exclusive option.  Instantly recognizable by its Acid Green accents, each car is numbered and corresponds with the 918 Spyder that the owner had ordered alongside of it.  As previously listed on PCARMARKET and driven under 10 miles since, this Turbo S is being offered in excellent condition out of a collection in Georgia with only 11k on the odometer.

The all original black paint on this Turbo S is flawless and shines brilliantly.  The seller also notes that this car has a ceramic coating, allowing for effortless maintenance of the paint.  Eye-catching Acid Green model designations and brake calipers help set this car apart from standard variations.  This Turbo also highlights an exclusive carbon fiber package, only found elsewhere on the Porsche GT2.  This 997 rides on original black painted 19” RS Spyder center-lock wheels that are  in excellent condition.  The seller notes that the car has always been kept in a climate controlled environment.

As can be expected, the full black leather interior is in excellent condition.  Acid Green accented stitching helps to complete the unique and sporty nature of this Turbo.  With an MSRP of $168,085 this Turbo showcases many desirable options such as:

  • Heated Seats
  • Park Assist System
  • SiriusXM(TM) Sat Radio Tuner
  • PCM Package in Leather
  • Steering Column Casing Leather
  • Inner Sill Finishers Leather
  • Footrest in Sport Look
  • Fuel Tank Cap in Aluminum Look
  • Interior Light Cover in Leather

This like-new interior is entirely unmodified and all electrical systems and accessories are in perfect working order.

Accelerating from 0-60 in just 2.8 seconds and achieving top speeds of over 195mph, the 997 Turbo S remains one of the fastest cars in the Porsche lineup.  Its twin-turbo 3.8L flat-six engine produces a whopping 530HP and is paired to a 7-speed PDK transmission, sending power to all four wheels. Stopping power comes from PCCB (Carbon Ceramic Composite Brakes), a highly desirable option among Porsche models. This Turbo S has been cared after diligently, always receiving timely maintenance and scheduled services.  With just over 11k miles from new, this Turbo S will satisfy even the most discerning collector.

The sale of this very special 997 will include a clean Carfax, all original documentation, books, keys, original window sticker, and Porsche Certificate of Authenticity.  With only 78 total coupes ever produced, this is an exceedingly rare opportunity to own a very unique and highly collectible 997 Turbo S.

@Melaniegolf The seller is unable to post at this time. He just informed us that a synthetic oil service was performed this month at a cost of approximately $500.00. The record will be included with the sale.

I thought you were going to post the August 2020 service records.

@Trappistmonk Hello, this is an excellent question and we are glad that you asked it. The criteria for relisting a car would be a period of approximately six months and/or a considerably lower reserve price. This car meets that criteria. Hope this response was helpful and if you’re planning on bidding, best of luck.

So how often can a car be offered here? Same car went to auction and to dealtank (no sale at $143k) and now back at auction.

@Egamble3 , I have the original Window sticker, both keys, Porsche COA, All Original Books and Manuals. I also have the service records since I have owned the car. It has always been serviced at Porsche.

  • Egamble3 (registered bidder) 4 years, 2 monthsago

The car appears to be in the condition that an 11k mile car should be. However, the description only mentions all documentation is included. What original documents are included? How detailed are the service records?

  • AutoXperts (seller) 4 years, 2 monthsago

@33saratoga , it just had its annual Oil service before it was advertised.

When was the last time the car was service ?

  • VFPorsche (registered bidder) 4 years, 3 monthsago

I tried to.buy this car the last time it was listed but was unsuccessful. I also tried to buy one at Mecum Monterey a few years back. Did not get either one. Did my homework on them before hand.

Another common misconception is that the number on the plate ( this case 102 ) is the 102 unit produced. This is not the case. 918 Edition Turbo S plate numbers match the original owners 918 number. Also, when you purchased a 918 you got to choose your number. There were a total of 918 produced. You could have chosen #356 and been the 100th unit produced. This was to guarantee to purchasers that there would only be 918 units made. Ferrari used to say they were only going to make a certain number of cars and when demand went up the would continue production until demand stopped. This process was put into place to guarantee exclusivity to purchasers.
I know some of this because I went to Stuttgart and toured the production line of the 918 and also saw one of these 918 Turbo S models while there. They are amazingly beautiful cars. All the carbon fiber from the GT2 comes on these cars. The only 911 ever made with green calipers. GLWTA

@kjkaley The numbers stated by AutoXpert is correct. Very few 918 owners took advantage of this offering because it was only available to the first 918 purchasers. Once 997 production was over this option was no longer available. That happened early in the 918 production process. I know this for a fact because I went to Stuttgart and toured the 918 production line. The 918 edition Turbo S is the rarest Porsche made since the turbo 3.6

  • AutoXperts (seller) 4 years, 3 monthsago

@kjkaley , the numbers stated are correct. It was only offered as an "option" to the early 918 Spyder buyers for two reasons. First, it was going to take several years to complete the 918 so it would "tie" the buyers over until delivery. Second, they had left over 997 Chassis remaining as 991's were staring production.

  • AutoXperts (seller) 4 years, 3 monthsago

@kjkaley , 78 Coupes were built worldwide. There are believed to be less than 40 in US.

  • kjkaley (registered bidder) 4 years, 3 monthsago

@mid6flite cute... but in all seriousness, research I have done says all 918 owners took advantage of the option to buy this 911. I find that hard to believe. Let's say 50% did - that means 409 911s rolled off. So we have 78 coupes and 331 Cabriolets? That i also find hard to believe.

  • mid6flite (registered bidder) 4 years, 3 monthsago

    @kjkaley I’d say between 73-78 were made.
??? that’s pretty close enough don’t you think.

  • kjkaley (registered bidder) 4 years, 3 monthsago

Do we know how many were built? A previous auction here said 1 of 73 coupes, this auction says 1 of 78 and another auction site had a comment of less than 75 (coupes). All 3 VINs were different. This is a beautiful car. Good Luck.
