This 2005 Porsche 996 GT3 is finished in Black over a matching leather interior and is equipped with a naturally aspirated 3.6-liter Mezger flat-six engine paired with a 6-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. It was purchased by the seller in 2019 and modified with an upgraded IPD intake plenum, a Fabspeed exhaust, a Softronic ECU tune, solid motor mounts, custom GBox gear ratios, a single-mass flywheel, Moton adjustable coilovers, an Auto-Blip module, an aftermarket RS-style rear wing, a front splitter, Recaro bucket seats, a roll bar, and Rennline track mats. Fortified with welded coolant pipes in preparation for sale, this GT3 is now being offered for auction out of Pennsylvania with approximately 76k miles showing on the odometer.

This GT3 is finished in Black with contrasting silver mirror caps, an aftermarket front splitter, and a carbon fiber GT3 RS-style rear wing with contrasting silver endplates. Other equipment includes fog lights, clear side marker lenses, rocker panel flares, dual exhaust outlets, red brake calipers, and silver 18” GT3 wheels with colored Porshe crest center caps. An additional set of OEM 18” wheels is included in the sale. Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires were mounted about 3 years ago and the windshield was replaced in preparation for the sale. The seller indicates the car was subjected to some track use and slight imperfections are present on the hood and rear bumper. A paint chip is noted on the fuel filler lid and a paint is pictured on the hood. The seller adds that the front bumper was recently refinished along with a full exterior paint correction, and a ceramic coating has been applied to the hood, front bumper, and roof. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

The interior features a pair of Recaro bucket seats trimmed in black leather with contrasting grey Alcantara centers. Accessories include a three-spoke leather steering wheel, a body-colored center console, GT3-logo door sills, a half-cage roll bar, a fire extinguisher, an Auto-Blip module, LED shift indicator lights, Rennline track mats, Rennline pedal covers, and Rennline drilled aluminum floorboards. The car is also equipped with power windows, automatic climate control, cruise control, and a Porsche CDR23 stereo.

Factory-rated at 380 HP and 284 lb.-ft of torque, the naturally aspirated 3.6-liter Mezger flat-six engine sends power to the rear wheels through a 6-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. The engine has been modified with an IPD Competition intake plenum and throttle body, a Fabspeed exhaust system, a Softronic ECU tune, and solid motor mounts. The gearbox has been modified with taller gear ratios and a single-mass OEM flywheel. Aftermarket GiroDisc 2-piece rotors were installed within the last 1k miles and the suspension has been upgraded with Moton 2-way adjustable coilovers featuring remote reservoirs, adjustable front control arms, adjustable toe links, and Tarett camber plates. The seller adds that the coolant pipes have been welded in preparation for sale and a gearbox service was completed within the last 5k miles including a new clutch.

This sale will include an additional set of OEM 18” wheels, owner’s manuals, and a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “This car is a track rocket.  Very few 996.2 GT3 cars have this level of thoughtful performance modifications. A Softronic tune brings almost 400HP.  Fully adjustable Moton shocks allow full track performance customization.   A true driver's car.   The Fabspeed exhaust sounds amazing.”

@hildog. Thanks for the quick response and insights. Very informative. Great night runner.

  • hildog (seller) 1 month, 4 weeksago

@JLHBLDRS Good questions. Nicely behaved is how I would describe it. Interior noise is modest, absolutely no rattles at all, the soundproofing is intact. Only the sound of the lovely Fabspeed exhaust. If some wished, they could reset the alignment to a street alignment, I've set to max camber. Not edgy at all. The Moton's allow alot of adjustment on compression and rebound as you probably know. However, the ride is harder on the street than a street-only suspension set up. Pads need very little warm up, and do not squeak when cold. Very happy with Ferodo pads.

  • JLHBLDRS (registered bidder) 1 month, 4 weeksago

Having owned and raced dedicated race cars, how is this GT3's street manners? Is it 'edgey' and nervous, with loud interior noises (rattles)? Do you need to warm up the brake pads prior to functioning? I know you have adjustable struts, just trying to ascertain if this is more a track car and less a street car. When modifying, there's always trade-offs. It is a great looking GT3.

  • hildog (seller) 1 month, 4 weeksago

@hildog Note on the extra pads - including used Pagids for spare, not Hawk

  • hildog (seller) 1 month, 4 weeksago

@djbrand Motons were installed by prior owner at 57k miles, so about 20k on them. Not rebuilt under my ownership. No leakdown/compression testing done under my ownership.

  • djbrand (registered bidder) 1 month, 4 weeksago

Any idea on when the last rebuild on the Motons was done? Any recent leakdown/compression numbers?

  • hildog (seller) 1 month, 4 weeksago

Good morning bidders, this is not a car you see everyday, it's been lovingly cared for by me for the last 5 years. All service records from my ownership are included, as well as from prior ownership. All the major mechanicals were serviced in the last several thousand miles including a new windshield, welding the coolant pipes this summer, a new thermostat and water pump, new clutch, refreshed synchros, new coils and plugs, new serpentine belt, recent wheel alignment, new coolant and brake fluid reservoir, regular oil and brake fluid changes, new Gyrodisc rotors front and back, fresh Ferodo 3.12 pads (also including a set of Hawk street pads if you prefer them), a Softronic tune (reversible if you want) new battery, and an extra set of OEM wheels. It also has an IPD plenum and GT3 throttle body, solid motor mounts, new GT3 Rennline lower control arms (left and right).

  • hildog (seller) 1 month, 4 weeksago

Range I hits = 65,535. the mileage when the report was run was 69,625. a photo of the report should be posted shortly. at the rev limit of this car, that equates to 8.4 minutes over a period of 19 years. This should not concern anyone. Only Range III or higher are of concern. Range II equates to 40 seconds over 19 years as well

  • Blubusdrvr (registered bidder) 1 month, 4 weeksago

Is that 65k hits in range 1 or an estimate of the mileage the last range 1 occurred?

  • hildog (seller) 2 monthsago

    Range I: 65,535, Range II: 3,095

  • hildog (seller) 2 monthsago

@hildog A DME report at 69,625 miles has been posted (about 5k miles ago). it shows Range I and Range II events but nothing higher.

  • hildog (seller) 2 monthsago

@Mike_GT3RS I don't have the original cats, the upgrade was done prior to my ownership. However, I will check tomorrow to see what cats are in there now. the exhaust system is the Fabspeed Porsche 996 GT3 Maxflo Performance Exhaust System, which was installed in 2020.

  • hildog (seller) 2 monthsago

@Mike_GT3RS I will post a DME report tomorrow morning, it was done in 2023. No paint readings. The front bumper was resprayed in prep for this sale. The paint is in great shape except for the chips I've shown in the pictures. I believe the frunk was repainted prior to my ownership.

  • Mike_GT3RS (registered bidder) 2 monthsago

Do you happen to have the stock cats? I am asking because I am in CommieFornia

  • Mike_GT3RS (registered bidder) 2 monthsago

Do you happen to have a DME report and paint meter reading? Any signs of previous paint or body repair?

  • hildog (seller) 2 monthsago

@flatcrank Thank you flatcrank for the comment and kind words. I've found this to be a perfect balance of modifications to the gearbox and suspension. Most DE instructors who drive with me are envious of the setup!

For all you gearbox geeks, I have added photos of the invoices from the original modification, my refresh, and the clutch and associated parts replacement done about 5k miles ago. Also a list of all the mods (some replace/removed prior to my ownership) by the previous owners. Lastly photos of the 18" track wheels (OEM) I am including

@vvspeedy30 I assume "taller" actually means "close ratio" so just 1st gear is taller, maybe 2nd gear, 3rd I think is direct and 4th and 5th could be actually be brought down (the usable performance above about 150 mph is not much for a street car with 300 hp to the ground) and the joy of the 996 GT3 is all in the handling on the limit at 50 to 130 mph. The gearbox is designed have the ratios changed, but the components are expensive (everything about the Mezger is expensive thanks to Porsche Classic these days.) There's been just about everything done to this one short of lightweighting (replacing the glass and steel panels) which would be a one way trip to the track. This one probably still rides quite comfortably on the road. I haven't used Moton, we always used Ohlins or KW (I think Manthey uses KW with a modern double adjustable body) but everything I see on this GT3 looks like a wealthy owner track addict. : )

@Orioles128 For track inspections before DE events, I take the car to a Porsche dealer outside of Philadelphia. I do 5-6 track events a season and each inspection shows up as a service record. Some records are for standard recommended maintenance services , but most are for track inspections.

  • Orioles128 (registered bidder) 2 monthsago

Is there a reason why the carfax reports that its been in service so many time in the last few years? For example 2 times in March 2024.

  • hildog (seller) 2 monthsago

@Mercyhealth I put new rotors on last season, Gyrodiscs are great. With the Ferodo pads the stopping power is amazing. No fade at all

  • Mercyhealth (registered bidder) 2 monthsago

    Love the slotted disc brakes

  • hildog (seller) 2 monthsago

@vvspeedy30 the modification to the transmission was done by the prior owner. it certainly sets up well for longer tracks.

  • vvspeedy30 (registered bidder) 2 monthsago

After selling my touring a few months back, I have been itching for a more raw 911 experience. While I do want to go air cooled, I want to experience a 996 gt3 before that. This seems like a great setup car. One possible dumb question is modified “taller” gear ratios, curious about the decision on that. I feel these cars are already pretty tall in their gearing, and more top speed isn’t really advantageous on a track day car

  • hildog (seller) 2 monthsago

@smsarchitects no original parts left. I am including a set of OEM 18' silver wheels as well, I will post pictures of them on Monday. (Track wheels for the R7s that belong on this car!)

  • hildog (seller) 2 monthsago

@MaikoR yes, see my comment above

  • hildog (seller) 2 monthsago

Yes, this car is meant to be tracked and I've used it primarily for that purpose. 80% track use during my ownership, I can't speak for the prior owners. I bought it through an intermediary so I have only the service records to use as a guide.

  • smsarchitects (registered bidder) 2 monthsago

@MaikoR : “This car is a track rocket. Very few 996.2 GT3 cars have this level of thoughtful performance modifications. A Softronic tune brings almost 400HP. Fully adjustable Moton shocks allow full track performance customization.“

  • smsarchitects (registered bidder) 2 monthsago

Gorgeous car and reminds me of my 996 GT3 track weapon of days gone by. Do you have any or all of the original parts?

  • MaikoR (registered bidder) 2 monthsago

    Has this been tracked?

  • hildog (seller) 2 monthsago

Good morning everyone! I'm offering my well-cared for 996.2 GT3 to a new buyer who will enjoy it's special capabilities for years to come. Selling only because I have moved to at GT4 for DE. The Moton shocks are amazing, allowing you to dial just the type of suspension response for whatever situation you find your self in - on track or around town. The seats are very comfortable and in great shape as the pictures show. I've had this car since 2019, always garage kept. All service records are available from my ownership and I have most if not all from prior ownership. Some major recent service, mentioned below include ignition coils, serpentine belt, coolant pipes replaced and welded, water pump, thermostat, and numerous other smaller parts replaced. One of the best recent items is new windshield installed this month. I will respond promptly to further questions. This is a very rare car and one that is primed for many more years giving driving pleasure to a P-car enthusiast.
