Representing the 3rd generation of BMW's legendary M5 sports sedan, the E39 is acknowledged as one of BMW’s greatest achievements. It boasts the revered S62 V8 engine, impressive performance capabilities, and a host of luxurious features within its understated bodywork. Finished in Black over matching Heritage leather upholstery, this 2002 example has been tastefully modified with several Dinan parts, European-specification headlights, a Dinan cold air intake, HPS silicone hoses, NGK spark plugs, a CSF radiator, ECS stainless steel brake lines, and KW V3 coilovers. This Dinan-certified E39 is now being offered for auction by its seller out of New York with just under 66k miles on the odometer.
The M5 is distinguished from the standard E39 5-Series model range by its aggressive front and rear bumper design, side skirts, rounded aerodynamic mirrors, trunk lid spoiler, and Shadowline trim. Additional features include xenon headlights with washers, fog lights, and M5 badging on the trunk lid and side moldings. This example is finished in Black and rides on 18” Style 65 wheels dressed in Michelin Pilot Sport tires. The seller adds that clear Euro-spec headlights have been fitted along with a new front grille with brake ducts, and a Slimmbones carbon fiber front splitter and rear diffuser. Additionally, a paint correction and ceramic coating are said to have been performed within the last 6 months.
The cabin is upholstered in Black Nappa Heritage leather with a matching Anthracite Alcantara headliner. Interior equipment includes power-adjustable and heated seats with memory, automatic climate control, a navigation system, an electric sunroof, and M5-badged door sills. Modifications include an AZA steering wheel with carbon fiber trim, additional interior carbon fiber trim, upgraded LED lighting, a leather M-branded illuminated shift knob, Dinan race pedals, and rubber floor mats.
The E39 M5 equips a 4.9-liter S62 V8 engine with double-VANOS variable valve timing, individual throttle bodies, hollow camshafts, and a quasi-dry-sump lubrication system. The S62 produced up to 394 HP and 369 lb.-ft of torque stock, allowing the M5 to reach 60 MPH from a standstill in as little as 4.8 seconds with an electronically governed top speed of 155 MPH. Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a Getrag 420G 6-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. The seller adds that new OEM brake pads have been installed, a brake fluid flush and coolant flush were performed, the rear differential was re-sealed as a preventative measure, and regular oil changes have been carried out. Additionally, the following performance upgrades have been installed:
This sale will include a clean title (lien), owner’s manuals, an air pump, and a battery charger.
The seller would like you to know: “This is a well-maintained, garage-kept example. All of the aftermarket parts have less than 1,500 miles on them, and the vehicle is qualified for a Dinan badge. The body is rust-free, and a paint correction and ceramic coating were done 6 months ago. A great Sunday driver!”

Sold for $45,000
$45,000 offer from Brighton, CO (80602)
I would consider a higher offer if I had further evaluation of the car. Your comments state that the Lemon Squad did your pre-purchase eval. The fastest way for me to further eval is to review that Lemon Squad report. Is it available?
Offer in the amount of $42,500
We bought a new 635CSi back in 1989 and immediately sent it to Steve Dinan for a Stage II turbo and a Stage 1 suspension upgrade. The results were incredible. Took the car to a three day Track Time event at MidOhio and after only one afternoon was asked to leave. The Porsche Club (who assisted Track Time's owner Jack Lane) was upset that I'd blow off their 930s going down the back straight. Then Mr Lane showed up with his new toy (a Consulier) and he too suffered the same fate. He could get by me in the corners but I'd have 6-7 lengths on him on the straights. Humiliated, he demanded I leave the event due to unsafe driving (as a national level Sports 2000 driver I was hardly unsafe). Steve Dinan definitely knows what he's doing.
@dspoljaric 100%. Have to imagine the reserve is quite high on this one.

Mileage is FAR too low to be worried about Timing Chain Guides. The S62 motors aren't nearly as problematic as the M62 engines when it comes to TCGs . This does look like a nice & clean M5 w/modest modificaitons. It will never be a DINAN plaqued car as Holley no longer offers that option since purchasing Dinan, but you can get the trunk lid badges (as the seller has done) by supplying your receipts and filling out the Dinan Deck Lid Badge form.
Are the headlights hella? Have the vanos solenoids o-rings been replaced? Has the chain tensioner and guides been replaced? Looks like a nice honest m5.

@DL22 How do we work that out? I know these auction sites are usually very difficult about sharing contact info
@jakearch9 I’m the owner you can absolutely come look at the car
I live in NJ, any chance I could come check the car out this weekend?

Bid in the amount of $11,000
Bid in the amount of $10,000
@DL22 for sure. Thanks, beautiful car
@adjmcloon you can also use a service called lemon squad if you like and they go over the car with a fine tooth comb.. it’s the same service I used before I purchased this vehicle
@adjmcloon pads are brand new I just purchased less than a month ago.. no leaks at all tires are at 75%.. clutch has never been replaced but is in perfect working condition
Are there any pre-purchase inspection reports available? Any leaks (oil, power steering)? Any information on clutch wear, tire tread, brakes, etc.? Thanks
@c1096306 The incorrect CARFAX has been removed, we apologize for any inconvenience.
Bid in the amount of $7,000
@c1096306 you have some reason this website hasn’t posted on there but if you cycle through all those papers mine is in there as well. I don’t know why they are showing you one from a Porsche.
@DL22 The Carfax you show for this M5 is actually for a 2006 Porsche 911. Can you post the correct Carfax please.
Bid in the amount of $5,000
@DL22 thanks for the detailed response. Cheers
@Intermeccanica majority of Dinan parts are from Dinan website the 2 other are from turner motor sport.. I just sent info to website to be updated.. and what I mean by Dinan certified is that it qualifies for Dinan badge with over 10pts in products I just never put on the badge. And as for your question about the thickness in paint I’m not completely sure I am the second owner and I have never repainted or replaced panel
Thanks for confirming that you have the receipts for the Dinan parts. Can you please confirm that they were purchased new at authorized dealers (vs eBay, etc). Also, please explain why the listing states this car is "Dinan-certified". Did you purchase it from a BMW dealer with a Dinan certification? Please share this info. Lastly, please explain the paint thickness difference for the front-right fender (almost 2x other panels). Was it replaced or repainted? Thanks.
@DL22 also you can also see majority of the parts in the pictures.. the only product not pictured is the ignition coils and short shifter.. but I do have receipts for those as well
@Intermeccanica no problem I have all receipts for all Dinan purchases
@seller To qualify for a Dinan badge, one must provide proof of purchase via copies of invoices from authorized dealers. Do you have all these invoices available? The auction listing makes no mention and I do not see copies posted in the photo gallery. The listing also states this car is "Dinan-certified". Please post any documentation you have to support this statement, thanks.
@Intermeccanica the last clip is broken.. I have an extra diffuser with sale
@seller What's the issue with the rear diffuser?
