Representing the 3rd generation of BMW's legendary M5 sports sedan, the E39 is commonly regarded as one of the greatest BMWs of all time showcasing the revered S62 V8 engine, impressive performance capabilities, and a host of luxurious features within its understated bodywork. This 2002 example is finished in Le Mans Blue Metallic over a Black Nappa leather interior and is equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission. Fresh from a recent paint correction and service and accompanied by extensive documentation, this M5 is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Utah showing just under 67k miles on the odometer.

This M5 is finished in Le Mans Blue Metallic and rides on 18” Style 65 wheels dressed in Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires from 2019. M5-specific details include Shadowline trim and revised bumpers, side skirts, trunk lid spoiler, aerodynamic mirrors, and quad exhaust outlets. Additional features include xenon headlights with washers, fog lights, and M5 badging on the trunk lid and side moldings. It is said to have undergone prior paintwork due to accidents and a Stage 3 paint was correction in May of 2023. The CARFAX report reflects accidents in April 2003, April 2018, and October 2018. The April 2018 damage report reflects damage in excess of $1k to the left rear and the October 2018 damage report reflects minor damage to the front. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.

The cabin is upholstered in Black Nappa leather with accenting wood trimming and an Anthracite Alcantara headliner. Interior details include M5-badged door sills, an M-branded gear shift lever, and an M Sport multifunction leather-wrapped steering wheel with amenities including power-adjustable and heated seats with memory, automatic climate control, a factory navigation system, and a sunroof. All gauges, electronics, and accessories are reported to be working properly.

This E39 M5 houses a 4.9-liter S62 V8 engine with double-VANOS variable valve timing, individual throttle bodies, hollow camshafts, and a quasi-dry-sump lubrication system. The S62 produced up to 394 HP and 369 lb.-ft of torque when new, and allowed the M5 to reach 60 MPH from a standstill in as little as 4.8 seconds with an electronically governed top speed of 155 MPH. Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a Getrag 420G 6-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. Compared to the standard 5-Series, the M5 also received revised spring rates, a lowered ride height, model-specific shock valving, thicker sway bars, Servotronic power steering, an upgraded clutch, heavy-duty rubber bushings, and upgraded front wheel bearings. The seller notes that the clutch was replaced in 2015 and that the vehicle received new power steering lines and an oil change in May 2023.

This sale will include a clean title, owner’s manuals, and extensive documentation.

The seller would like you to know: “This low mileage E39 M5 finished in the rare Le Mans Blue is in amazing condition inside and out. It is a showroom drivers car that runs and shifts smoothly and will make an amazing addition to any collection.”

@porscheklaus we don’t have any information as to the extent of the previous accidents. I can say that if you saw the car in person you would never guess it has any work done.

  • LUXE_Automotive_Sale (seller) 1 year, 4 monthsago

@jwriggins I assume you mean photo 78, that spot is under the hood. It’s not as much rust as it’s just the paint curled up.
It’s not from the photography. I wouldn’t say it looks like from water but not sure if that would be from aging either. It’s kind of a vein look/feel across it.

  • jwriggins (registered bidder) 1 year, 4 monthsago

    Very nice. Interested.
    Two questions:
    1) Where is the rust seen in photo 77?
    2) The leather in the bottom of the door panels on the driver's side appear to have been affected by water. Is that an artifact of photography?
    thank you

  • porscheklaus (registered bidder) 1 year, 4 monthsago

Lovely looking car and I am very much interested. As might anyone however, the reported accidents are a bit of a concern/deterent. If just parking lot incidents, then no worries but, just how severe were they in dollars and cents? Thanks.
