This 1997 Porsche 993 Targa is said to be one of just 567 U.S.-spec examples produced for the model year, offering a full glass sliding Targa roof that provides an open-air driving experience with the press of a button. Finished in Arctic Silver Metallic over Black upholstery, it features a Tiptronic automatic transmission, 17” 993 Targa wheels, and more. Showing approximately 72k kilometers or 45k miles on the odometer, this 993 is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Virginia.
The 993 Targa roof system includes a green-tinted laminated glass roof that can be slid beneath the rear window or covered with an electrically retractable sunshade. This example is finished in Arctic Silver Metallic and rides on 17” 993 Targa wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport tires. Detailed images are provided in the gallery, including paint meter readings and a clean CARFAX report.
Inside, the cabin presents Black leather upholstery. Equipment includes power-adjustable front seats, power windows & exterior mirrors, steering wheel-mounted Tiptronic buttons, and a Porsche CR-3 stereo. The Targa model came standard with a high-capacity air conditioning system including defroster vents for the rear quarter windows. Some wear is noted on the driver’s seat.
Marking the final iteration of the air-cooled 911, this 993 is equipped with a venerable 3.6-liter flat-six engine rated at 282 HP. The rear wheels are driven by a 4-speed automatic Tiptronic transmission. The seller adds that an oil change and inspection have been performed, and no outstanding maintenance items have been reported.
This sale will include a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: “Super clean Carrera drives as good as it looks. Low miles match the feel and handling. Excellent shifting Tiptronic trans is crisp and loads of fun in manual mode. The Targas are getting hard to find with good miles like this one.”

Offer in the amount of $54,000
@aidan786 Unlikely, given the downward trend, likelihood of Targa issues with no replacement parts available from Porsche, and the general condition.
I think it's borderline good deal at this price, hope you get lucky Notriding!
Thanks everyone, hope I don’t regret this….;)

My passenger and videographer remember window being slightly open
I do hear it at 6:38 as well. As everyone is suspecting it may be the targa roof not properly closed but you weren’t driving with a window slightly open right?
@sorcerer Sorry, I cant hear what you hear the targa roof closes tight and properly
you hear the whistling sound at the 6:38 mark as well, and a couple other times. it's very likely the top, as I just had a similar issue discovered on another targa from a PPI.
Seller, can you determine if that's the top making the noise right at the front of the headliner?
@Johnvt11111 I dont hear anything
@DuncanPreOwned Any idea what that sound is then?
@DuncanPreOwned The pictures start at drivers side quarter and go around the drivers side to passenger side. quarters read a little higher no discoloration or signs of repair paint overall is great
@Johnvt11111 I drove the Targa for the video and found no unusual noises or performance issues at all.
Additional content has been added to the gallery for this listing.
What's are the paint readings for? Check for repairs? Rust? Info appreciated, thanks.
At 7:21 and 9:54 in the video you hear a whistling sound. Any idea what that’s coming from? Thanks!
@DuncanPreOwned - thx brother, appreciate the responsiveness.
Ill get some meter pics tomorrow
No evidence of repair work likely redone foe stone chips or scratches
@DuncanPreOwned can you please post the pics with readings? And a closure picture of:
- the gasket between rear left quarter and bumper
- rear quarter edge above the rear left light.
Or is it due to the “ clear coat was refinished very well done.”
Sounds like @seller is stating clear coat was redone.
If so, @seller - do you have any info re why the clear coat redone ?
Many thx !!
@seller., @emelin - do the higher readings on rear quarters suggest respray ?
paint reads between 3 and 5 overall except rear quarters read 6 and 7 looks like the clear coat was refinished very well done
@DuncanPreOwned are paint thickness readings available? Especially for rear quarters. Protection film is missing. Any idea why?
@seller - appreciate your patience. Car looks nice and I’m asking questions because I’m interested.
Thanks for your interest This is a nice Targa
@Seller - thx, i got it. No emissions required in CT, so the combo of the import paperwork plus the existing TN title, with a bill of sale, should do it.
Does the TN title have the VIN on it ?
In the state of Virginia, once a vehicle is 25 years old, inspections are not required they can be registered as an antique. I am not familiar with other states so check with your state.
Ok, well, we’re getting to the answer, albeit slowly.
How am I supposed to sort out if the car will pass inspection in CT or RI ?
Bid in the amount of $40,000
Ok, well, we’re getting to the answer, albeit slowly.
How am I supposed to sort out if the car will pass inspection in Sat, CT or RI ?
Each state has different requirements.
@seller - so, are you saying “yes” to my question ?
@seller - do, are you saying “yes” to my question ?
@Ram3k We have all the import paperwork and it has a clean Tennessee title
I assume the car will pass US inspection but pls confirm.
@Emelin Headlights are in great condition
@Ram3k key thing is headlights. You cannot adjust them to pass MOT as they have LHT beam and need to replace.
@Ram3k - no side marker lights
- Japanese headlights for LHT
- 2 rear fog lights
- european bumpers without “rubber bricks”
- integrated rear seats
- catalityc converter temperature control
- no option sticker on the bonnet
- no traditional “service book”

@seller - any significant variances between Japanese and US spec cars ?
@selker - I see the Carfax is now posted, thx for responsiveness.
@DuncanPreOwned thanks for confirming. Would be great to update the very first sentence in the advert, which is now saying it is “ one of just 567 U.S.-spec examples produced for the model year”.
Agree with you on quality and usually low mileage if Jap cars.
GLWS!
@Emelin It is a Japanese import we find the condition and the quality of these imports to be excellent.
@Ram3k The CARFAX is available in the attachment section of the listing page.
@Ram3k it is a pure Jap spec car. Not European. No option sticker, Japanese FM stereo, Japanese sticker on the ignition lock, lots of Japanese stickers in the engine bay from Mizwa.
- hope you could clarify why is it positioned as a European version and I’m wrong with my observations
@seller - thx.
Is there a Carfax ?
Bid in the amount of $25,250
Bid in the amount of $25,000
@Ram3k Lights, windows ,rear deck spoiler, all power equipment is in good working order I will try to get an options package downloaded
@seller - will the CarFax be posted ?
Also, is there a build sheet ? I’ve tried loading the VIN into 2 different decoder sites and both say it does not appear to be a valid VIN - is it because it was not a US spec vehicle ?
Lastly, does everything work as intended ?
Thx
Good morning Please look at a lovely example of a European Porsche 911 Targa. Imported through Japan and offered for delivery here in the mountains of Virginia. It has a clean Tennessee title. We can ship or make it an adventure to drive our beautiful mountain roads . The driving video shows how smooth it drives and how strong the performance is. Inspections welcome , bid with confidence. Cheers
This is not a USA spec car. Please clarify…
