We are pleased to present this 1997 Porsche 993 Carrera S Coupe finished in Zenith Blue Metallic over a Midnight Blue leather interior.  While it may be a daunting task to take an already stellar 993 Carrera S to the next level, this example seems to do it with ease.  Equipped with exclusive factory options along with a handful of distinctive upgrades, it is clear that this Carrera S coupe is something special.  Showing 52k well-documented miles on the odometer, this example is being offered in excellent condition by its seller in Delaware.

The rare Zenith Blue Metallic finish on this Carrera S is said to be in excellent condition which is clear when viewing the gallery photos. With the goal of bringing this Carrera S to a concours-level, the seller had the hood, bumper and rear deck professionally refinished. All work was performed by the restoration experts at Gassman Automotive in Waynesboro, Virginia.  Immediately following completion, the entire front end clip and mirrors were covered with XPEL protection film for the next owners convenience.  Although the Carfax report does note slight damage under the previous owners care, an inspection performed prior to the seller’s purchase revealed that no damage of any significance was ever sustained.

In January of 2019, this 911 was transported to Madison Automotive Apprentices in Harrisonburg, Virginia, home to the concours-winning staff headed by well-known Porsche expert, Cole Scrogham.  The car was thoroughly inspected and underwent a thorough refreshment including the installation of a color matched three spoke 996 steering wheel along with a deep cleaning of the seats and carpeting.  The seller notes that stainless steel door sills with “Carrera S” designation were also installed along with a new pedal set and a hidden Valentine Radar detector.  This unique Midnight Blue interior is said to be in excellent condition with all electronics in working order.

This Carrera S is equipped with its original air-cooled 3.6 L flat-six engine rated at 282 HP and 250 lb-ft of torque.  Power is sent to the rear wheels by way of a smooth 6-speed manual transmission paired with an optional torque limited slip differential.  A Bilstein adjustable coilover suspension has also been installed and is currently set to a European ride height for a tasteful look as well as increased handling capabilities.  The seller states that an extensive amount of maintenance items have recently been addressed including the replacement of the following items:

  • Brake pads and rotors
  • Fluids and filters
  • Battery
  • Engine belts
  • Spark plugs
  • Rack and pinion steering box
  • Clutch (44k miles)

This Carrera S is said to be in excellent running condition.

The sale will include two keys, factory books, a Certificate of Authenticity,  an additional decklid, and a Carfax report.  Don't miss your chance to own this truly special 993 Carrera S Coupe.

@bkniep The exhaust system is stock except for Fabspeed mufflers. After markets came on the car when I bought it., but, they were not of the quality of the Fabspeeds.
    I don’t have the originals.

  • bkniep (registered bidder) 4 years, 7 monthsago

The car has a stock exhaust correct?

  • Tlombardo (seller) 4 years, 7 monthsago

@suitcase Absolutely agree! My reason for selling doesn’t conflict with the sentiment you expressed. I’ve just decided I’d like to have a track car and having both is not practical at this time. This car is as high a level driver as you can get, and putting it on the track would not be an option for me. Someone else might think otherwise and that’s OK , too! The next caretaker can make their own judgement. :)

  • suitcase (registered bidder) 4 years, 7 monthsago

@Tlombardo But you're the seller! I'm just an old school enthusiast with an opinion. But I do think given the cost of a new Porsche that a good '97 or '98 C2S is a viable (and appreciating) alternative to a new car.

  • Tlombardo (seller) 4 years, 7 monthsago

    @suitcase I second that!!!Thanks!

  • suitcase (registered bidder) 4 years, 7 monthsago

I've had or have almost everything. And I drive all of them including R, 959, RS etc. My daily driver is a '98 C2S with suspension work and hardbacks. What a privilege. This car is modern enough to use and vintage enough to maintain that old school, small, light, 911 feel.

@Rushseka Hi, Just goes to show you no matter how many times you look at something, sometimes you just don’t see. Just went out to the car and you are right. The photo enhances it allot , but, there is a little bit discoloration there. The good news is that I have the dye that was especially made for that interior , so, it can be easily corrected. Thanks for pointing that out. I think! :)

  • Rushseka (registered bidder) 4 years, 7 monthsago

@Tlombardo pic #31 appears to show damage to left rear seat back - near the release button. Is this a trick of photography, or is vinyl damaged? Thx!

@1973hp Hi, The stick shift knob and e brake handle were installed by the previous owner, so, unfortunately I do not have the originals . Sorry.

  • 1973hp (registered bidder) 4 years, 7 monthsago

My apologies if already addressed but are the original stick shift knob and e-brake handle included? The ones present look after market.

  • Tlombardo (seller) 4 years, 7 monthsago

@Markc Just to clarify, the rack and pinion steering rack was replaced, not, just the seal. Sorry if it wasn’t clear.

  • Tlombardo (seller) 4 years, 7 monthsago

@Markc Sorry, don’t have a paint meter. The panels stated are the only ones where the paint would be thicker.
There are Zero leaks from the engine and tranny. No pictures without the cover. I had a seal leak at the steering rack and replaced it.

  • Markc 4 years, 7 monthsago

You have not responded with paint Meter readings to a earlier question?
Also, any photos of the bottom of the engine to see the Condition( oil residue and so on).

@356rehab I would say it’s a 9. The color match is outstanding and considering the fact that this color has a changing palette as the light changes or even as you walk around the car ,it flows beautifully. Xpel on the front, ceramic coating on the rest.

  • 356rehab (registered bidder) 4 years, 7 monthsago

Could you please rate the quality of the paint from 1-10....both condition and color match considering a few panels have been re-painted

  • Tlombardo (seller) 4 years, 7 monthsago

@jdf1271 Yes , the original 4 spoke steering wheel is included.

  • jdf1271 (registered bidder) 4 years, 7 monthsago

@Tlombardo Thank you. Does the original 4 spoke wheel come with it as well?

  • Sportydrive 4 years, 7 monthsago

  • Tlombardo (seller) 4 years, 7 monthsago

    @Flsupraguy Yes, I do.

  • Flsupraguy (registered bidder) 4 years, 7 monthsago

Do you have receipts for "the seller had the hood, bumper and rear deck professionally refinished. All work was performed by the restoration experts at Gassman Automotive in Waynesboro, Virginia. "?

  • Tlombardo (seller) 4 years, 7 monthsago

@ELV I’ve fully disclosed the refinished panels in the text. The nature of this color lends itself to showing different tints in shadow and from light to dark.

  • Tlombardo (seller) 4 years, 7 monthsago

@Flsupraguy The head unit is the Classic Porsche Radio with NAV and Bluetooth. The speakers are Quart.

  • Flsupraguy (registered bidder) 4 years, 7 monthsago

It appears there is an aftermarket radio. What is the make and model of the head unit? I assume the speakers are oem?

  • Tlombardo (seller) 4 years, 7 monthsago

@Flsupraguy Yes, A/C , heat , clock, roof, tail, etc are all functional. There is no smoke at startup.

  • ELV (registered bidder) 4 years, 7 monthsago

Can you upload paint meter readings? Looks like the color is not matching on the front frunk and rear engine cover.

  • Flsupraguy (registered bidder) 4 years, 7 monthsago

I assume the ac and heat are fully functional? Any smoke at startup with the engine?

  • Tlombardo (seller) 4 years, 7 monthsago

@Rushseka They are the original hollow spoke wheels that came on the car.

  • Rushseka (registered bidder) 4 years, 7 monthsago

@ Seller - are the wheels hollow-spoke turbo, or the solid turbo-look versions? Thank you.

  • Tlombardo (seller) 4 years, 7 monthsago

@Flsupraguy When I purchased the car it already had aftermarket mufflers installed. Not sure which brand they were, but, I didn’t feel they were anywhere close to the quality of the Fabspeed’s. The stainless is beautiful and the sound, coupled with the Fabspeed High Performance Airbox and BMC high flow filter, gives it a nice note!
On a side note: The weather is crummy here today so I won’t be pulling the car out to shoot video or pictures. Should be able to tomorrow.

  • Flsupraguy (registered bidder) 4 years, 7 monthsago

@Tlombardo thank you. Do you still have the oem mufflers?

  • Tlombardo (seller) 4 years, 7 monthsago

@rhodipca There are two undercarriage pictures in the photo section currently and I will take some others soon. Working on the exhaust one, as well.

  • rhodipca (registered bidder) 4 years, 7 monthsago

Undercarriage pictures and running exhaust video as well please. Thx

  • Tlombardo (seller) 4 years, 7 monthsago

    @Flsupraguy Thanks for your interest.
The damage occurred under the previous owner so I do not have any pictures of it. The dealer has a long history with the previous owner and described it as superficial.
The car has not been driven in the winter or any bad weather. It stays under cover in the garage on a lift , sitting in tire cradles with a battery charger attached. There is absolutely no evidence of salt, rust or any other damage to the undercarriage.
A compression check was done during my PPI, but, I do not have the readout. It was reported to me as “strong” and not requiring a leakdown test.
The exhaust is OEM, with the addition of FABSPEED mufflers. Don’t have a video, but, I can tell you it sounds great! Not to loud , just enough to add to the music coming from behind you!
I believe Fabspeed may have some videos on you tube and I’ll put together one soon.

  • Flsupraguy (registered bidder) 4 years, 7 monthsago

Do you have any pics you can upload of the damage before it was repaired? Have you performed a compression test/leakdown test of the engine that you can share? Is it possible to get a video of the exhaust? Was the car driven in the snow/salt at all? Years ago I purchased a car from up north and the salt completely destroyed the undercarriage of the vehicle.

  • Tlombardo (seller) 4 years, 7 monthsago

@jdf1271 Yes, I will ask the auction to upload a picture of the turbo tail

  • Tlombardo (seller) 4 years, 7 monthsago

@356rehab I would like to have a Porsche for track days (GT3 or GTS) and I would not use this car for that purpose. Not in a position to have both.

  • Tlombardo (seller) 4 years, 7 monthsago

@1973hp No, it is a Porsche OEM part.

  • jdf1271 (registered bidder) 4 years, 7 monthsago

@Tlombardo Might you have a pic of the turbo decklid? Thank you very much

  • 356rehab (registered bidder) 4 years, 7 monthsago

Seller-why are you selling the car...appears you’ve had it just a year and half or so

  • 1973hp (registered bidder) 4 years, 7 monthsago

Is the current rear lid on the car the original lid? Thank you for clarifying.

  • Tlombardo (seller) 4 years, 7 monthsago

@993fan No Worries. I wasn’t offended. I consider myself a caretaker for a small piece of automotive history and am interested to know if and when things are different from the original. Sounds like you feel the same way. You strive to do the best you can, count on those more knowledgeable and hope the effort pays off. I’m proud of this car and think it will add allot of joy to someone’s collection. I’ve made the decision to see it go only because I’d like to get a car I can put on the track and I just wouldn’t do that with this car!
    Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

  • 993fan (registered bidder) 4 years, 7 monthsago

@Tlombardo I want to reiterate the appreciation for the prompt responses!

Just thought I’d clarify that the S wheels came from the factory a different shade. Yours look fantastic and wasn’t implying there was any issue with the final color.

Your approach to maintenance mirrors my own with regards to my ‘98 C2S - everything should be (and is) as close to original as possible, using only proper parts, while making it right for me!

  • Tlombardo (seller) 4 years, 7 monthsago

@993fan Thanks for the kind words! The wheels were refinished and that may be why they look more silvery. :) As with everything on this car , it was important to Me to use the proper parts and materials to keep as much originality as possible. I left it to the experts to help achieve that outcome , but, an Interesting point. I will ask them about it.

  • 993fan (registered bidder) 4 years, 7 monthsago

Nicely and openly presented ... credit to the owner for the prompt responses. It is an unusual and very appealing color combo.

It’s hard to tell for sure (looking in my phone), but it appears the wheels were also refinished to match those on the Turbos S as they are more “silver” than the standard finish of others.

  • Tlombardo (seller) 4 years, 7 monthsago

@1973hp The additional deck lid is an aftermarket Turbo tail painted to match. It was installed by the original owner. I preferred the OEM look and replaced it with the proper “S” hood.
The damage happened with the previous owner, so, that report was not made available to me.
    Thanks.

  • 1973hp (registered bidder) 4 years, 7 monthsago

What is the additional deck lid?
Will you be presenting the previous damage and repair report?
    Paint meter readings?

  • Tlombardo (seller) 4 years, 7 monthsago

@Markc I don’t have the original radio, but, yes I do have pictures of the underside. I’ll ask the auction to upload them. Ahead of picture proof, I will say that the undercarriage is as pristine as the top-side! Every drain, diverter, plug, fastener and screw was checked for originality and if it wasn’t correct, it was replaced. That goes for the rest of the car, as well! Genuine Porsche parts were used extensively, with the exception of the Fabspeed mufflers. Thanks for your question.

  • Tlombardo (seller) 4 years, 7 monthsago

@Markc Yes, they were originally black. The previous owner painted them yellow to give it the turbo S look.

  • Markc 4 years, 7 monthsago

Is the original radio included and do you have pictures of the underneath to better evaluate condition?

  • maxpower 4 years, 7 monthsago

Bid in the amount of $20,000

  • Markc 4 years, 7 monthsago

Not sure, but the brake calipers should be red or black. Could you please elaborate.

  • Sa1em (registered bidder) 4 years, 7 monthsago

Hello there, please owner of this 993 send to me your email for further info. Best wishes happy bidding guys. Good luck.
    Regards

  • Tlombardo (seller) 4 years, 7 monthsago

@jdf1271 Thanks for your inquiry. The original 4 spoke steering wheel is blue (Matches the seat color) and in near perfect condition. No tears, cuts or wear that I can see on it. I just liked the three spoke better, so I had that installed.
Zenith Blue Metallic is a factory option color (not PTS)and would say it is a very rich blue, but, in different light takes on a purple tint and in low light a dark blue tint. It can literally change colors as you walk around the car!
It is very rare, although I have seen it a couple of times on other models, like the Boxster. I have yet to see it on another “S” or “ 4S” 993. Most often it gets confused with Sapphire blue which is very popular.
When coupled with the Midnight Blue interior it becomes even more rare. Most Blue cars, whether they be this blue, Sapphire or dark blue came with grey interiors. Hope that helps.

  • jdf1271 (registered bidder) 4 years, 7 monthsago

@Tlombardo what is the condition of the original steering wheel, is it blue as well? Would you say Zenith is blue or a little purple, can't tell, never saw it in person. Was this a PTS color?

  • Tlombardo (seller) 4 years, 7 monthsago

@FormoRaro Hi, Yes , I have the original steering wheel. Thanks for the question.

  • FormoRaro (registered bidder) 4 years, 7 monthsago

is the original steering wheel Included?

  • Tlombardo (seller) 4 years, 7 monthsago

@Pops710 Hi Pops710! I was told by the dealer (CCS) that the damage was a large scratch that was too big to ignore, but, not involving any substantial bodywork or panel replacement. I had the car examined in a pre-purchase inspection and then again when the refreshment work was done and both experts believed there was no evidence of anything but superficial damage and that the work done to correct it was excellent. Thanks

  • Tlombardo (seller) 4 years, 7 monthsago

@Goldie Thank you for your interest. Yes, I have two forms of factory build information.
The original under hood build sticker, which lists by number all of the included factory equipment and options and A “Certificate of Authenticity”.
There is a picture of the “sticker” in the photo array and I will ask that the auction add the picture of “Certificate” today. Hope that helps.

  • Goldie (registered bidder) 4 years, 7 monthsago

is there a factory build sheet available?

  • Pops710 (registered bidder) 4 years, 7 monthsago

Any explanation on damage reported on Carfax?
