Finished in Guards Red over a Cashmere Beige interior, this 1996 Porsche 993 Carrera Coupe was previously owned by Matthew Shaw, a prominent Porsche builder and enthusiast in Tennessee who oversaw a host of upgrades and high-end modifications. It features a 6-speed manual transmission with an FD Motorsport short shifter, an MA Shaw Aerokit, Bilstein PSS10 coilovers, 18" RUF 5-spoke wheels, red brake calipers, an RS-style steering wheel, and a Guards Red bolt-in roll cage. It was purchased by the current owner about 11 years ago and has been routinely serviced by a reputable independent specialist ever since. Showing approximately 103k miles on the odometer, this 993 is now being offered for auction out of Michigan.

Finished in Guards Red, this Carrera Coupe has been fitted with an MA Shaw Aerokit including RS-style front and rear spoilers. Other equipment includes projector-style headlamps with washers, clear corner lenses, Turbo S-style front fog lights, an electric sunroof, power mirrors, dual exhaust outlets, and red brake calipers mounted behind silver 18” RUF 5-spoke wheels. The car rides on Michelin Pilot Sport tires dated from 2018 in the rear and 2016 in the front. The seller notes the rear bumper was refinished after the rear end damage was reported on CARFAX in 1996. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a full CARFAX report.

The Cashmere Beige and Black partial leather interior is factory-equipped with 8-way power-operated seats, automatic climate control, cruise control, a remote central locking system, an onboard computer, and a sound system. It has been fitted with a Guards Red painted bolt-in roll cage, a three-spoke RS-style leather steering wheel, an Alpine Bluetooth head unit, and an FD Motorsports shifter with a black rubber boot and a custom gear knob.

Rated at 272 HP and 243 lb.-ft of torque, the air-cooled 3.6-liter flat-six engine sends power to the rear wheels through a 6-speed manual transmission. The suspension has been modified with Bilstein PSS10 coilovers and stopping power comes from fixed 4-piston brakes with cross-drilled discs at each corner. The seller states the car has been maintained by the specialists at German Automotive Services over the past 11 years and an extensively documented service history is included in the sale.

This sale will include owner’s manuals, a toolkit, a spare tire, spare belts, an extra fuel pump relay, and a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “Offered here is a beautiful Guards Red 993 Coupe 6-Speed for consideration. This car has been owned locally in Grand Rapids, MI for the past 11 years and has been routinely serviced by German Automotive Services. It was purchased from Matthew Shaw (a well-known Porsche builder) of Tennessee in 2013 with some tasteful modifications, which enhance an already awesome air-cooled driving experience. We hope it finds a great new owner and garage to call home. Happy bidding!”

@MattShaw thanks for the 993 tips…I have a 993 C2S w/27K miles that I bought on BaT last year that passed CA emissions so I presume that the air injection is not occluded but I’ll plan to use Chevron gas with Techron and drive it hard going forward!

@shawns the roll cage is just bolted in under the rear floor mats and rear seat belt base. Very easy to remove and return to stock.

  • shawns (registered bidder) 1 week, 4 daysago

Hi, was wondering how easy it would be to remove the roll cage? Was the interior modified to mount the roll cage or can it be returned to stock? Thanks!

Current smog test monitor status is critical to SAI function. PST2, PIWIS, Durametric and others can run a specific SAI function test. If I bid or inspect any 993 I run or require monitor status. Common issues with Varioram engines.

    @RyanSimmons @vinknee @hpatel1976 thanks for the bids!

@MattShaw thank for the insight. Since you sold it to our friend in Michigan, he has had the car routinely serviced at German Automotive Services. I will see if PCAR can upload those records for you guys to see.

When I sold the 993 in 2013 it was in perfect condition. I think it had 75K. Never should have should have sold it but I’ve said that about dozens of Porsches over my lifetime. The big issue with Varioram cars is the secondary air (SAI). Google “993 SAI” and try not to let your computer burn-up. If you have emissions you need it checked. We had emissions in Tennessee so it required fuel additive. I used Techron to reduce the risk of occlusion. Driving them hard helps keep the SAI breathing. Everyone knows I drive everything hard and the 993 was no exception. I’d rather have a well maintained high mile Porsche than a low mile car with poor service history. Proper service means everything on these cars.

@MikeyWoodz no engine upgrades. Exhaust is a Ceramic Coated Fister II system. Unsure about smog. We are in Michigan and do not have those regulations.

  • MikeyWoodz (registered bidder) 2 weeks, 1 dayago

Any engine upgrades? What about the exhaust system? Does it pass smog?

  • garagekept (seller) 2 weeks, 1 dayago

@PhantomU ask @MattShaw - he owned it before. I assume he did a lot of work himself, which wasn't reported to CarFax. But as general rule, better to have recent service history than the other way around.

  • PhantomU 2 weeks, 1 dayago

Carfax shows no service for the first 50K miles? Is that correct? No service from 2002 and 2006. No service from 2007 to 2017. Very good service history from 2017 on.

  • Handsofstone (registered bidder) 2 weeks, 1 dayago

@mattShaw.......It is easy.....just hide it from your wife........if you don't have one then you are 1 step ahead......and bid higher than everyone else!!!! Everyone then is Happy!!!!
