One of the defining sports cars of the late 20th century, the Ferrari F355 features Pininfarina-designed bodywork, a steel monocoque frame, electronically adjustable suspension, and a mid-mounted 3.5-liter V8 with 5 valves per cylinder. This 1995 example is one of 3,717 Spider versions produced in total and only 2,664 that were equipped with a gated 6-speed manual transmission. Finished in Giallo Fly over a black leather interior, it had formerly been owned by an ex-Indy Car driver from whom it was purchased by the seller.  Recently fortified with an engine-out timing belt service and new tires, this F355 Spider is now being offered for auction out of Virginia with under 19k miles showing on the odometer.

Adapted from the hardtop Berlinetta version, the F355 Spider’s Pininfarina-designed bodywork was revised with 1,800 hours of wind tunnel testing and was the first Ferrari to offer a fully electric convertible top. This example is finished in Giallo Fly (Fly Yellow) with a black cabriolet roof and factory 18” 5-spoke magnesium wheels in silver. Other details include a vented engine cover, an integrated rear spoiler, side air intakes, pop-up headlamps, black Ferrari-branded brake calipers, and quad exhaust outlets. The seller notes that the hood was refinished to address scratches from clear bra removal and the rear decklid was refinished to address a scratch at the same time. The paintwork is said to be in very good overall condition apart from a touched-up chip on the rear bumper. Additional images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

The cabin is lined with black carpeting and matching leather upholstery covering the seats, dashboard, door panels, center console, and four-spoke steering wheel. Accessories include power windows and mirrors, automatic air conditioning, drilled aluminum pedals, and an aftermarket Sony stereo. The seller notes the common sticky buttons issue has been addressed and minimal wear is visible on the driver’s seat. All electronics and accessories are said to be fully functional.

The mid-mounted Tipo F129 B/C 3.5-liter DOHC V8 features a 5-valve cylinder head, titanium connecting rods, and dry-sump lubrication. Up to 375 HP and 275 lb.-ft of torque is sent to the rear wheels by way of a 6-speed manual gearbox and a limited-slip differential. An engine-out service and timing belt replacement were performed within the last 200 miles along with the installation of new Michelin tires. The seller adds that a previous engine-out service was performed in 2016 at 17k miles.

This sale will include owner’s manuals, a toolkit, a spare engine belt, and a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “Thank you for taking the time to look and bid at our latest offering here on PCARMARKET. Purchased from an old friend and real car guy who was involved with Indy Car for many years and was a racer himself. This car is fully sorted and ready to be driven. I personally have put more miles on the car than it had in the last 6 years. I love the 355 and this one doesn’t disappoint. Fresh recent service and new Michelins should provide many more miles of smiles with just oil changes in between.”

Calikid I apologize for the delay in responding to you but I wanted to make sure that everything I say is true and correct. I have been in contact with the previous owner about the radiator replacements. He told me that he was attending a Concourse in Texas and was driving on to the lawn to park and went over an unseen hump in the grass. The effect was a cooling line pinch and minor stretch to the radiator. Rather than ship the car back to Chicago he opted for Broadway to do the repairs. He told me that the technician doing the service recommended replacing that radiator and due to lack of use remove the other side for a hot tank flush. No damage whatever to the underside. He purchased the car from Lake Forest when his friend traded it for a 246. He told me that when the car went in for a recall that he had the valve seals done at that time. I do have underside pictures and will gladly share. Thanks

  • Calikid (registered bidder) 6 monthsago

Hi Bill I'm wondering if the valve guides have been done in the car and it appears that the car was bottomed out pretty badly according to the service records. Can you post some pictures of the underside of the car?

Good morning and good question. I just spoke with Greg at PAS and asked him about that. He said that when the car came in to do the invoice he just right clicked initial invoice information over to the new one. He is correcting the latest belt invoice and also sending me a picture of the odometer with the mileage when the car was dropped off. I should have that within the hour and will get it posted. Thanks Bill

  • SER (registered bidder) 6 monthsago

Why do the invoices for the belt service in 2016 and 2023 from Personalized Auto Services show the same mileage, but an invoice from 2019 shows higher miles?

  • ridecooler (seller) 6 monthsago

Sorry it took me a while to get back to you. As stated in the description the hood and rear decklid were refinished due to scratches. Other than that it remains original on the other panels. Thanks Bill

  • Flea7 (registered bidder) 6 monthsago

The paint looks off. Has the car be through a repaint?

As we head into the final hour of our auction I would like to thank all of the people that have taken the time to view and bid on our 355. The winning bidder will not be disappointed in any way. We always stand behind our sales and have for 39 years. I just uploaded a video showing the top up/down operation on the car. As you all know the final minutes can be very exciting for both the bidders and myself as a seller. Good luck to all and again Thank you. Bill

@ridecooler Thank you for the clarification.

The usual sticky switch issues have been taken care of and all are good now. The leather is fine and is in excellent condition. I did have the car detailed and a leather treatment was done at the same time. As Im sure you are aware the first step in lowering the top is manually done until the halfway point when the power operation begins. Initially when we received the car I had an issue in that it reached the power part and would not go any further. I called the our Ferrari technician and he walked me thru the overide process and the top folded as it should. Knowing the car for the last ten plus years he said that the top had not been up and down more 3 times with the last owner and it needed to be enjoyed. Since then I have had no problems with it. The seams are all in fantastic condition with no stitching undone or frayed. Thanks Bill

Every Ferrari that I have known in the past has sticky guey dashboard, switches and pretty much majority of the leather. Have you treated it or paid to have cleaning service? Are any of the light switches or or other instrumental panels that have been replaced? Also, the soft top, does it require any assist or needs cleaning. Are their any seems that are distressed on the hard top?

  • ridecooler (seller) 6 monthsago

Good morning, unfortunately I do not have the original stereo head unit.

  • eight_bit_micro (registered bidder) 6 monthsago

@ridecooler do you have the original radio?

  • ridecooler (seller) 6 monthsago

Also if you check out the service record they show the seat micro switches had been addressed previously. Again generally have that problem from lack of use. Thanks Bill

  • ridecooler (seller) 6 monthsago

It does. When we first received the car the top had not been activated in quite some time so it had lack of use issues. A stuck bow and resync of the seat / top function. As I am sure that you are aware that it’s only partial power. We went to the controller in the console behind the seats and were able to run it thru several cycles without having any issues. Thanks Bill

  • Avant911 (registered bidder) 6 monthsago

    Does the top function properly?

  • ridecooler (seller) 6 monthsago

I added the service records individually for the 355. The break down on the 5700.00 invoice was for radiator and cooling line replacement. The owner hit something in the road that caused a leak so he had both replaced at the same time along with the cooling line. Thanks Bill
