The second-generation BMW M3 is based on the E36 3-Series and features a high-performance S50 inline-six engine with VANOS variable valve timing. This 1995 Coupe comes finished in Avus Blue (276) over Black Nappa leather and features a 5-speed manual conversion. Delivered new at Continental Motors in Oceanside, this lifelong California car is now being offered for auction by its seller while showing approximately 148k miles on the odometer.

This example is finished in Avus Blue (276) and stands out from the standard 3-Series with its more aggressive bumpers, side skirts, aerodynamic mirrors, and M3 badging. Features include a factory sunroof, fog lights, and twin exhaust outlets. It rides on 17” BMW Style 23 M-Contour wheels. The seller notes minor paint imperfections on the lower front bumper, and the rear bumper was refinished under the previous owner in 2008. Detailed images are available in the gallery, along with a clean CARFAX report.

It features the Luxury Package's special-patterned door panels, black carpets, and fine wood trim accenting the center console, gear shift lever, and dashboard inserts. Amenities include a power sunroof, dual-zone automatic climate control, power accessories, cruise control, an M-Sport leather-wrapped steering wheel, M3-branded instrumentation, M3 door sill guards, an onboard computer, an AM/FM/cassette stereo, and a 6-CD changer. The seller notes wear on the door panels and pockets, and mentions that while the airbag warning light turns on when starting the car, it disappears shortly after.

Beneath the hood lies a 3.0-liter S50 inline-six engine, sending as much as 240 HP and 225 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels. The transmission has been converted to a 5-speed manual under the previous ownership, and accompanying documentation is included in the sale. A limited-slip differential is also equipped as standard. Service under the current owner is said to include a valve cover gasket replacement, new spark plugs, a catalytic converter, a new O2 sensor, and serviced fuel injectors. The previous owner reportedly replaced the drive belt, AC belt, and other belts, along with the head gasket, water pump, radiator, thermostat, head bolt, and deflection pulley. A minor oil leak from the oil pan is noted, and service documentation is said to be included with the sale.

This sale will include a clean title and a host of documentation.

The seller would like you to know: “This M3 has been in San Diego since day 1. Original paint and stock mechanically. The interior has been redone with ‘Rain’ and suede material. One year only Avus Blue. Have service record since day 1. The cooling system has been addressed. 95 M3's handle much better, in my opinion, due to 3L vs. 3.2L.”

Oof.. $25k for a converted 95 M3? And you'd still need to address leaking oil pan gasket and delaminating door cards.

  • mafia89 (registered bidder) 2 days, 15 hoursago

@alert yea 25k is wild. Was thinking like 15 tops. They are selling cheaper on BAT

@henryr After speaking with the previous owner and John (owner of Autobahn), I was told that Auto diff from the factory was 3.15 and Manual Diff was 3.23. Currently have 3.15 diff on this M3. If i misunderstood or got wrong info, maybe other who know lot more about E36 can chime in.

Thanks and I hope this answers your question.

  • henryr (registered bidder) 2 days, 19 hoursago

let me clarify. the manuals came with a 3.15 rear diff or another ratio?

Welcome to my E36 1995 Avus Blue M3 auction. One year only for the E36's I did my best to show how brilliant the color is in the picture gallery.  I just think it shows much better in person. I've been around E36 M3's for over 20 plus years and 95 is truly special vs 96-99. Let me know if you have any questions about my M3. M3 came with service records that date back since (Feb 1995).. I will be going through and posting pertinent and recent service history over the weekend. Meanwhile, hit the contact seller button. If you have other questions/ talk to me about my M3.
    Thanks.

@n_l I got in contact with the previous owner and also Autobahn (El Cajon, Ca) who sourced the parts for the conversion. Previous owner thinks the conversion was done sometime in 2019/2020. He was not sure about the exact month. Stock Diff from the auto was used (3.15) and M3 transmission and parts were believed to have been sourced to do the conversion.
M3 shifts really well. Let me know if you have any other questions.

  • n_l (registered bidder) 1 week, 1 dayago

When was the conversion done, and what car sourced the 5-spd? Was the rear axle ratio different for the auto vs. the manual?
