A utilitarian G-Class designed for fleet and military use, the Mercedes-Benz 290GD was a 5-cylinder diesel-powered W461 generation model that was launched in 1993 featuring the bodywork of the original W460 with the updated chassis of the newer W463. This 1994 example is said to be a former Polish Border Security patrol vehicle which was imported to the United States in early 2023 and is now being offered for auction by its seller out of New York.
This two-door G-Class was previously refinished in its current green paint color and features black trim and bumpers, rear mudflaps, a front brush guard, caged fog lights, a Warn winch, sliding rear windows, a rear window wiper, and a rear-mounted spare wheel. It rides on 16” silver wheels. The seller notes the paint quality is fair and the exterior would benefit from wet sanding and polishing. Some cosmetic imperfections and small dings are noted and the functionality of the front winch has not been confirmed. Additional images are provided in the gallery.
The cabin is trimmed in black vinyl upholstery and includes front bucket seats, a rear bench seat, a four-spoke steering wheel, and rubber floor liners. Other accessories include a heater and defroster, three-point seatbelts, hand-crank windows, a quartz clock, differential lock controls, and a locking glovebox. The seller states that the cabin appears to have been reupholstered and the glovebox door and locking mechanism were replaced under their ownership. The seller notes that the trip odometer is inoperable, and the tachometer and engine temperature gauge needles occasionally stick.
Power comes from a 2.9-liter inline 5-cylinder OM602 diesel engine that drives all four wheels through a 5-speed manual transmission with a dual-range transfer case and locking front and rear differentials. The seller indicates that all fluids were replaced upon their purchase and the engine is in strong running order. The seller adds that the transmission feels slightly sticky when selecting first gear and reverse, but it shifts smoothly and is very easy to use.
This sale will include a toolkit, a spare tire, and a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: “This Mercedes G Wagon isn't a concourse showpiece, but it's an outstanding driver's car in great condition. It blends vintage charm with modern reliability, offering an authentic G Wagon experience. It's been well-maintained, runs smoothly, and is a guaranteed head-turner. If you're looking for a car that's both eye-catching and enjoyable to drive, this G Wagon is for you.”

Is this still available?
Also, can you tell if anyone has smoked in it before ?
@khan654 No, there was a reserve, but it was not met. Thanks for your interest.
Wasn't this no reserve type bidding?
@Jregnaud Hi, That is correct. I've been unable to reset the trip odometer. It's stuck on 0, and when attempting to operate it, nothing happens. The regular odometer that counts the KM is operating normally. As far as anchoring a seat, if you're referring to a child restraint system, I haven't seen anchors, unfortunately.
trip odometer is inoperable, but the odometer works? Also I know it is a 94' but is there any way to anchor a car seat in the backseat?

@sisl2 As far as I know, the rear bench seats in the vehicle are removable. The vehicle is utilitarian and can be folded down. Since taking ownership in early 2023, there have been no noted fluid leaks, and it has completed two 100-mile trips to the east end of Long Island without issues. The tire condition is not confirmed, but they seem new and free from damage (no dry rot, cracking, etc.). The spare tire, though smaller and more road-oriented, appears to be in good shape as well.
Does the rear, bench seat fold down, or is it designed to be removeable?
Any fluid leaks?
Age of all 5 tires?
