Beneath the Mercedes-Benz 600 SL’s refined lines lies a robust 48-valve 6.0-liter V12. Introduced as the flagship variant of the Mercedes R129 SL-Class Roadster, the 600SL also features a self-leveling suspension system with active dampers. Finished in Signal Red over a black leather interior, this example was initially acquired by a collector through Mercedes-Benz’s European delivery program and has been meticulously maintained through the years. Accompanied by extensive service records, it is now being offered for auction by its seller out of New York with approximately 24k miles on the odometer.
This Roadster is finished in Signal Red (568), contrasted with a black convertible soft top. Details include V12 emblems, fender vents, and halogen headlamps and fog lamps. The 8-hole light alloy wheels are mounted with Michelin Pilot Sport tires with date codes from 2019. The seller describes this example to be in excellent overall condition, detailed images are provided in the gallery along with paint meter readings and a clean CARFAX report.
The interior is appointed with luxurious black leather (271) upholstery. Optional orthopedic front seatbacks are equipped while standard equipment includes a wind deflector between the headrests, a Becker radio, the High-Performance Sound System, and electrically adjustable front seats, steering column, and mirrors with memory.
The 600SL equips a 6.0-liter quad-cam V12 engine generating up to 389 HP and 421 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels through a 4-speed automatic transmission. Factory performance features include self-leveling suspension with the Adaptive Damping System (ADS) and Acceleration Skid Control (ASR). Aftermarket factory-correct brake dust shields have been added to the front wheels. The seller adds that services to the heater core, water pump, coolant expansion tank, blower motor, and air conditioning receiver drier have been performed. Recent items include a suspension valve block, nitrogen chambers, fuel pump, convertible top hinges, hood pad, radio antenna, fluids, filters, and transmission services in 2019, along with a complete service to the convertible top hydraulic cylinders in 2022. Extensive service records are provided in the gallery along with a detailed CARFAX report.

@virafp Good morning. Yes we have the radio code, everything in the car appears to be in working order including the A/C. I don't have an answer about the MPG gauge and the roads are wet currently so I would not be able to check. I don't recall that not being operational the last time I drove the car however, I wouldn't want to misrepresent. The phone in the trunk is the original phone that was installed when these cars were new and was later removed since they are CDMA technology and are useless now. It allows for additional storage in the dash where the phone once resided.

@11JM good morning, had a few questions. Do you have the radio code? Does the AC blow cold? On the video when you start the car and accelerate, the MPG dial on the dash does not move - is that normal? Also in Pic 131 along with the old phone there is a panel with a dial pad - was that something that was part of the old phone system and where was it installed? Thank you and GLWTS!
@audios22 hi, which photo are you referring to so I can best answer you. Also please note I provided paint meter readings for review that are in the listing.
It appeared from some of the undercarriage photos that the car had some overspray from a re-paint. Can you clarify please?
I wanted to add that the original hard top is included with this sale. The headliner (on the hard top) is original and is sagging. I never fixed it because I would never have any reason to mount the top on to the car since it is always garaged. the paint on the hard top is in consistent shape with the rest of the vehicle.

Wow, what a great example!
@SilverRose hello. You can see records in the gallery for suspension and top. We just performed extensive work on the top and it operates flawlessly. There should be a lot of peace of mind there. I’m not sure if there are any records for the harness, but I am pretty sure it was done, if it wasn’t It would’ve fallen apart completely by now. I will get some pictures of it on Monday and add to the gallery. Thank you for the interest .

@11jm - wiring harness addressed? Key issue for the year. Also top cyls? And any record of suspension service. Alway the most important early R129 QQs.
Welcome to the auction for one of the most magnificent R129 600SL's that is currently and will be available for purchase for the near future. Originality, preservation, and a flawless drive are what make this one stand apart. I have left the car with PCARMARKET at their HQ for any in-person inspections/viewings and strongly encourage you to do so. To say you won't be disappointed is an understatement. Collectors, don't miss this one!
