We are pleased to offer this 1991 Porsche 964 Carrera 4 finished in Guards Red over a beige interior with factory optioned Sport Seats. Featuring an all-wheel-drive system derived from the 959 supercar as well as an air-cooled flat-six engine mated to a G50 manual gearbox, this Carrera 4 was also upgraded under previous ownership with a modified suspension, performance brakes, and a Fabspeed exhaust system. Since the seller’s purchase in 2017, this 964 was fully serviced and inspected before an upgraded sound system was installed with a Porsche Classic radio at a cost of over $5k. With approximately 74k miles showing on the odometer, this Carrera 4 is now being offered by its seller in California accompanied by original books, tools, keys, service records, a clean title, and Porsche Certificate of Authenticity.
The Guards Red paint is said to be in good condition, free of any noteworthy imperfections (detailed images are provided in the photo gallery). Updated aero mirrors are equipped along with clear front turn signal lenses. Correct-type 17” Cup Design wheels were also sourced under the current ownership and mounted with brand-new Continental tires. Refurbishment carried out under previous ownership is said to include a new center taillight panel, new wiper motors and arms, repainted brake calipers, and new rubber seals for the doors, sunroof, and front trunk. The windshield was also reportedly replaced in 2016.
Inside, this 964 showcases a nicely preserved beige leather interior with highly desirable factory power Sport Seats. Some modifications include a center armrest, an aftermarket shift knob, silver gauge bezels, Rennline pedals, custom floor mats, and a leather steering wheel cover. The sound system was also overhauled under the current ownership with upgraded speakers and a Porsche Classic radio at a reported cost of over $5k. Some very minor peeling of the leather on the driver's seat is noted and the front trunk lid struts are said to be slightly weak. The seller reports all gauges and accessories to be fully functional.
The air-cooled 3.6 L flat-six engine generates 247 HP stock, which is distributed amongst all four wheels through a G50 5-speed manual transmission. This example has been upgraded with an EVO air intake and a Fabspeed exhaust system for improved power output and sound. Other performance upgrades include H&R lowering springs (RoW height), Bilstein shocks, a front anti-sway bar, cross-drilled brake rotors, ceramic brake pads, stainless-steel brake lines, and a front strut tower brace. In January of 2020 at just over 74k miles, nearly $4k worth of service was carried out including the replacements of chain tensioner gaskets, cam O-rings, valve cover gaskets, exhaust system gaskets, and the crankshaft pulley seal. The chain box cover was also resealed, the valves were adjusted, and a compression/leak-down test was carried out which yielded the following results:
This sale will include a set of 2 keys, original books and tools, a spare tire, service records, a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, and a clean title.

@Ace2777 Well, I think he did. And I’m the one ready to buy. You are the one not adding anything. Read my comments below. The seller can do a lot to alleviate many of the concerns and most of the unknowns. Think of these Online offerings as existing along a continuum. At one end, you have a seller providing closeup pictures of everything, sometimes totaling over 200 pics on BaT.
Then, you have this one. Mostly shiny red pictures of paint, and a few interior photos. And even those raise questions. Let alone questions that could come from pictures of the underneath.
I’m ready to buy, so I’m taking a deep and appreciate what nysaabtech mentioned.
@BoJones no one put me anywhere. I was just pointing out something that should
Be obvious. It’s a 31 year old car. It’s not perfect. It’s the comments by people with no intention of bidding. Just move along. Buying at auction comes with the risk of the unknown. Impossible to know the whole history via pics.
@Ace2777 calls @nysaabtech a “keyboard warrior”for noticing some peculiarities with this car, like new weather stripping (w/ only 74,000 miles) and paint overspray, and other strange paint.
Then, nysaabtech puts Ace2777 in his place by citing his credentials. A
Then, I learned via the BaT sale in ‘17 for $38K that the original leather shifter was available to current owner, but is now not available (badly worn?)
Then, you see the stitched-on wrap on the steering wheel (excessive wear underneath?)
And where are the original wheels? Beat to heck in NYC and gone. The FLA owner had Targa-only wheels, very strange. And now aftermarket Cups, but from where? I asked, but didn’t get an answer.
Then, if you look closely at the driver’s side carpet where your foot would hit the rocker panel while getting out, it looks pretty stained. The obvious over-scrubbing didn’t help.
Then, you look at the Carfax and the first six years and 51,000 miles are unaccounted for.
Carfax picks up in NY with inspections in NYC ... a rough place for cars, especially winter salt inside and out ... and horrible roads.
The car may have had a rough life in NYC, hence the new weatherstripping and stains inside.
Additionally, and crucially, No underside pics or paint meter readings.
BaT sellers love to show you paint meter readings that reflect original paint, and closeups of Everything under the car.
@wolfgangvonair makes a great point about misrepresented cars here, he’s doing his due diligence.
I just wish this car was represented in its naked truth, warts and all.

@BoJones this is a fantastic 964 with lots of care and attention put into it. It runs like a dream.. Everything on this car is in perfect working condition. The reason for the sale is the current owner is moving out of the country. This is a car that will definitely not disappoint!
@Fabianlebrija Yep, I later realized that the leak down test is essentially a PPI. Trying to buy my first 911, so I’m still learning ...
@BoJones I don’t have a specific shipper but will gladly ask some friends that ship premium cars on a regular basis. If I know of someone, I’ll send you their details in a private message, thank you
@BoJones the mechanics at Black Forest went through the car last February and provided the services needed to have the car running in optimum condition. These service records can be found in the photos provided. Thanks
@Fabianlebrija Thanks. I appreciate your patience. Do you have experience with a particular shipper that your could recommend?
@BoJones the paint on the entire car is in excellent shape. There is no fading around the removed side graphics. The car comes with the current shift knob detailed in the photos
Sorry to bombard you w questions, but I’m very interested. The PO from the BaT sale mentioned the existence of the original shift knob, do you have it?
Are the wheels an aftermarket brand and not OEM?
Do you have a PPI from Black Forest Porsche to provide?
If not, can you have one performed?
Correction: I mentioned “repaint” but maybe it was a paint correction. Is there any fading from around the removed side graphics?
Paint meter readings would help.
Could you help with shipping?
I live in North Carolina. She’d be making ownership trips from FLA, to Cali to NC.
BTW, my post below was not meant to disparage the car. In 2017 the car had Porsche graphics on the side, a rear wing and some road rash.
But the repaint and wing removal improves the car, IMHO.
Beautiful example. GLWTS.
Looks like this car sold for $38.2k in July 2017 with 71,000 miles.

hey keyboard warrior. I just sold my 91 964 that ive had since new. now im missing it and looking at others. mine had 29,000 miles and never had anything changed other than service. ive been a master tech and painter for 40 years. i know what im looking at. this car looks nice and is worth money no doubt. it just dosent add up. all new weatherstrips? really? thats what you do on a refinish and you dont paint the oil fill tube or have overspray on the boot latch.
@nysaabtech probably. It’s 30 years old. With over 70k miles..... I don’t know the car or owner. But it always bothers me when keyboard warriors try to diminish the value of an auction with their comments. Are you even a registered bidder? ?
judging by looking at the engine compartment it appears it has been completely repainted.
@Ace2777 why does the porsche service manual call it a g64.00 ?
@Roma there is no visible rust anywhere on the body. This car has always been garaged and very well kept
@nysaabtech it’s g50
Wonderful car. I must ask the Seller to comment on any rust?
I may be wrong about the trans but I think that what my owners manual said on my 964 c4
I don't know why someone would do so much to this car. Brake lines and caliper paint? This car has a g65 trans
@energyof2 I have purchased a new Carfax report today and sent to the pcarmarket team to upload, thanks
@skimaker I sent a picture of the underside of the car to the pcarmarket team and should be up shortly. All seats are the same leather/ color
Is there a page on CarFax missing? It doesn't show the typical # of owners and years. Also jumps from brand new mileage to 51,200 in first to second entry. Looks well maintained. GLWS.
I agree the compression numbers seem low. Also is there something up with the discoloration of the passenger seat or is it simply the photography? Can you provide some photography the the underside of the car including the new exhaust?
Let's get this party started
Bid in the amount of $10,964
@Wolfgangvonair I reached out to my mechanic to answer your question correctly (Black Forest Porsche in San Diego). They assured that the compression numbers and leak down percentages are good for a street engine. This car has never been tracked and is in pristine running condition.
Additional documents have been added to the listing gallery.
@Wolfgangvonair Hello. We received those numbers directly from the test report provided to us.
@energyof2 It is frustrating. I'm trying to buy a 964 coupe, saw this car and immediately thought the seller never did a compression check because the numbers are for a 3.2 lower compression 911 and if he did get these numbers, a buyer is looking at a weak engine.
I know 4 people who have nought 911's here. Two of the cars were OK. The other two were
completely misdescribed and needed substantial engine work.
@Wolfgangvonair In following or being serious about some of these ads with all due respect to this platform (just feedback) I see too many errors from color to mileage to things you pointed out. Frustrating.......
Cool Sport Seats in this car.
The compression numbers should be much higher than 175. Should be at 200-205 PSI on a 964.
I've had 3. 964's are 11.3-1 Compression ratio.
Also, a PORSCHE Classique radio is $1500 installed.
