Pairing a desirable G50 manual transmission with its air-cooled 3.6-liter flat-six, this 1991 Porsche 964 Carrera 2 Cabriolet comes finished in Coral Red Metallic over Cashmere Beige upholstery and features an optional limited-slip differential. Having spent time in Nevada, Arizona, and California, this Carrera benefits from a comprehensive engine rebuilt by the experts at European Car Specialist in Newport Beach, California, in 2022. This meticulously maintained 964 is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Arizona while showing less than 115k miles on the odometer.

This Carrera comes finished in Coral Red Metallic, a special-order color offered on this model for the 1991 model year. It rides on upgraded 17” Cup 2 wheels powder-coated black and wrapped in Continental Sport Plus tires from 2020 said to have been driven under 2k miles. Other modifications include red powder-coated brake calipers and a lowered ride height provided by H&R springs. The seller adds that a recent paint correction was carried out by the specialist Frank Mattingly in Orange County. Minor signs of road wear are noted on the front bumper and lower rear decklid area, along with some spider cracks on the rear bumper and rear center reflector. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

The cabin is appointed with Cashmere Beige upholstery contrasted with a black dashboard and upper door panels. Factory features include automatic climate control, automatic speed control, heated exterior mirrors & washer nozzles, and power-adjustable windows, mirrors, & seats. Aftermarket Coco floor mats have also been fitted and the dashboard top is said to have been removed for repair and will be reinstalled upon the sale. All gauges and electronics are reported to be working properly.

The air-cooled 3.6-liter M64 flat-six engine generates as much as 247 HP and 228 lb.-ft of torque. The rear wheels are driven through a G50 5-speed manual transmission and optional limited-slip differential (option #220). The seller notes that the engine underwent a meticulous rebuild completed in February 2022, approximately 2k miles ago, by technicians from European Car Specialists in Newport Beach, California. The process was led by an expert mechanic with prior experience assembling engines at the Porsche factory in Stuttgart and working with the factory racing team. Additionally, new Bilstein shocks and H&R lowering springs have been fitted. The seller adds that the entire undercarriage was dry ice-cleaned by I Am Detailing in Costa Mesa, CA, while the engine and transmission were out of the car. An accompanying invoice is provided in the gallery.

This sale will include a clean title, front protective bra, tonneau cover, warranty booklet, spare taillight lenses, original headlight trim rings, and some miscellaneous items.

The seller would like you to know: "This is my third air-cooled Porsche. I'm fanatical about these cars with the 964 being my favorite bocy style. I really wanted to spend the money on this update since the car with basically all there but needed some overall attention including engine rebuild. I feel this car will fit in at and C&C event and I can guarantee that with this color combination, you won't see yourself coming and going!"

Located a few more receipts including dry ice, tires, oil line replacement, new seat switch install, new cooling fan and new taillight assemblies. Also, note that the engine builder recommended replacing the lower magnesium valve covers with aluminum during rebuild, so we did.

  • Rdiehl1 (seller) 6 months, 2 weeksago

@eurocol Dry Ice receipt only appears on my credit card statement. The car was flat-bedded from engine mechanic's shopt to I Am Detailing and then flat-bedded back to engine mechanic. The cost of dry icing was $2,500.00.

  • Jeffe2020 (registered bidder) 6 months, 2 weeksago

Keep in mind that only 2,207 cabs were imported to US. Unfortunately, there's no breakdown (that I can find) showing the C2 and C4 split, but if you just split it 50/50, it makes it rare, especially in this color!

  • Rdiehl1 (seller) 6 months, 2 weeksago

Just uploaded a couple pics showing the new sill moulding rubber that we added on both sides.

For whatever it's worth, the Carbone vinyl "Tag" fender decals can be easily removed with a little heat. Put in sun for 15 mins, peel and voila!

@msobilo Absolutely, especially with the bra on it that I kept when I purchased it. As "80s" as they are, it would save you from all the bugs, etc.

Looks like a great car! I wish I was in the position to add this to my stable. I definitely want a 964 one day. Good luck with the auction.

  • Rdiehl1 (seller) 6 months, 3 weeksago

Hello, just wanted to introduce myself. My name's Robert and I'm a huge Porsche fan and proud PCA member. I bought this car at the start of Covid in spring, 2020. When I found it I knew it would be a perfect Covid project as I love to bring things "back to life" as I did with my previous 1985 Carrera. It started with little things like removing dents and dings, replacing rear window, windshield that was badly pitted, replacing frunk and hood struts, etc., then going all out and taking the plunge to have the entire engine rebuilt. The rebuild took nearly 14 months primarily due to my mechanic having a hard time getting parts out of Germany but we finally prevailed and I'm proud to say that he did a masterful job! It runs strong and is ready for the new owner to actually drive now that I've put on the break-in miles. Please reach out if you have any questions or need an additional photo or two. I'll be watching all week so should be able to respond fairly quickly. Thanks in advance for your interest.
