One of 158 Targa models produced for the model year, this 1990 Porsche 964 Carrera 4 Targa comes finished in the rare color of Dark Blue over a Marine Blue leather interior and features a 5-speed G50 manual gearbox paired with its 3.6-liter flat-six engine. It was sold new from Town North Porsche of Richardson, Texas, and remained under the original owner’s care up until the seller’s purchase in 2022. This 964 came with factory-optional supple leather seats and has been outfitted with a modern Porsche Classic (PCCM) stereo. It underwent a mechanical overhaul by Porsche of Dallas in 2021 and was named Regional Champion of the Porsche Classic Restoration Challenge the same year. Showing under 30k miles on the odometer, this outstanding 964 Targa is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Florida.

This 964 is finished in the rare nonmetallic color of Dark Blue or Dunkelblau (L347) and features a black Targa roll bar, a removable roof panel, a speed-activated rear spoiler, front fog lights, and 16” Design 90 alloy wheels. It rides on a set of Sumitomo HTR A/S P01 tires from 2021. The seller indicates some repair work was performed to the rear end in 2007 following an accident with another vehicle and the front end is preserved with clear paint protection film on the forward portions of the hood and fenders. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a repair invoice and a clean CARFAX report.

Inside, the cabin features Marine Blue (SX) leather upholstery including matching carpets and optional supple leather seats. Accessories include a leather-wrapped four-spoke steering wheel, automatic climate control, cruise control, power windows and mirrors, a central locking system, a sound system, a locking glovebox, and a quartz clock. Custom Porsche-crested floor mats have been installed along with a modern Porsche Classic Communications Management (PCCM) head unit featuring Bluetooth and navigation. The seller adds that the speedometer was repaired by Porsche of Dallas in 2021. All gauges and accessories are said to be fully functional.

An air-cooled 3.6-liter M64 flat-six engine delivers up to 247 HP and 228 lb.-ft of torque to all four wheels by way of a 5-speed G50 manual transaxle and an all-wheel-drive system with variable torque split. The car comes standard with force-sensitive power steering, power vented disc brakes with ABS, and stabilizer bars at the front and rear. A mechanical overhaul is said to have been carried out by Porsche of Dallas in 2021 which included a refurbishment of the cylinder and cylinder heads.

This sale will include owner’s manuals, a window sticker, a toolkit, a spare tire, and a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “I bought this car for my personal collection due to its rarity, mileage, and 1 owner status.  I'm downsizing my collection for personal reasons.  I'm also a low-volume classic car dealer so the car was purchased and will be sold through my dealership.”

@Sharkthecat the title is in the original owner's name, reassigned to my dealership. It will be reassigned from my dealership to the buyer. Very common practice accepted by all states. If a buyer would rather have me get a Florida title in my Dealership name to transfer I will do that. In that case Carfax would see the buyer as the 3rd owner. If I transfer the original owner's title to buyer Carfax will list buyer as owner #2.

  • Sharkthecat (registered bidder) 1 yearago

Louisiana DMV is very tough on purchaser getting vehicle titled. Would this be a double transfer since you are a dealer in Florida and last title registration is from Texas? Just need a little background. Did you purchase from Titled owner from Name on front of title in your possession? Thank you.

@rak1161 I only know what I was told by the original owner's family. The car was driven frequently in its early life, parked in parking lots, time outside in the hot Texas sun, etc... front bumpers, hoods and front fenders can accumulate a lot of paint damage in the course of 25k+ miles and 16 years. There was no airbag deployment that I'm aware of. I assume the windshield was damaged for some time and they decided to replace it while everything else was being done. Again, I don't know for sure but I would welcome anyone to inspect this car. Whatever work was done was done at a very high quality level.

  • LewCM (seller) 1 yearago

@Sharkthecat I have put 225 miles on the car and did an oil and filter change in January 2023.

  • LewCM (seller) 1 yearago

@Sharkthecat yes. AC blows ice cold.

  • LewCM (seller) 1 yearago

@Sharkthecat I will go take some photos of the undercarriage and under the carpet in the trunk and post around 2pm EST.

  • rak1161 (registered bidder) 1 yearago

@LewCM Thanks for your response. From the 5-page body shop report it looks like a lot of work done to the front of the car — “front bumper, headlamps, hood, washer nozzles, windshield” etc. Seems like a lot more than paintwork (which I would be fine with).

  • Sharkthecat (registered bidder) 1 yearago

No CarFax reports/description on any service/repair/oil change etc. done since 3/23/22. Have you done anything since your purchase?

  • Sharkthecat (registered bidder) 1 yearago

Any pics of the Frunk (and under carpet) and underneath? Does everything work and A/C blows cold? Thanks.

  • gclaym (registered bidder) 1 yearago

I own four low milage 964's and three of them have had odometer issues - I'm not an expert but I think its pretty common

  • LewCM (seller) 1 yearago

Hello. All I know is what I was told by the son in law of the original owner who had passed away. There was minor damage to the rear bumper and fender and at that time they decided to have other chips, dings, etc… taken care of and other aesthetic work done. The car had sat for 10 years before the mechanical work was done. Based on what I was told about the extent of the body work and mechanical reconditioning at a Porsche dealership they were likely sold repairs the car didn’t need and overcharged. It happens. I can’t speak to the speedometer other than that it was repaired not replaced. I have a collection of Porsches and know them well. This is a very good and rare example that has received a level of restoration that makes it a virtually new car. It has been gone through by experts who confirm that. If paint work and mechanical restoration cause discomfort this car is not for you. To me it’s a plus as most 964’s have had paint work at this point and the full mechanical refresh will save a lot of $ down the road.

    Beautiful car.
    Two questions:
    1. also would like to know a bit about the extent of the accident in 2006 (@Speedj1). Body shop receipts suggest it was pretty extensive and expensive.
    2. From the Park Place service done in Aug 2020 it shows that the odometer was broken and needed to be replaced. Any sense for how long it was broken and how that may have affected current mileage showing on the repaired odometer?
    Thanks
