Up for auction is this 1990 Porsche 964 Carrera 2 finished in Black over a Cashmere Beige and Black leather interior with contrast seat piping. Equipped with genuine 17” Fuchs wheels, Bilstein HD shocks, an upgraded exhaust, and other tasteful modifications, this Carrera is a true stand-out amongst others. Having had a brand-new 3.6 L flat-six replacement engine installed by a Porsche dealership within the last 15k miles, this customized 1990 example now shows just over 83k miles and is being offered in fantastic driving condition by its seller out of California.
The factory specified Black finish is stated to be in excellent condition with some minor signs of road-going wear. The paint is reported to be almost entirely original except for the front windshield cowl which was has been refinished to address a small blemish. Visual modifications include Cult Werks front splitters and genuine 17” Fuchs wheels with new Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 tires installed within the last 3k miles. The factory set of D90 wheels are also included in the sale.
The Cashmere Beige and Black leather interior is said to be in very nice condition except for some slight wear on the driver’s seat and a minor blemish on the passenger's side headliner. Factory options include a sunroof, cruise control, amplifier, and 8-way electrically adjustable front seats with contrast piping. The speedometer lens bulb and gear have been replaced along with the coil and capacitors for the tachometer, the 2 interior HVAC blower motors, and the A/C compressor. An aftermarket Nakamichi stereo is currently installed and the seller confirms all gauges and accessories to be fully functional.
This Carrera 2 is equipped with an air-cooled 3.6L flat-six engine paired with a 5-speed G50 manual transmission. 247 HP stock is sent to the rear wheels providing for a 0-60 time of approximately 5 seconds and a top speed of over 160 MPH. Performance upgrades include Bilstein HD shocks with H&R Green lowering springs, a GT2 EVO strut brace, a muffler bypass cup pipe, and Fabspeed Sport catalytic converter. Following some persistent oil leaks discovered in the original motor, a genuine M64 replacement engine was imported from Germany and installed by an authorized Porsche dealer in August of 2004 at 68,600 miles. Approximately 15k miles have been driven since, and the car is said to be in excellent running order with the following items addressed at the corresponding intervals:

@Yopurp Climate Control Blower Motor. It moves when you brake or accelerate it makes a noise. Still works but sound is annoying. It’s common and not hard to replace.
@jaynar What is the blower motor? What does it have to do with acceleration and braking?

Saw the car in person owner is a cool guy! From what I could tell the car didn’t leak a single drop. The car drove great. Few issues were the blower motors made this terrible screeching sound every time you accelerate or brake...paint metered it. Pretty consistent all over except parts of driver’s door and passenger quarter panel as well as windshield cowel which had the dreaded rust bubble repaired. Over the car is in amazing condition and the wheels look awesome! AC is cold.

@Sunny_GT3 Your assumption is correct; this is not a numbers matching engine. With respect to your question regarding "...as good as a numbers matching one," that is open to debate. Numbers matching engines tend to be more desirable for collectors. On the other hand, these engines had an original design flaw that caused them to leak excessive amounts of oil. That was typically corrected by either rebuilding the existing engine or replacing it with a complete engine from Porsche. An advantage to this car is that this issue had been addressed and it has an engine with only 15,000 miles.
With the engine replaced, I’m assuming this is non-numbers matching. Is the replacement engine (because it came directly from Porsche) as good as a numbers matching one?

@uliner Yes, the car passed CA smog on Feb. 19, 2020 with the current exhaust. BTW, the original Cat is included with the sale in the event that the new owner wants to reinstall it.
So with the current exhaust and cat that’s on the car now, would this be able to pass CA smog?
I know this car and the owner. He is a detail oriented enthusiast who maintains it carefully.
I am not a 964 expert, but this is the nicest high-end 964 "everyday driver" that I've seen.

@Charlie83 , both rear brakes have the upgraded 993 calipers. The car got new brake pads and rotors in front and rear in March 2019 at 79,700 miles. Genuine Porsche parts from the dealer were used. I meant is there only 1 rear brake caliper that was changed?
Hi do you know when the brake pads were replaced? Looks like one of them are newer? Also I live not too far away can I schedule an In person inspection?
@Fresnofile , In reviewing the invoice from Porsche of Nashua, NH when they replaced the engine, I do not see any reference to replacing the fuel lines. It indicates that the oil cooler line and miscellaneous other things were replaced but no mention of fuel lines.
Were the fuel lines replaced when the motor was replaced?
twallc4, the tires don't rub the fenders. There's a bigger gap than it appears in the photo. The space between the tires and the fender is about 1 inch in the rear and 1.5 inches in the front. Regarding the support brackets, there are a series of underbody panels that run the full length of these cars. At some point, the rear underbody (engine undertray) was removed. It's common to see 964's with this configuration, but if you google underbody images, you'll see that a rear underbody panel could be mounted to these brackets. Thanks for the questions.

Couple of questions, photo 65 back tires look very close to fender opening is there any tire rubbing on it, it looks so close. Also photo 73 there appears to be an unconnected support bracket just hanging there, not attached to anything also there looks to be freshly cut steel tubing at top of photo do you know what that’s all about?
