In 1989, Porsche introduced the 944 S2 Cabriolet, marking the first time the 944 model was available in a convertible body style. Presented in Linen Grey Metallic over Linen upholstery, this 1990 Cabriolet example was also optioned with 8-way power front seats in leather, driver’s seat lumbar support, a Hi-Fi sound system, and additional amplifier, cruise control, air conditioning, antilock brakes, and more. Showing under 16k miles on the odometer, this S2 is now being offered for auction once again on PCARMARKET by its seller out of New York.
This example is finished in Linen Grey Metallic with a black convertible soft top and rides on 16” forged “manhole cover” wheels dressed in Hankook Ventus S1 Noble tires from 2019. Exterior features include distinctive pop-up headlights, integrated front fog lights, rear Porsche lettering, and black rock guards placed ahead of the rear fenders. The seller describes the exterior to remain in excellent original condition with a few minor cosmetic imperfections, as depicted in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.
The interior features Linen upholstery with 8-way power seats, driver’s lumbar support, and leather front seats with leatherette side and rear trim. Optional equipment also includes a Hi-Fi sound system with an additional amplifier, cruise control, air conditioning, and an alarm system. A Blaupunkt AM/FM/cassette stereo is equipped as standard. All gauges, electronics, and accessories are reported to be in proper working order.
Power comes from a naturally aspirated 3.0-liter inline 4-cylinder engine delivering 208 HP and 207 lb.-ft of torque, driving the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual transmission. Braking is handled by fixed 4-piston ventilated discs, with an optional Anti-lock Braking System (ABS). The seller notes recent service in July 2022 at 14,800 miles included the replacement of the timing and balance shaft belts, accessory belts, a new battery, and engine mounts. Additionally, all fluids were replaced within the last 1,500 miles.
This sale will include a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: "The S2 is the last and best (in my opinion) 944 to drive, with only around 2400 Convertibles coming to North America it is a relatively rare Porsche model. An outstanding example of a very low mile and very original 944 S2 Cabriolet. It performs and feels close to new. It is also a 15k-mile car that has been serviced up to date and is ready to be enjoyed."

Here is the link to all the photographs and videos available of the 944, picture resolution may be higher than what is uploaded on Pcar and there may be some extra pictures:

Hopefully this can help you and everyone else in assessing the car.
@JAB18 - I appreciate the interest and bids.
This car is original paint - without any doubt - the paint meter readings verify that as well.
As I stated previously the quarters panels and fenders are rounded - the door is flat - they reflect light differently because of that and give the illusion that the shade is different in photographs.
If you plan on bidding to win I can FaceTime you tomorrow late morning with the car and go over all the paint.
Between the pictures and videos one can get a very good idea of the overall condition of the 944.
I have owned many Porsche cars over the years - this is an outstanding, completely original, very low mileage example of a 944 S2 Cabriolet. Will be difficult to find a car that is comparable to this one at any price.
I stand behind all I have stated above.
@JAB18 - stone guards can be removed with minimal effort.
Seller - Can you verify all original paint? The driver’s rear quarter appears a completely different shade than the door? I’m trying to look if it’s lighting but doesn’t appear so. Thank you.
I’m really hoping the black stone guards can be taken off and back to clear (original). I can’t believe how much they deter from the lines of this car. Awful. Otherwise a beautiful car.
Original wheel locks are also with the car.

@993collector - I appreciate the wishes.
@PaulLittell -
Appreciate the kind words and many questions - 944 S2 and 968 cars are fun to drive and provide a unique driving experience.
- This car is all original paint - it has never had any body repair or touch up - what you are seeing in some of the pictures is a difference in shade is due to the lighting and panel structure (doors are flat - quarters and fenders are not).
- Glove box hinges on 944 and 968 cars fragile and almost always break - I cannot take credit for what was invented as a solution as it was done by the PO. I agree this may be the lowest mile S2 with a failed hinge.
- That is a crease in the convertible top cover not a tear - it is in excellent condition and will try to get a picture of it.
- There is an outline posted of all the mechanical work done to it by the PO at a Porsche dealer - all work listed was done.
- These wheels are forged were an upgrade over the standard design 90 wheels which were cast aluminum.
How long have you owed the car?
- I bought it in January 2024.
What is the noise a 1:03 in the driving video?
- Idle fluctuation.
Do you have convertible top retaining wrenches?
- Yes.
Have you tried to polish rear window?
- I have not - a detailer who is proficient in plastic should be able to get it close to perfect.
Photo of driver’s side carpet under floor mats
- Will try to get you one.
The gas cap lid speaks to the overall quality and longevity of what appears to have been a paint job.
- Car is original paint as stated - picture of the gas cap is to show an imperfection - at some point something got on it and lifter a small piece of the clear coat - it is a plastic cover so easily removable and fixable if one wanted to make it perfect.
Do you have other service or paint records?
- What is pictured is included.
Can I inspect and drive the car?
- Yes.
If there is anything else that comes to mind that I can answer let me know.

Hello my friend best of luck with the auction. If the car doesn’t sell let’s reconnect for a discussion.
Bid in the amount of $2,944
Bid in the amount of $2,194
Also, do you have an actual invoice for the belts, rollers and other work done in 2023?
Many thanks again
Very nice looking 944. I’ve had 2 cabs like this and 1 968 cab. I miss them.
In several photos there appears to be a paint variation between the doors and the rear quarters. Is this just natural light, or has there been a partial repaint? Sorry, I’ve never been much for reading paint thickness gauges.
Pic #48 Nice trick for a glove box door bracket replacement. A real weak spot in the car but I think you set a low mileage record, and a nice solution for it.
Pic #76 Can you supply an alternate closeup of the top boot? It looks here like there is a tear or crease in the middle.
I’ve never seen wheels like this before. Can you give some background on them?
Thank you.

@Toys1955 - You are welcome - appreciate the interest.
Thank you again seller :)
@Toys1955 - You are welcome.
- Tools, spare and compressor are present.
- Clock and display are perfect (you can see the display in some of the pictures and also in the picture of the center console with the parking light illumination on).
Hi again, thanks for answering my questions. Didn’t see the spare, tools or air pump. Are the present with the car? Also didn’t see any pics of the digital clock, is it working and is screen clear? Thanks
@Toys1955 - Black stone guards were done by PO - I happen to like them as the black contrasts well with all the other black accents on the car - easy and inexpensive to change back to clear.
- No reason to have damage under the stone guards.
- Belt service was done at Porsche dealer - they deemed there was no need to replace the water pump - car had around 14,800 miles at the time. Belts were done as preventive maintenance due to age of rubber - same logic does not apply to the water pump.
- Rear window is original - it is ok in person (same as what you see in the pictures) can probably be improved a bit if polished.
- Drives and performs as it did when new - no issues or needs.
- Thanks for the wishes.
Hi, not sure why anyone would put black stone guards on this car BUT they are there. Is there damage underneath guards that you know of? Also not sure why anyone would do belts and not do water pump. Any info on that? Rear convertible plastic window doesn't look as nice as I thought it would. How is it in person? Anything that would need to be addressed before a long drive home? Thanks for your time and GLWA.
@nobrakes - all the cabriolet cars did not have a rear emblem from the factory - all the coupes did.
@montecarlobeach - thank you for the positive feedback.
A client of mine has been searching for an S2 to do an LS swap (he already has an LS coupe). In our search I find many of these 1990 S2 cabs did not have a trunk emblem, while some had the 944S2 others 944S with the 2 below the S. I wonder what determined that, if it was an add or a delete?
Be still, my beating heart. Gorgeous. It would be hard to find another like it. Good luck, seller, and congratulations (eventual buyer).
