For the 1987 model year, Porsche’s 928 grand touring car underwent its most significant evolution yet with the introduction of the S4 model featuring an aerodynamically improved design and a new 5.0-liter V8 engine with four valves per cylinder. This 1989 example is finished in Black over a Cashmere Beige interior. It equips optional supple leather seats, a 4-speed automatic transmission, an electric sunroof, 16” forged wheels, and an original Blaupunkt radio. This 928 was inherited by the seller from its previous owner who meticulously maintained the car while keeping it garage-kept. A lifelong California car, this 928 S4 is now being offered for auction with approximately 65k miles on the odometer.
Compared to earlier 928 models, this S4 version received new aerodynamic bodywork including a more rounded nose with a modified front spoiler and integrated driving lights as well as an underbody tray, larger taillights, and a raised black polyurethane rear spoiler. This example is finished in Black and rides on factory 16” flat disc “manhole cover” forged wheels dressed in older Pirelli tires. Equipment includes pop-up headlights with washers, integrated front fog lights, body-colored side moldings, a rear window wiper, and an electric sunroof. The seller notes some clear coat is peeling from a corner of the rear bumper and the exterior underwent a recent paint correction. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.
Inside, this 928 S4 features a Cashmere Beige interior with optional supple leather seats, matching carpets, and a black dashboard, center console, and leather four-spoke steering wheel. Other accessories include power-adjustable front seats, power windows and mirrors, cruise control, automatic climate control, rear seat air conditioning, a central locking system, a digital clock, an onboard computer, a locking glovebox, a sound system, and an original Blaupunkt Reno SQR 46 radio. The seller notes some adhesive is present on the instrument cluster and all gauges and accessories remain fully functional.
This 928 S4 is equipped with a naturally aspirated 5.0-liter DOHC V8 engine rated at 320 HP and 317 lb.-ft of torque. The rear wheels are driven by way of a 4-speed automatic transmission and stopping power comes from fixed 4-piston brakes and ventilated discs at each corner. The seller indicates the car was personally maintained by its previous owner and no service records are available. The battery was recently replaced, and the CARFAX report shows an emissions inspection performed in 2022 as well as a long history of service at Porsche Walnut Creek.
This sale will include a toolkit, a spare tire, an air pump, a car cover, and a clean title. The CARFAX report shows a potential odometer rollback which may have resulted from a clerical error, and the seller contests that the car’s mileage is original.
The seller would like you to know: “Hello everyone! This is my 1989 Porsche 928 S4, I inherited the car about a year ago from a family friend. This car was his pride and joy, he meticulously maintained the car himself. The car was always garaged with only 65k original miles. It has been sitting for about a year, the car has had a paint correction and a new battery installed in preparation for sale. Feel free to ask me any questions and I will answer them to the best of my knowledge. Happy bidding!”

@Dluxor1 - it's really the 2020 service we would need deets on. If 2018, 6 years, it's due again per Porsche's new 5 year recco (up from 3).
@Dluxor1 - no one is doubting the car wasn't cared for. But - with this car - big $ w/ a failed belt. So it's simply a "drive risk" vs. "trailer cost" equation. And, if the owner was ill and not using it, could see a "not driving it so no need" scenario.
Those records were lost unfortunately due to his unexpected passing. I will reach out to Porsche of Walnut Creek to see if they can provide me a summary of the work that was done. Like I stated, the car was his pride and joy anything that needed to be done when it was taken in for service was taken care of.
Dear Seller,
Nice 928.
As being One Family owned vehilcle, one would expect that documents such as owners manual and service records be with the car/owner.
Were they handed over to you or perhaps lost due to sudden circumstances?
If you could get at least summary of service history from Porsche Dealer, that would be immensely helpful.
Sincerely,
@Dluxor1 - do we have record of when the last timing belt and water pump service were? That's the determiner - really - on truck home or drive home. Interference engine. Huge $$$ issue if the belt gives. Do the tires have a date code? They are either REALLY old or fairly new since the repro on these has only been around for a couple years I believe.

Hello, car last passed smog in 2022. The registration expired in February of 2022. He became sick right around this time and passed away in early 2023 where the car sat at his home for around a year until the home was sold, at which time a new battery was installed and it was driven a short distance in which everything seemed to drive fine. Like with any 36 year old car I would recommend an inspection by a professional mechanic before getting in and driving it that kind of distance. Tires do hold air just fine, would recommend change just because of age.
@woodrm64 I will double check but I believe 1 key is all I have for the car
Pretty car. I had a new 928 in 1988.
Is car currently licensed and registered? And smogged.
Is it drivable from SF to LAX?
Any mechanical conditions or driving issues that you are aware of? Please and thanks.
Are tires old and cracked but holding air - meaning you are suggesting tire replacement just because of age and lack of use, yes?
Is this still a daily driver or not?
And are they "red" or "black" keys?
@Dluxor1 - AND another question - how many keys do your have?
Hello @woodrm64 I will be posting a driving video shortly, no warnings on the dash radio and ac work. The pod I believe has some sort of adhesive on it(not sure if it had a mat on top for glare). I will have to double check but tires are I’m sure older would recommend replacement just because of age, no major visible leaks underneath. Unfortunately I don’t have access to a lift for pictures underneath, has been a California car it’s whole life there is no rust on the car whatsoever.
Bid in the amount of $6,250
And @Dluxor1, I believe the "pod" question is what you see in picture #87. The round "pod" above the instrument panel.
Are there any warning lights on the dash? Could you post a driving video? And some pictures of the underside of the car on a lift?
What are the date codes on the tires? Are there any leaks under the car or maintenance that is required that you are aware of?

Thank you for information few more things radio works and AC is working
I do not have any records showing timing belt or clutch replacement, it was serviced primarily at Walnut Creek Porsche and was maintained meticulously by our family friend(he was an engineer and very particular about the car). Perhaps calling Porsche of Walnut Creek the could provide further info as to what was done. The issue with the carfax stems from a tech inputing the wrong mileage on carfax when it went in for service. I will post some driving videos shortly car seems to shift properly.
Dluxor1@
