With 2,104 examples built in total, the 1989 Porsche 911 Speedster celebrates Porsche heritage with unique bodywork harkening back to the original 356 Speedster of the 1950s. It features a lightweight design, a short steeply raked windscreen, and a distinctive double-hump tonneau cover behind the seats. This example is one of 823 Speedsters delivered to the United States and has received a custom 962-spec turbocharged engine build along with steel RSR fender flares, modular BBS wheels, and racing-style interior upgrades. Said to have remained with the same owner for over 30 years, this one-of-a-kind Speedster is now being offered for auction by its seller out of California with just over 36k miles showing on the odometer.
This 911 has been fitted with a set of steel RSR front and rear fender flares to accommodate lightweight BBS modular wheels measuring 17”x9” in front and 17”x12” in the rear. The car is finished in Guards Red and sports a custom front bumper with dual driving lights and dive planes as well as a 930 Turbo rear spoiler to house the intercooler. The seller describes the finish to be in very good overall condition apart from minor chips on the leading edges of the fenders, a hairline paint crack on the right rear quarter panel, and some black paint separation on the windscreen. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.
The black interior of this example has been lined with custom German square weave carpeting and fitted with RS door panels along with an integrated roll bar, an Alcantara-wrapped MOMO steering wheel, drilled pedals, and a pair of Recaro bucket seats with Schroth safety belts. All gauges and accessories are said to remain fully functional.
The air-cooled 3.2-liter flat-six is said to have been rebuilt to Porsche 962 specs by Neil Harvey of Performance Development. The engine features Mahle 95mm pistons and cylinder liners, Carrillo rods, twin-plug 962 cylinder heads with custom studs, a performance camshaft, a full-width intercooler, individual throttle bodies, and a Garrett turbocharger with dual 44mm wastegates. Other features include a fully sequential EFI system with a CDI dual channel ignition, 3ml spec wiring, a high-volume fuel pump, a 962 oil pump, and a custom stainless steel exhaust system with full merge collectors. The seller reports a dyno-tested output of 742 HP and 860 lb.-ft of torque is sent to the rear wheels through a 5-speed G50 manual transmission. Other performance upgrades include heavy-duty CV joints, a high-performance clutch, oversize Brembo brakes, adjustable Bilstein shocks, custom sway bars, adjustable links, and a strut tower cross brace. The seller states that approximately 1,500 miles have been driven since the engine was built.
This sale will include a clean title.

@Manpot This Porsche has been a CA car its entire life and is currently registered here in California. It has no problems passing smog.

How does this pass smog in California?
I should clarify, the engine block in this Porsche is the original block and was modified to 926 specs.
If anyone has questions about the car please feel free to reach out any time.
Man, this is one hell of a car you have here Colleen. All the best.
Licence plate should say
OUTLAW.
A tremendous vote of confidence for Neil Harvey and Performance Developments as Porsche engine builders. He is one of the very best and delivers premium results having cut his teeth in F1 with Bernie Ecclestone, Gordon Murray, Brabham. No association with the seller (not my cup of tea) but very happy PD engine owner.

@JohnBlackyoldtimer This 1989 Speedster had the engine built to 962 specs by Neil Harvey of Performance Development. Mahle 95mm air cooled 962 pistons are matched with 95mm Mahle 962 air cooled cylinder Liners and topped off with twin Plug 962 ported cylinder heads with a cylinder to head “O” ring sealing system. Custom head studs help keep the compression in the right place while custom exhaust studs and an equal-length 321 Stainless exhaust system with full merge collectors drive the turbo! A full width inter-cooler cools the incoming air while a Garrett Turbo Charger with dual 44.00mm waste gates delivers a variable boost. 127.00mm Carrillo “H” beam rods are mated with a 74.40mm crankshaft, good for 3.2 liters. A carbon fiber inlet manifold and a unique plenum system feeds 6-individual butterfly throttle bodies. 52.00 intake valves and 42.50 exhaust valves open thanks to a performance camshaft while a fully sequential EFI system with a CDI dual Channel ignition offers the driver adjustable multi-boost and multi fuel maps via dash switches. The engine wiring, the dash harness, the main chassis harness and engine harness are all 3ml spec. A high volume fuel pump feeds the system and a 962 oil pump keeps it lubricated. The well sorted 3.2 liter single turbo combines with an 8.5 – 1 compression ratio that has been dyno tested at 742 hp with 860 ft/lbs of torque. A high performance clutch hooks the power up to the Getrag G50 5-speed transaxle and heavy duty CV joints while oversize Brembo brakes haul it down from any speed and front brake air scoops cool the front rotors. An exhaust temp and turbo boost gauge help monitor the systems.
Hi another question, is the factory sticker under the hood still there? Thanks.
Hi, very interesting speedster. What is original on the vehicle and what has been changed? Or has almost everything changed?
convert back to stock.
@delanodp Yes, I did not notice the hood until after we had filmed. But we have already adjusted it.
Cool Cali build. Just a tip for reference, your build quality and credibility of the quality of the car would be much higher if you would adjust the height of the frunk lid. It looks almost open (not latched) in the driving videos... Beautiful car.
2300-2400 lbs with 700+ whp is crazy amazing!

Finally a Speedster that lives up to its name. Shame on Porsche for not offering a turbo Speedster.
