Available for auction is this 1989 Land Rover Defender 90 Diesel finished in white over a black leather interior. The successor to the Land Rover Series III, the Defender 90 carried over much of the bodywork and running gear from its predecessor while offering big improvements including permanent four-wheel-drive, coil spring suspension, an updated cabin, and more. This 1989 example was imported from Brazil and features the desirable 2.8-liter TGV turbo diesel inline-four mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. It is now being offered for auction by its seller out of North Carolina while showing approximately 147k kilometers (91k miles) on its odometer.
Named for its short 90” wheelbase, the Defender 90 shared much of its styling with the Series III which it replaced but can be distinguished by its revised grille and hood, and wheel arch extensions. This example is finished in white with grey graphics on each side. Features include diamond plating on the front fenders, alpine windows, rear mud flaps, and steel side steps. It rides on a set of black finished 15” steel wheels which come dressed in 31” Adventuro AT3 tires.
The cabin is upholstered in black leather with matching carpets, door panels, and diamond plate flooring in the cargo area. Amenities include roll-up windows, air conditioning, and a JVC radio head unit. The seller confirms that all gauges, electronics, and accessories remain functional.
Power is provided by a 2.8-liter TGV turbo-diesel inline-four, which drives all four wheels by way of a 5-speed manual transmission, a dual-range transfer case, and a center locking differential. The Defender 90 features coil spring suspension which helped to provide improved off-road ability, load capacity, handling, and ride comfort when compared with its predecessor. Additional photos of the undercarriage can be found in the gallery.
This sale will include a clean title.

@69Vairman Look at the odometer. The order of the test drives were out of order in the video. You will see the lower mileage drive was just after cold start and before temp had increased. The other drive shows more miles and temp had increased from the bottom.
What is the actual odometer at. Video and still photos show 130K but ad says 147. Any chance the injectors are leaking? That was a lot of black smoke at startup. With low miles, it shouldnt be mechanical.
Was the video two separate drives? First drive the temp gauge was just above cold. 2nd drive it was pegged at the bottom.
