The Porsche 911 Carrera Commemorative Edition (CE) was debuted in 1988 celebrating 25 years of the Porsche 911 as well as the 250,000th model produced. Finished in special Diamond Blue Metallic paint over Silver Blue Metallic leather, the 911 CE features signatures of Dr. Ferdinand Porsche embroidered on the headrests and a 3.2-liter flat-six paired with a G50 manual gearbox. Of the 875 examples produced, 300 were imported to the United States of which only 80 were Targa models. The seller acquired this example from the previous owner in San Diego, California, who reportedly obtained the Targa from the owner of California Westy's. A lifetime West Coast car, this rare Commemorative Edition is now being offered for auction showing approximately 176k miles on the odometer.

The CE features a unique Diamond Blue Metallic (F5) paint color along with a front spoiler, integrated fog lights, a black-finished Targa band, a removable black roof panel, a model designation deletion, and heated power-adjustable side mirrors. A set of 16” Fuchs wheels featuring polished centers have been fitted with Hankook Ventus S1 Noble2 tires driven less than 300 miles. The seller notes the luggage compartment rubber seal shows slight warping. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

The cabin features special Silver Blue Metallic supple leather upholstery with “F. Porsche” signatures embroidered on the headrests. The Commemorative Edition also receives a specialized dash badge and short-throw gear shift lever. Amenities include power-adjustable front seats, air conditioning, and power windows. A 930-style steering wheel has been installed along with an Alpine stereo and upgraded Kicker speakers. Slight cracking is present on the dashboard and the seller notes the fuel gauge intermittently misreads when filled above halfway.

The rear wheels are driven through a 5-speed G50 manual gearbox paired with an air-cooled 3.2-liter flat-six engine producing up to 217 HP. Noteworthy service items include transmission work in 2019 with a new clutch kit, slave cylinder, clutch BRG guide, pilot bearing, clutch lever bearing, and shift bushing. Engine work during the same year consisted of new spark plugs, valve cover gaskets, oil cooler hoses, an oil line, engine timing chain gasket and tensioners, new cam dowel pins, crankshaft seal, crankshaft O-rings, fuel pump, fuel sender unit, fuel filter, and DME relay. Other maintenance items include the replacement of the passenger window motor and front and rear brake pads. The seller adds that corresponding service invoices are included from Performance Independent Porsche, Griffin's Auto Repair, Poway Auto Repair, Sherman Heights Auto Repair, and Koncept Motorwurks.

The seller wants you to know: "This car is in fantastic running order!"

I missed the end of this auction unfortunately, however, I certainly thought the bidding would go higher given the way this unique commemorative edition color
I know there's high mileage , however sure is a good looking Targa if you ask me
    good luck all

  • cuec (seller) 1 year, 9 monthsago

@73tiguy Yes a leak down was done less than 3,000 miles ago by Griffin's in San Diego.
    #1 10%, #2 12%, #3 12%, #4 10%, #5 8%, #6 8%. The engine is strong especially for the miles. Make a reasonable offer!

  • 73tiguy (registered bidder) 1 year, 9 monthsago

wow - RNM. the asking price is probably a tad high given the the mileage. Also were there any leak down or compression numbers available?

I was just privately messaged for driving videos. Here are a couple. Very little interior noise, easily the quietist Targa I have driven.

  • cuec (seller) 1 year, 9 monthsago

@Damaho912 You are right, it is "SILVERBLUE METALLIC LEATHER / RZ" Pcar just corrected me. So, Yes it is metallic!

  • Damaho912 1 year, 9 monthsago

Love the color! I’m a silver guy and when variations of silver come along, I just start drooling. The diamond blue metallic is gorgeous! Re: the interior, am I reading that correctly? Silver Blue Metallic? Metallic?

One of my favorite Porsche’s,. back in the day, was my 1983 TARGA
This is certainly a handsome and interesting later model Targa with the preferred G 50 transmission and commemorative addition as well.
Very clean, California car, great color combinations well maintained not much else you could want from an older Porsche Targa
    Good luck all

  • cuec (seller) 1 year, 9 monthsago

@SilverRose I don't know for certain and the prior owner did not know. I would personally think it has because of the lack of patina and pebble or paint chips for the mileage.

  • SilverRose (registered bidder) 1 year, 9 monthsago

@cuec - has the car ever been repainted?

  • cuec (seller) 1 year, 9 monthsago

@MpPorsche Your are correct, the chrome on the wheels is not perfect. I had them plasti-dipped in flat black leaving the petals in chrome and in my opinion they looked much better that way and any flaws in the chrome were hidden. I had the plasti-dip removed for the sale in order to not hide anything. I would me more than willing to discuss having the wheels re-dipped for the buyer if they so choose. Unfortunately I do not have the original 15's. The Targa top is in fantastic shape (link to pictures of top in earlier response) and the wind noise is minor at 70+ mph. I have taken phone calls at +80. I will be back in town tomorrow and I will post video from driving inside with top on if rain lets up.

  • MpPorsche (registered bidder) 1 year, 9 monthsago

Can you comment on the Fuchs. The chrome appears to be delaminating from the rims? Do you have the original 15 inch wheels that came with the car? How much noise do you have inside with the top on at 70 mph?
    thanks

@Richbob Absolutely. As stated above it is the rubber smile in front of the luggage compartment. It is NOT a dent or bend in the frunk lid. I believe it is from the trickle charger cable pressing down on the rubber seal during prior ownership or just warping. The seals around the frunk are good and I have not had any problems with leaking.

  • Richbob (registered bidder) 1 year, 9 monthsago

Can you talk about the frunk lid - it seems to have a gap on the driver side?

  • cuec (seller) 1 year, 9 monthsago

@Dmnccrps Thank you for the questions. The Targa top is in perfect condition! The Targa bar has some minor scratches (visible in photos) from prior owner putting top on and removing. She has no rust that I am aware, of at all. No rust on her body and I have not seen any rust any time I have been under her. I have included pictures of her floor boards under the front mats and in the frunk by the spare and there is no present rust, she has spent her life in road salt free SoCal. The transmission was rebuilt April 19, 2019 odo 173,178, less than 3k miles ago, by Poway (form Poway she was taken directly to Griffin's for engine work) and is very strong! https://imgur.com/XZOP8Yr this is a link to a cold start vid I did the other day. I will gladly take some driving videos, a better cold start video, and some pix of the Targa top as soon as the rain stops. In Southern California that is not a common phrase.

  • Dmnccrps (registered bidder) 1 year, 9 monthsago

@cuec thanks. Do you have cold start and driving videos? What is the condition of the targa top and photos? Synchro and rust?

  • cuec (seller) 1 year, 9 monthsago

@Dmnccrps Thanks for the question. Short answer is, no. On April 22, 2019 at 173,178 miles, when the car was brought to Griffin's in San Diego a leak down test was requested and showed that an engine rebuild was not necessary. At that point a valve adjustment was done as well as timing chain adjustment and tensioner o rings were replaced. Oil hoses were also replaced at that time as well as multiple gaskets (valve cover, timing chain housing, timing chain cover and crankshaft seals were replaced).

  • Dmnccrps (registered bidder) 1 year, 9 monthsago

    Has the engine been rebuilt?
