Up for auction is an exceptional 34K-mile (55K kilometer) 1988 Porsche 924 S.  Not often do you come across such a well-preserved piece of Porsche history.  This example was originally purchased from Norden Autohaus in Edmonton, Alberta before being sold to a family friend in 2002.  From then on, the car is said to have been sparingly driven and well-kept which led the current owner to purchase it just this year.  Having not been registered by the current owner, this  shows as a 2-owner vehicle and is currently being offered in exceptional condition with just 34k miles showing on the odometer.

The Guards Red paint is stated to be in exceptional condition.  With only minor signs of road going wear including a few rock chips on the original front windshield and a small scratch above the front bumper valance, it is clear that this was an incredibly well-cared for vehicle.  The seller states that the front passenger fender has been professionally resprayed due to a few scratches that occurred while the car was in storage.  A few key features of this 924 include a factory rear window wiper, tinted top windscreen, detachable roof panel, and power assisted steering.

Inside, you will find an extremely well-preserved black interior that features a factory 363mm 4-spoke steering wheel along with partial leather front seats and an original Blaupunkt head unit.  This 924 boasts a crack-free dashboard along with fully functioning electronics. This 924 is truly a rolling time capsule.

The 1988 924 S shares the same suspension, engine and braking system as the 1988 Porsche 944.  The 2.5L engine is capable of producing 156HP and is connected to a 5-speed manual rear-mounted transaxle that is said to shift with ease.  Service records dating back to new will be provided with the sale showing that the vehicle was well-maintained throughout its life.  Additionally, the current owner states that over $7,000 CAD was spent on service just this year including:

  • Oil/filter change
  • Hood shock replacement
  • Aluminum seal ring
  • New tires
  • Replacement of timing belt
  • Replacement of balance shaft belt
  • Transmission oil change
  • Coolant change
  • Brake fluid flush
  • New clutch and rear main seal
  • crankshaft seal
  • Exhaust hanger
  • New spark plugs

The vehicle is said to be in excellent running condition.

The sale will include all factory books, extensive service records, two sets of keys, air compressor, and tool kit.

  • Poormans_944 (seller) 5 years, 1 monthago

@alexdorval944 hello Alex, I remember meeting you at Cars and Coffee. Thanks so much for your enthusiasm, it’s very contagious. Oh ya, and beautiful 83 944 you own, great find....

  • alexdorval944 5 years, 1 monthago

One of the best example 924S I've seen. It is so rare to find one with a pristine interior, no cracks on the dash and leather seats. The engine bay look like it just drove out of the dealership. It's a time capsule. Unlike the 924, the 924s is Porsche through and through.

@jaurand hello and thanks for your question. Yes, it has the emissions sticker in the engine bay and is US compliant.

  • jaurand (registered bidder) 5 years, 1 monthago

Pormans 944, does this car have the EPA Emissions Standards sticker on the door jamb (or under the hood) for operation in the US?

  • Poormans_944 (seller) 5 years, 1 monthago

@912r @KG1500S thanks for the kind words gents. I’m really happy that everyone enjoyed the car during its time at cars and coffee. It’s such a fun car to talk about and created quite the buzz amongst the crowd.

  • 912R 5 years, 1 monthago

Having seen this car in person, it is as close as one can get to a brand new 924S without a time machine. I would feel guilty about driving it, it's that clean.

  • KG1500S 5 years, 1 monthago

Owner had this car out at a local cars and coffee event recently. The description of ‘rolling time capsule’ is very fitting. Want to win a preservation trophy at the next Parade concours? This car could be the vehicle. It is as outstanding as the pictures seem to show, probably better.

  • Poormans_944 (seller) 5 years, 1 monthago

@Alpine917 thanks for the comment. The last and best year. I love how this is a 1988 944 in a 924 body. A true piece of Porsche History.

  • Alpine917 5 years, 1 monthago

Neat car, under appreciated and often lumped together with earlier 70's 924. So many updates from 944 and faster too.

  • Poormans_944 (seller) 5 years, 1 monthago
