Up for auction is this 1987 Porsche 944 Turbo. Starting life in Southern California, this example was driven sparingly, eventually making its way to Michigan in the mid-1990’s. A clean bill of health and a few tasteful upgrades are just a couple of reasons this 944 presents an excellent value to prospective buyers. The car now shows 90k well-documented miles and is being offered for auction by its current owner out of California.
Finished in black, this 944 is stated to be in great cosmetic condition with only a few minor flaws present including a slight area of thin paint on the passenger door. The seller notes that the windshield was replaced in June of 2015 with an OEM part and receipts of the work performed will be included with the sale.
Bespoke to the 944, you will find design features such as an integrated front bumper, pop-up headlights, and a rear spoiler. Taking this 944 Turbo's already sporty presence to the next level is a set of upgraded 17” Porsche Cup-1 wheels (7 ½” X 9”) that wear Hankook Ventus V-12 EVO Tires tires with a good amount of tread remaining.
The Grey partial leather interior is stated to be in excellent condition showing only minor signs of age including a few cracks on the dashboard. The seller states that a recent A/C recharge has been performed ensuring cold-blowing air for the next owner. The seller also notes that an upgraded Blaupunkt head unit with USB input and new 4’'x6’' Blaupunkt speakers are currently installed and in excellent working order. A few noteworthy factory options on this 944 include power steering, power brakes, and a detachable electronic roof.
Powering this 944 is a 2.5L turbocharged in-line four-cylinder engine that sends power to the rear wheels via a desirable 5-speed manual transmission. This front-mounted engine setup allows for an almost perfectly balanced car, enabling increased handling capabilities. A Bosch 3.0 bar fuel regulator and waste gate shims are currently installed. According to the seller, this car is in excellent running condition and with all service up-to-date, is ready to be enjoyed by its next owner. Here is a list of recent maintenance items performed:
- Oil change
- Replaced front wheel bearings and control arms
- CAM Belt replaced, reseal of balance shaft and crank seals
- Fuel Filter
- Koni sport shocks installed on all four corners
- New front wheel bearing replaces and other repacked
- Brake flush
- New engine mounts
- New exhaust without catalytic converter
- Bosch 3.0 Bar Fuel Regulator, Smart Shim Waste gate shims
- Oil Change and Brake Flush
- Steering rack rebuilt and alignment
The sale will include the original owner’s manual, a clean Carfax report, two sets of keys, tool kit, and jack. As the 944 market continues to heat up, Turbo models such as this one are becoming increasingly difficult to find. Don't miss your opportunity to own a well-sorted example of one of the world's most popular sports car.

@Mfenny @Mfenny; would like to take a look this saturday if possible. Is there a way to contact you directly? or contact me?
@Mfenny @Mfenny; usually there is a second sticker that is attached. Do you know if this car has the limited slip differential option? possible to check?
how can I email you directly?
@Jigz997 The headliner is in very good condition, no sagging. I have not done a PPI or compression test on the engine. The engine does run strong and does not burn oil, I would think that the compression numbers are good but we could agree on a deal subject to a compression test.
Picture #48 also has the sticker with codes on the Warranty Voucher, that may answer your question.
As far as viewing the car, it is stored at a hanger at the Torrance Airport (Zamperini Field); I can make arrangements for you to see the car.
Thanks,
Matt
Do you know if the sticker code has the 5R or 5P on this particular car? The pic has the sticky in the central console but it looks like sun has it blocked out (pic #42).
Any delamination along the headliner? Any PPI results? Compression test #'s on the engine?
Paint all original? If car located in California, possible to view the car?
Offer in the amount of $13,400
@JBoxerGT2 Yeah, the car is definitely worth more than the bid price. Just not the right set of eyes on this auction. The odd thing is that another 1987 944 Turbo got bid up to $17,750 with only 6k miles less than mine and the guy wants more. I would have been happy with his bid.
It's crazy how a collector car insurance company who is not in the business to lose money will see the value in these cars and insure for $16k,$20k, or more. But people wont bid that high to buy a nice example.
@Thegarty I am the third owner. The car was originally purchased in Southern California by a doctor whom later moved to Michigan. I purchased it from the second owner in Saginaw, Mi on 12/30/2014. I have all the records and receipts for all the work I have done which is extensive
How many owners in total? The carfax doesn’t show much prior to 2015 - are the service records available?

@KayaknFly The car is titled in Michigan. I have the title in hand. Thanks!
Just to be sure.... the car is in California, but has Michigan plates and which state is it titled in?
I have seen the car and it is well maintained, spent most of its time in a garage, and is clean. The protective tape on the right rear wheel well can easily be redone (you can see it on the video)
Powerful and fun to drive and a real time capsule. Definitely recommended. Good luck to the high bidder!!

@nanj I replaced the timing belt and balance shaft seals in mid-2015, the car at 85,000 miles at the time. The clutch has always been good and i have not touched it. At that time I replaced the motor mounts, shock absorbers, control arms, front brakes and many other parts. I replaced the rear brakes in July of 2018. I had the air conditioning recharged last week. I'm pretty fastidious about my cars and want them to work perfectly!
Hi, any history/information on timing belt, balance belt, water pump, and clutch replacement?
Thanks!

Hi, I am the seller of this car. I purchased the car in December of 2014 and have enjoyed the car immensely. I have put a lot of work into the car over the past five years and needs nothing, the oil was changed and brake fluid flushed in September and not drive much afterward.
Please feel free to post any questions and I will respond. The reserve is set at a very reasonable amount and is priced to sell. Good Luck Bidding!
