Now available for auction is this 1986 Mercedes-Benz 420SEL finished in Smoke Silver Metallic over a Medium Red perforated leather interior. The flagship Mercedes-Benz sedan of the 1980s, this W126 S-Class marks the first year of the facelifted 4.2L V8-powered 420SEL. Having spent its entire life in Texas under the care of the original owner, this W126 has been preserved in great overall condition and with just over 24k-miles currently showing on the odometer. It was recently acquired by the seller who has carried out an oil and filter service in preparation for sale. With its remarkable build quality and timeless luxury, this 420SEL is now being offered for auction out of New York, accompanied by the original books and window sticker.
This S-Class is finished in Smoke Silver Metallic (702U) with original custom red pinstriping. The finish is noted to be in very good condition throughout with only minor road-going wear on the front bumper. Detailed images are provided in the photo gallery along with a clean CARFAX. This second-series W126 was debuted with smoother bumpers and side claddings as well as redesigned 15″ Gullideckel wheels. The wheels on this example retain their original finish and come dressed in Continental tires.
Inside, the cabin is trimmed in Medium Red perforated leather (277A) with matching carpets, decorative wood trim, and a black dashboard. The interior is said to be in excellent original condition having been preserved by window tint which was recently removed by the seller. The factory radio remains in place and is said to remain fully functional along with the air conditioning system and power accessories.
Power comes from a 4.2L M116 V8 engine that sends as much as 210 HP and 221 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels through a 4-speed automatic transmission. The seller has recently performed an oil and air filter service and reports this W126 to run, shift, and drive beautifully. CARFAX shows the last recorded service to have been carried out in 2020 by Mercedes-Benz of Boerne, TX.
This sale will include a set of two keys, original owner’s manuals, the original cassette holder, window sticker, first aid kit, and a clean title. Praised by some enthusiasts as the greatest S-Class of all time, this well-maintained and low-mileage W126 offers a fantastic opportunity for any European car collector.
