Available for auction is this 1987 Land Rover Defender 90 finished in Quantum Grey over a two-tone Garret Black Beuty and Torino Salsa interior. East Coast Automotive Design (ECD) is a Florida-based builder of high-end custom Land Rovers established in 2013. This 1987 example was completed by ECD for its previous owner at a reported cost of around $240k and features a 5.3L Chevrolet V8 engine, 18” wheels with BFGoodrich tires, an Alpine stereo, a custom diamond-stitched interior, and more. This Defender is now being offered for auction by its seller out of New Jersey while driven just under 6k miles since the restoration.
This short-wheelbase Defender is said to have been refinished in the current shade of Quantum Grey with Santorini Black accents on the roof, hinges, hood, and side vents. During the build process, the chassis was also coated in Raptor Lining. Details include LED headlights, a swing-away tire carrier, a mesh grill in black, and front and rear steel bumpers. It rides on a set of satin black 18” Khan 1983 dressed in BFGoodrich T/A All Terrain tires.
The cabin features Puma Classic front bucket seats and four inward-facing rear jump seats. The seats are custom upholstered in Garrett Black Beauty with diamond stitched inserts in Torino Salsa. The diamond stitching extends to the door panels inserts and black carpeting lines the floors. Amenities include a three-spoke MOMO Prototipo steering wheel, heated front seats, OEM Land Rover floor mats, a backup camera, power front windows, a backup camera, custom red-faced C.I “Classic” 5-piece gauges, and a custom Alpine stereo with JL Audio speakers as well as CarPlay and Bluetooth connectivity. The seller confirms that all garages, electronics, and accessories remain functional.
Power comes from a Chevrolet-sourced LC9 5.3L V8 engine equipped with a Borla dual Sport-Back exhaust system. All four wheels are driven by way of a 6-speed automatic transmission and a dual-speed transfer case. The builders at ECD Automotive Design claim acceleration from 0-60 MPH is achieved in less than 7 seconds and an efficiency rating of 18 MPG. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel disc brakes which have been upgraded with EBC brake pads.
