We are pleased to offer this exceptional low-mileage 1986 Porsche 944 5-speed finished in Guards Red over a black partial leather interior. The second half of the 1985 model year saw major updates for the 944 including a redesigned interior, increased oil sump capacity, and new cast alloy suspension components. This 944 was originally purchased from Metro Motors in Omaha, NE with desirable factory options including Sport Shock Absorbers and Stabilizers, Phone Dial wheels, and a 5-speed manual gearbox. Over $13k worth of cosmetic and mechanical refurbishment has also been recently performed including a full repaint, timing belt service, and water pump replacement. Now showing just over 5k original miles on the odometer, this show-quality 944 is being offered by its seller in Ohio accompanied by the original books, tools, window sticker, and a clean title.
In March of 2018, this 944 is said to have been completely refinished in its original color of Guards Red to maintain a like-new appearance (detailed images are provided in the photo gallery). Distinctive styling features include pop-up headlights, a large glass rear hatch, and factory 15” Phone Dial wheels that are currently wearing Pirelli tires dated from 2017. Other factory features include optional side protection moldings, a detachable roof panel, and front fog lights.
Inside, the black partial leather interior remains in excellent original condition. Compared with earlier versions, this 1986 example features a redesigned interior with an updated dashboard and door panels. All gauges and accessories are reported to be fully functional including the air conditioning, power windows, and the original dealer-installed Blaupunkt “New York” radio.
Power comes from a naturally aspirated 2.5 L inline 4-cylinder engine paired with a desirable 5-speed manual transaxle. Approximately 150 HP is produced at the rear wheels and this example has been optioned with factory Sport Shock Absorbers and Stabilizers for superior handling. As part of the over $13k worth of work carried out in 2018, this 944 received a timing belt service, water pump replacement, a new fuel tank sending unit, new engine mounts, camshaft seals, spark plugs, and a fresh battery. An invoice is included for the recent work and this Coupe is said to be in excellent mechanical order.
This sale will include 1 master key, the original window sticker, a custom-fit car cover, and the original books, tools, jack, and spare tire. Offered in exemplary overall condition while retaining all of its factory original specifications, this low-mileage 944 would be a highlight in any transaxle Porsche collection.

Seller, what kind of a dealer are you and are you able to help with shipping
Is reserve off?
So unfortunate that a 944 with such low mileage needed a repaint. It’s gonna take a value hit for that. It’s like when someone purchases an antique firearm and buffs it out to make it look new. Good intentions surely but destroys the value. If it was 60k plus mile car a repaint is appropriate and may ad value.
@jbelcredi Tires are 2017. All rubber and glass was removed - check out the receipt for the major service in 2017 as that shows details on both.
There is no overspray, no evidence of a repaint - it was done to a very high standard and appears factory original.
How old are the tires? Have you got the date code info?
Have you got any video of the engine running, car driving?
For the repaint, was all of the rubber / glass removed? Concerned about overspray on the rubber, any close up pics?

@dfheezy Ohio State Highway Patrol does not use unmarked cars. They are tough on enforcement but all cars are grey marked units, except for the white Tahoes which are commercial vehicle enforcement.

Remember to add the cost of a speeding ticket if you're leaving Ohio. That turnpike is like pirate's cove for unmarked cruisers.

@Ajverga It may not have needed it but somebody did it anyway to make it "perfect".
We've seen many people repaint single-stage paint cars because the finish was faded, not knowing that a proper detailing and "paint correction" would restore the color.
@tff It was repainted in single-stage
The 944 is still way undervalued IMO, one in this condition is going to be a steal for someone. Good luck to all!
@Ajverga @Ajverga. Porsche (and VW/Audi) Guards Red is notorious for fading from UV light... my 1982 Guards Red Euro-spec had a respray by previous owner already by the early 1990s.
@tff it's fairly common on the US-spec 944
Is the MPG meter on the instrument cluster an option or special in some way? I've never seen that on 944 dash?!
Impressive! Looks brand new inside, out & underneath. Was the repaint done with a single stage paint or with clearcoat (not obvious to me from the receipt shown)?
Hi, beautiful car! Question, why would a 5K mile car need a full re spay? Thank you and good luck
