Up for auction is this custom 1986 Porsche 911 Targa Outlaw presented in Grand Prix White over a completely restored black leather interior.  Powered by its original flat-six engine which has been fully rebuilt and upgraded to a 3.4 L displacement at a cost of over $25k, this Outlaw showcases many unique details including a duck tail rear decklid, rally lighting, a full custom sound system and an Elephant Racing suspension system.  Reported to have been driven approximately 5k miles since the completion of the build, this Targa is said to remain in outstanding driving condition while accompanied by extensive service records and invoices.

Upon commencement of this project, this Targa was treated to a professional glass-out respray in its factory original color of Grand Prix White.  The finish is noted to be in excellent condition with some minor rock chips (detailed images are provided in the photo gallery).  Exterior modifications include a duck tail rear decklid, rocker cover deletes, a polished Targa bar, Stuttgart Classica side view mirrors, a rear bumperette delete and S.E.V. Marchal head, hood and fog lights.  This Outlaw rides on Harvey Weidman restored Fuchs wheels finished in brushed aluminum.  The seller indicates that the painted Targa top will need new seals in the near future.

The black leather interior has been completely restored and outfitted with houndstooth upholstery.  “Vintage RS” bucket seats have been installed in addition to new door cards, a Magnus Walker Momo Prototipo steering wheel and Heuer rally timers.  A custom $10k sound system has also been installed including a vintage McIntosh head unit with FoCal amps and speakers.  The rear seat has been deleted, the Targa top has been restored and the instrument gauges have been refurbished and backdated with silver markings and chrome trim rings.  All gauges and electrical components are noted to be fully functional and the air conditioning has been converted to a Griffith system.

The original 3.2 L flat-six engine in this Targa was completely rebuilt by Supertec in 2014.  Over $25k was spent on the rebuild which included a 3.4 L bored displacement upgrade.  A number’s matching 5-speed manual transmission sends power to the rear wheels while an Elephant Racing/Bilstein suspension setup provides for excellent handling.  Approximately 5k miles have been added since the completion of the build and the seller confirms this Targa to be in fantastic running order.

The sale of this Outlaw will include a set of two keys, extensive records, books and tools, the original decklid, spare tire, an air compressor and car cover.

@dsdepew I met with my mechanic this morning. here's what he had to say on the emissions q and leakdown questions.

Leakdown; He's not concerned about a 2% variance on a street motor at all.

Emissions; It ONLY has an resonator. To pass CA smog you'd probably have to replace with an OEM cat.

@ChrisF1 Stock 3.2 cylinders are 95mm. In the “upgrades” list I chose the JE 98mm pistons, hence the bump from 3.2 to 3.4.

The compression is very strong across all cylinders. On the leak down on Cyl #1 I’ll check and confirm with my mechanic in the morning. I do know he wasn’t concerned at all.

    Follow up questions:
    - ad states a 3.4L rebuild. Invoice as far as I can tell states 3.2L street engine. Addons show addl. 3.2l items. Am I missing something or is this a 3.2L motor now.

    - 12% leak down on cyl #1 on a fresh engine seems really high. Thoughts here?
    Thanks

@Manpot I'll respond back on emissions as soon as I can, esp as it pertains to CA.

You'll get used to the dials, trust me :))

  • dsdepew (seller) 4 years, 1 monthago

@ChrisF1 Chris, Sorry, I may have misspoke. Confirming and will respond back.

  • dsdepew (seller) 4 years, 1 monthago

@ChrisF1 It's all stock on the drivetrain.

  • Manpot 4 years, 1 monthago

But I'd have to straighten those dials..I understand the thinking but it would drive me nuts. Everything else down to the Targa bar , mirrors, ducktail and interior..lovely

  • Manpot 4 years, 1 monthago

This may be the perfect Targa..not wild about white but everything else on this is just right IMHO. I do wonder if it will pass CA. smog as is?

  • ChrisF1 (registered bidder) 4 years, 1 monthago

What is status of emissions equipment? Looks like either a resonator or HFC in the pics. Everything else in place?

  • dsdepew (seller) 4 years, 1 monthago

@dsdepew CarFax started in 1984 and didn't really explode until the early '90's. I've found they really are NOT to be trusted but they have a lock (unfortunately) on making people believe they need their reports. I won't go into it here, but personally I would NEVER trust them.

  • dsdepew (seller) 4 years, 1 monthago

@chizchiz Actually, it is an US car. I had the speedo converted to KM. There is an inner ring stating MPH on the speedo. I think it's visible in the pics. This was a pseudo backdate euro style build. Our original intentions were to ship this car to europe for an extended driving vacation. Unfortunately that did not happen. Yes, the "wire" on the dash is for a Valentine 1 radar detector. I have them in all our cars and it's much cleaner than having cords everywhere.

  • chizchiz (registered bidder) 4 years, 1 monthago

Given the KM speedo, was this originally a Canadian car, it appears the carfax doesn't go back that far.
Also, the cord in picture 90, assume that's on the dash and for a radar detector?

    @chizchiz The date codes are as follows;
    RF - 05/14 RR - 44/13 LF - 05/14 LR - 48/13
Tires have approx 7400km (4600 miles) on them.

  • chizchiz (registered bidder) 4 years, 1 monthago

Do you have date codes on the tires?

@dsdepew Yes Harvey is the man. I had him refinish a set of Fuchs I have for a 930.
16x7 and 16x9 and to your point there were no 17" Fuchs back then.

  • dsdepew (seller) 4 years, 1 monthago

@chizchiz Gauge orientation is for visibility only.

Of all the cars I’ve built, this one is one of the funnest(?). Thanks for the kind words. It gets lots of comments and even Targa “haters” like and appreciate how this build came out. I’ll confess I have an affinity for Targa’s (see our Moss Green one also on auction here) and this is like no other, IMHO!

  • dsdepew (seller) 4 years, 1 monthago

@phowley Correct. The wheels were supplied by Zuffenhaus and they used Harvey Weidman (THE master Porsche wheel refinisher) to finish in an RSR style. They are 17” (which real Fuchs did not come in at the time). I, of course, have the receipt on these and if memory serves me correct the cost of these wheels alone were @ 4500.00. Happy to post the receipt from the binder of invoices if you’d like.

  • chizchiz (registered bidder) 4 years, 1 monthago

Love every bit of this! Can you educate me on the orientation of the gauges? Assume its purposefully done?

  • phowley (registered bidder) 4 years, 1 monthago

Good morning, those wheels are actually not Fuchs, correct?
They are Fikse wheels from BC Canada not that anything is wrong with them as I have a set myself.
    Nice car.

  • dsdepew (seller) 4 years, 1 monthago

Good questions. Roll bar is bolted in and yes, rear seats are available.

  • uas (registered bidder) 4 years, 1 monthago

Is roll bar welded or bolted in? Are the removed rear seats still available with sale?
