We are pleased to offer this European-market 1985 Mercedes-Benz W460 280GE finished in Karminrot (Carmine Red) over tan leather. Perhaps the purest expression of one the most iconic off-road vehicles of all time, this W460 represents the original Geländewagen series and was brought to the U.S. by the authorized import specialist Europa International, Inc. Featuring unique equipment including rear jump seats, a Safari top, and custom winch bumper, this 280GE recently underwent a major service along with custom electronic upgrades and is now being offered for auction by its seller in Arizona while showing approximately 83k miles on the 5-digit odometer.
This G-wagon is presented in its factory color of Karminrot (3002), and the condition of the paint is depicted in the photo gallery. The seller reports that this W460 was also previously refinished at some point during its life, detailed images are provided in the photo gallery along with a clean CARFAX. A Safari top helps to protect the roof from heavy loads while allowing an insulating layer of air to pass through. Other exterior features include side running boards, a custom-built Europa winch bumper with a Warn winch, and 16” military-style Hutchinson bead lock wheels finished in black and dressed in new Maxxis 980 Bravo A/T tires. A plaque from Europa International Inc. is also located on the rear along with a branded tow-hitch cover.
Inside, you will find a well-kept tan leather interior with a newly installed Alpine touchscreen control unit which operates various features throughout the vehicle including the exterior lighting and winch. An aftermarket alarm system is installed and a custom amplified sound system has also been equipped along with a JL subwoofer at a reported cost of over $2k. This example features rear jump seats as well as air conditioning, a heated rear window with a wiper, a swiveling map light for the passenger, and luggage nets on the front-seat backrests as well as power windows and power door locks which were rare options on these early G-wagons. The A/C system is reported to have been recently serviced, a new heater core was installed, and all gauges and accessories are said to be working properly. A mileage inconsistency is reported on CARFAX and the seller states this to be the result of a previous registration typo.
This W460 is equipped with a fuel-injected 2.7 L inline-6 M110 engine rated at approximately 154 HP and 165 lb.-ft of torque. All four wheels are driven through a 4-speed automatic transmission with locking differentials. Recent service items are said to include a full coolant system overhaul, all new fluids, a new fan clutch, new brake pads and rotors, new Bilstein shock absorbers, and a new battery. This G-wagon is reported to be in strong running order and some service records are provided for reference in the photo gallery.
This sale will include a clean title and some service records. A true off-road icon, this authentic Europa-imported W460 is not to be overlooked.

@Danielwood1 Hey There! So as far as any corrosion issues there are none on the body anywhere. The truck is very solid. The G starts and idles excellent with no smoke or excess noise. The injection seems to be overall in good sorts. The only bucking you can experience is on full throttle at the top of rpm range and you just back off a bit and it goes away. It's a common issue with these and can most likely be adjusted out by an expert. But if you drive this at 80% all the time you will never have an issue. There really isn't a ton to have to do on this. The drivers mirror spring needs repaired and the two rear window switches on the console need servicing. That's about the extent of it. The driveline has expected seeps for the miles without any major puddling leaks. All normal stuff for a G of this age. Everything is very user friendly and none of the repairs are out of the realm of a novice mechanic. That's what so great about this truck. Stock spare parts and work on this yourself forever! Great expedition vehicle.
Hi Jon! A couple questions I have — any rust issues you have noticed? Pictures look fairly clean, but any issues of corrosion that are concerning.
Also how does this run and drive? I know the kjet injection can be tricky occasionally and requires regular valve adjustments. Does this shift through the gears without slipping or clunks?
I know it won’t be perfect, just trying to gauge what kind of project it would be.
Thank you in advance!
I will work on a startup and walk around video tomorrow for anyone interested.
@robdsaunders sounds like you are looking for something a little more concours if you are so concerned with up close shots of the paint. There are plenty of show queen G-wagons out there and I'm sure you will find the one. This one is a good quality driver and I'm not representing it to be more than that. Again sorry I couldn't satisfy your requests in a timely manor.
@robdsaunders I'll see if I can get to it for you.
Actually Jon, don't worry about videos/pics, this probably isn't the right vehicle for me and I don't want to waste your time. Cheers
Not being funny but I honestly have no feel for the quality of the paint from these 50+ photos so a few close up photos that actually show the paint would be very helpful. I was going to ask for a cold start and driving video too.
@robdsaunders cause it's up on my storage rack blocked in by 4 other cars I have to move out of the way. I'm asking you what other pictures you want to see as I have provided 50+ outside photos of the truck. They look great on my phone and computer screen so not sure what else you would like me to do for you?? I can take some of it up in the air on the rack if that helps?
Just curious.....why can't you provide any other pics?
@robdsaunders no sorry these are the pics I have. The paintwork is a 7 or 8 out of 10. Very presentable for a clean offroad rig. No major scratches or damage areas. Just expected chips on the fender flares ect.
Hi Jon, for whatever reason the exterior paint is really washing out on my screen, do you have any close up detail pics of the paintwork? Cheers, Rob
@mg247 sorry no airbags.
Dumb question... does this have airbags?
Thanks!
