With its detachable roof panel and distinctive roll-over hoop, the Targa is one of the most iconic Porsche 911 models. This 1984 Porsche 911 Carrera Targa, marking the debut year of the Carrera 3.2, is finished in Black over a matching interior. It has been upgraded with an aftermarket air intake, sport-tuned shock absorbers, a Stomski Racing shifter & coupler, Rennline interior components, and much more. Acquired by the seller on PCARMARKET almost 3 years ago, this example is now being offered for auction out of Texas with approximately 123k miles showing on the odometer.
This 911 comes finished in Black with a removable black roof panel, Targa band, and a wraparound glass rear window. It rides on a set of refinished staggered-width 16” Fuchs wheels wrapped in BFGoodrich tires from 2015. The seller notes a professional detail and ceramic coating were performed, while small paint touch-ups are present on the driver’s side door and rear hatch surrounding. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a CARFAX showing damages reported in 2003 and 2013.
The cabin presents black upholstery completely redone with new leather, vinyl, and square-weave carpeting. Modifications include a MOMO Corse 3-spoke steering wheel, an aftermarket stereo, and a Rennline wireless phone charger. Additionally, new Rennline dash knobs, door handles, front seatbelts, and floorboards have been fitted. Other amenities include power windows, cruise control, and VDO instrumentation. The air conditioning system has been removed.
This Carrera equips an air-cooled 3.2-liter flat-six engine generating 207 HP stock to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual gearbox. Items installed by the previous owner include an aftermarket air intake and sport-tuned shock absorbers, along with the fitment of a new master cylinder, brake lines, pads, and rotors. Under current ownership, a valve adjustment has been completed with new valve cover gaskets and hardware along with replacements of the spark plugs, shifter bushings, and several fuses and relays. A new Stomski Racing shift coupler was also installed along with Rennline decklid struts and hinges, a steering shaft bearing support ring, and aftermarket wheel locks. A new fuel filter was also fitted.
The seller would like you to know: “I have cared deeply for this car since 2021, and having worked on it myself, I can tell you that the quality is immaculate for a 40-year-old Porsche. The car drives & handles great. Its suspension is solid and rides nice. It will start right up, and everything will run normally. It has been garaged since purchase. I have tried to keep the history of the 911 Targa but also modernize it a bit by restoring pieces with Rennline parts, Stomski shifter & coupler, Continental Bluetooth radio with new surround speakers, Rennline wireless phone charger, and adding a highly durable square weave carpet. The car does not have A/C, but I put it in a box for the new owner in case they want it. In my opinion, the new Classic Retrofit electric A/C would be a great addition to this vehicle. The heat works awesome during the winter. You pull up the levers near the E-brake for passenger & driver-side footwells to blow heat. The Targa top goes on and off very easily. I have kept the original parts (from when I owned the vehicle) for the new owner if you want to do anything with them. An upgraded air filter was installed, and the engine was serviced at the time of the second owner's acquisition in 2015. Upgraded sport shock absorbers and new brake lines, pads, rotors, and a master cylinder were also installed. There are two sets of keys and the driver's manual. It also comes with a duffle bag that holds the original tools, jack, oil bag and fuses, fire extinguishers, fire blanket, receipt folder, and the original California license plate from 1984. Feel free to ask me any questions in the comment section!”

@sportscarguy3 they are great cars. Have you checked out Lightstream?
I sure enjoyed my Porsche TARGA’s over the years
Especially my last one, a 1983, that looked identical to this
My credit union here in Northern California, changed his lending policy on older vehicles recently and unfortunately difficult to find loans for older Porsches now
However, certainly interested

@ehpracing Here is everything that has been replaced on the engine to my knowledge.
Valve gasket and nuts
Spark plugs
Starter
Fuses and relays
Fuel pump
Fuel injector
Oil lines
Oil return hoses
It was backed into twice and they were both minor, that’s all I know. Nothing looks out of the ordinary.
You mentioned many parts have been replaced but the car has never received a full rebuild per se. Can you elaborate on what parts these may be? No top end rebuild at least to your knowledge? Also, with the minor accidents having parts fixed or replaced are we talking small trim pieces and fasteners or full on body panels? It’s generally easy to spot if panels are not the originals such as feeling the underside of the fenders for the dimpled surface. Apologies for the loaded question.

@ehpracing Even after a full engine restoration, they can sometimes leak. The heads don’t use gaskets, it’s machined metal on metal with sealant. The timing covers have not been replaced.
@acustable they tend to leak when things need to be replaced. Have the timing chain covers been addressed? Very common leak point on these cars.
@Wmrazek That's just a worn-out spring; it has done that since I have owned the vehicle. It probably needs white lithium grease.
@acustable Just watched the videos - I've never heard that level of chatter/crunch from a clutch engaging/disengaging... did your tech at Zim's provide any sort of diagnosis on that?
@acustable Two 944 Turbos, two Carreras (one targa - 915, one with whale tale - G50), and one 930 Turbo. Has been fun seeing his journey with Porsche.
@Wmrazek Thanks, and it's awesome to hear about your pops having one. That is so cool!
@acustable Definitely familiar with the proclivity to leak some oil, was more curious about the volume/severity. Glad to hear it sounds minimal at current state, age and mileage.
@Wmrazek It does leak some oil; these cars tend to leak a bit. It needs a small top-off every 8-10 drives or so. I always measure the oil after a long drive to see where it sits. My mechanic at Zim's here in Dallas mentioned that there could be a few gaskets, pressure switches, and thermostat o-rings that might need to be replaced. She had a valve adjustment with new gaskets and nuts when I bought the car in 2021. Otherwise, it runs and drives great.
What can you share about oil consumption, any changes in maintenance (i.e. need for frequent oil top off due to any leaks or consumption, at what amount and interval, etc.)? Beautiful Carrera Targa - my father had an 88 black on black when I was a little guy and I'm keeping a close eye on this one!
@acustable I'm about a month from purchase ready...but if that changes in the next 2 days and 45 minutes, you could see a bid.
@Fastbadger both accidents were minor, the only detail I have from the prior owner was that everything was either replaced or fixed. There have been no full rebuilds per se, but a lot of parts have been replaced so it can run smoothly.
Welcome to flower mound! If you end up winning, I will hand the keys directly to you 👍

Great looking targa. Any detail on the accidents? Both look front left and minor. Any engine rebuilds in the cars past? Just moved to Flower Mound and starting my 911 search
