Now up for auction is this 1982 Porsche 928 5-Speed presented in Platinum Metallic over a brown leather interior.  A lifelong West Coast car, this 928 was originally purchased from Anderson-Behel Porsche/Audi in California with factory features including 16” Manhole Cover wheels, front and rear spoilers, and 5-speed manual transaxle.  This example was recently purchased by its current owner in 2020 before undergoing approximately $30k worth of refurbishment including new leather upholstery for the front seats, a new Koni coil-over suspension, a new stainless-steel exhaust, and a major overhaul of the engine including timing belt and water pump replacements.  Said to be in excellent mechanical order with approximately 175k miles showing on the odometer, this 5-speed 928 is now being offered for auction by its seller in Los Angeles accompanied by original books, tools, and a comprehensive collection of service records.

The Platinum Metallic finish is said to be well presented with some cosmetic imperfections as depicted in the photo gallery.  The driver’s side rear quarter panel is said to have been previously refinished along with the front bumper for cosmetic purposes, a clean CARFAX is also provided in the gallery.  Some noteworthy exterior details include front and rear spoilers, pop-up headlights, a rear window wiper, and recently refinished 16” flat-dish “Manhole Cover” wheels with colored Porsche center crests.  These wheels are currently dressed in a set of Dunlop Direzza tires installed in 2016.

Inside, the brown leather interior has been recently refreshed with all-new leather front seat upholstery at a cost of $2,800.  A new 3-spoke steering wheel was also installed, and other features include power seats and accessories, air conditioning, and an aftermarket Alpine radio with Bluetooth connectivity.  New Coco mats have been added and the seller reports that all gauges and accessories are working properly.

This grand tourer is equipped with a robust 4.5 L V8 engine that generates as much as 231 HP and 246 lb.-ft of torque in its stock configuration.  Power is transferred to the rear wheels through a desirable 5-speed manual transaxle.  During the current ownership, the undercarriage received a dry ice treatment, a new stainless-steel exhaust was installed, the suspension was redone with Koni adjustable coilovers and a front Ultimate sway bar kit.  The following items were also addressed through TRE Motorsports in the last year as part of a major mechanical overhaul:

  • Timing Belt Service
  • Spark Plugs
  • Accessory Belts and Tensioners
  • New Cam, Crank, and Oil Pump Seals
  • Water Pump Replacement
  • Motor Mounts
  • Thermostat
  • Ignition Rotor
  • Oil Pan Gasket
  • Coolant Hoses
  • New Brake Pads and Rotors

This 928 is reported to be in excellent driving condition at this time with no oil leaks or mechanical issues as stated by the seller.  A vast collection of records is available for reference in the photo gallery including a recent California smog test pass from December of 2020.

This sale will include a collection of service records and a clean title.  For anyone in search of an ideal driver-grade transaxle Porsche, this thoroughly sorted 1982 example makes a perfect choice.

@buccicone - the 928 fan seems to care a LOT more about "has the car been sorted and maintained" than miles. These are complex cars. For more than period 911s. If they are kept up on or sorted by experts they go forever. I bought two high miles 928s. An 86 w/ 122K miles (3 owner) and a 79 w/ 165K miles (2 owners, one being the owner of 928 international). The 86 has been bullet proof w/ only annual open checkbook service to keep going and the 79 required $750 in sorting w/ the exception of the cosmetic restoration I am doing. Buy owner and receipts and state of the car. Not miles.

I am sorry for your health. I agree with you, I like high mileage cars which have been enjoyed. I was just trying to understand why you would sell having just done it up. Best wishes

    hi Nadir and Buccicone,

    valid comments,
Love is the answer for spending the money,
as we all know circumstances change and bad health is the reason for selling.

So whichever way you look at it,
here is your chance to buy a great well sorted car 5 speed car,
    for a great price.

This car has only covered 4.500 miles a year over 39 years.

Buy for condition not for miles. :)

  • buccicone (registered bidder) 3 years, 10 monthsago

I have to agree with @Nadir. Not the most desirable year and 176k miles. Now, if it were a 20k mile car, yes.

  • Nadir 3 years, 10 monthsago

Why spend $30,000 to get the car in great condition and then sell?

  • eurocol (seller) 3 years, 10 monthsago

    @PCarmarket

    Sam,

can you please post the cold start video and the 121 undercarriage pictures
    I sent you
