Available for auction is this 1981 DMC DeLorean DMC-12 featuring a brushed stainless-steel finish over a black leather interior. Built from January of 1981 up until December of 1982 when the company went bankrupt, the DMC-12 was DeLorean Motor Company's first and only model. This example was refurbished and modified by DeLorean Industries of Tallmadge, Ohio in 2020, and features a turbocharged 2.85L V6, a SPEC brake kit, stainless steel suspension components, a louvered rear-window cover, and more. This DeLorean is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Louisiana.
The brushed stainless-steel bodywork was designed by legendary Italian designer Giorgetto Giugiaro and is laid over a fiberglass underbody affixed to a steel frame chassis. The SS304 austenitic stainless steel used for the body panels resists corrosion and can be reconditioned using nonmetallic abrasives. In 2020, the urethane front and rear fascias were refinished and the stainless-steel chassis was replaced by DeLorean Industries along with the windshield. Details include gull-wing doors, rear window louvers, dual exhaust outlets, a DeLorean Industries SPEC “Bullitt” proof rock screen, and staggered 14”/15” turbine-style cast-alloy wheels. The wheels are dressed in a set of General Altimax RT43 tires installed in 2020. A small dent is noted on the driver’s side rear quarter panel, detailed images are provided in the gallery.
The cabin is upholstered in black Bridge of Weir leather with a matching dashboard, door panels, and center console. Amenities include air conditioning, a digital clock, power windows, a tilt/telescopic steering wheel, intermittent windshield wipers, and an electric rear window defroster. The cabin has also been upgraded with a Pioneer CD player with USB and Bluetooth connectivity, a leather-wrapped three-spoke MOMO steering wheel, and a stainless-steel shift knob. The seller confirms all gauges and accessories remain functional.
This DMC-12 is powered by a mid-mounted 2.85L Peugeot-Renault-Volvo (PRV) V6 rebuilt with forged internals and blueprinted by DeLorean Industries before being fitted with their SPEC T turbocharger kit. The turbo kit includes a Precision turbocharger, an air-to-water intercooler system with a Bosch ECU-controlled intercooler pump, a front-mount air-to-water heat exchanger, Turbosmart external wastegate, electronic fuel injection, a coolant overflow tank, fuel pressure regulator, and custom exhaust system. The rear wheels are driven by way of a 5-speed manual transaxle. The four-wheel independent suspension includes double wishbones up front and a multilink setup in the rear and has been upgraded with Stainless DeLorean Industries components. Stopping power is provided by power-assisted disc brakes at all four corners and has been enhanced by a SPEC brake kit with stainless steel lines. The seller reports that around 200 miles have been covered since the rebuild and that there are no outstanding service items at this time.
This sale will include a clean title.

@Stryker14 the exhaust is not valved, no. The audio from the youtube link is the only exhaust "setting" or mode.
question, is the muffler permanently disconnected or it there a cutout switch somewhere?
Thanks
@mohitsud the car does have catalytic converters but I was told per DeLorean Industries that it will not pass a visual inspection in the state of California, take that how you may...
@Nolasport do you know if it still has the catalytic converter?
@mohitsud I do not have any information on the smog requirements in the state of California or even the emissions figures of this particular vehicle.
I am in California. Would this pass local smog testing or would the custom exhaust impact this?

@gsfent
Per DeLorean Industries build on this particular car...
Precision Turbocharger head unit
Air to water intercooler system with Bosch ECU controlled intercooler pump
Front mount air to water heat exchanger T3
Forged internals on blueprinted long block
Turbosmart external wastegates with 12 psi base springs installed
At current power and tune level it products 291 ft lbs of torque
This can be adjusted to 18 psi with upgrade kit and tune flash
(I would assume that the 291 torque number is at the crank, hope this helps!)
Bid in the amount of $5,000
Can you share some info on the turbo? Hp (crank or rear wheels), boost, turbo specs?
Thx
Jerry
@Adguy924CGT it has AC and it does work great! The car can be viewed in person upon request of an appointment.
@Artdeckco Nothing disrespectful about getting the party started! In all honesty my client would rather not release any information in regards to how much money has been invested in the DeLorean and its restoration... but I can tell you that it is probably a good bit more than one would imagine. Certainly the nicest example available, almost as if it left the assembly line form DeLorean Industries 200 miles ago, which it did!! Forged internals on blueprinted long block, yes. The car is tuned for premium, 91/93 yes. I would be grossly negligent if I estimated a MPG..
@Nolasport does it have air conditioning and can the car be viewed in person?
Bid in the amount of $250
I don't want my bid to be disrespectful, so any hints on how much you have put into this vehicle would be helpful.
By the way, did the engine rebuild include forged pistons and crank? Do you need to use 93 octane? Roughly, what would you estimate the MPG?
