Topping the BMW E24 6-Series model range in 1981, this BMW 635CSi is a European-market car featuring a fuel-injected M90 inline-six engine paired with a dogleg 5-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. It comes finished in Kastanienrot Metallic over a Pearl Beige leather interior. The car was modified under prior ownership with 17” BMW Style 42 two-piece wheels, Zender side skirts, aftermarket audio components, and shaved side marker delete front fenders. It was purchased by the seller in 2022 and has since been fitted with a wood steering wheel and gear knob, and serviced with a new water pump, thermostat, clutch slave cylinder, spark plugs, and more. Showing approximately 140k miles on the odometer this classic Euro-spec E24 is now being offered for auction out of Massachusetts.
This 635CSi has been refinished in its factory color of Kastanienrot Metallic (Chestnut Red Metallic) and includes a front air dam, quad headlamps, Euro-spec bumpers, dual polished mirrors, a black rubber trunk lid spoiler, aftermarket Zender side skirts, and a dual-tipped central exhaust outlet. The car rides on 17” BMW Style 42 two-piece wheels dressed in 2016 Riken Raptor tires. The seller indicates new emblems were installed during their ownership and the front fenders were shaved during the repaint, eliminating the Euro-spec side marker lenses. The windshield trim is currently uninstalled, although the part will be provided in the sale. Noted imperfections include corrosion on the aluminum taillight trim, a repaired crack in the driver's side rear turn signal lens, corrosion on the undercarriage, blemishes on the rubber rear spoiler, and loose-fitting rubber on the rear bumper. Additional images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.
The 2+2 cabin is appointed with Pearl Beige leather upholstery, matching carpets, and a contrasting black dashboard. A wood-trimmed steering wheel and gear knob have been installed and the original parts are included in the sale. The car features power windows, air conditioning, rear headrests, three-point seatbelts, an aftermarket Kenwood stereo, and Pioneer door speakers. An aftermarket Bosch column-mounted tachometer has been installed as the dashboard gauge is currently inoperable. The windshield wipers were disconnected under prior ownership and did not work properly. The seller notes a minor crack on the dashboard, cracked door seals, creases on the seats, and warped rear speaker enclosures. The trunk lining is ill-fitting, and the trunk light is missing its lens. The air conditioning system is functional, although it does not blow cold.
This Euro-spec 635CSi is equipped with a fuel-injected 3.5-liter M90 inline-six engine which offers an output of up to 218 HP and 224 lb.-ft of torque. The rear wheels are driven through a dogleg 5-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. Before the seller’s acquisition in 2022, the car was serviced with a new water pump, a new thermostat and housing, a new fan and fan clutch, a new clutch slave cylinder, and new spark plugs. A new battery was installed in 2024. Some under-hood insulation is missing and a small corrosion hole can be seen in the engine compartment. The seller adds that the battery draws power when the car is not used and is believed to result from the disconnected windshield wiper wiring.
This sale will include owner’s manuals, a partial toolkit, the original steering wheel and shift knob, exterior trim trips, and a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: “This is a unique car that is mechanically sound and for its age, it has a solid body and interior. It is not perfect but is a great candidate for restoration given the M90 engine. Not much has changed since I bought it, as it is a project that I was unable to push forward due to moving away."

@Malcolm321 before making an offer.
Any rust in the truck floor or anywhere else?
Closing in on the last 2.5 hours, good luck to all and let me know of last minute questions!

Hi all,
Thank you so far to those bidding. 10 more hours looking to close this out today! Lowering reserve slightly again.
@Porsche930991Macan 140k miles, speedometer and odometer dials are in miles.
Mileage...140K miles or kilometers?
Bid in the amount of $3,999
@1 The car does smoke some upon start up after being idle for extended periods. I haven't noticed leaks but the car is stored indoors/covered. I have the car at a family members house and am not local but could see if I could get a video of the exhaust on startup.
Is there any smoke from the exhaust upon startup? Your startup video doesn't quite show. Could you record a cold start video showing the exhaust?
Are there any leaks on the floor if the car sits for some time?
Hi all, lowering the reserve going into the last day!
Checking in with potential bidders going into the last 48 hours of this auction. Don't hesitate to reach out with questions. Thanks and good luck!
@1 As mentioned in description, AC doesn’t blow cold. Gears feel fine and can shift to 1st while rolling. Service for a car of this era prior to a long road trip I would think working through the wiring/battery stuff and replacing door seals in addition to the wiper motor.
Bid in the amount of $1,000
Are there any other systems apart from the tachometer and wipers that don't function properly? How do the gears feel to shift? Can you shift into first while rolling?
Also, do you have any service history on the car past the few items mentioned in the listing? Anything you'd get serviced before driving it cross country besides tires and wipers?
@Malcolm321 to clarify, they were found to be disconnected upon acquisition.
@1 the windshield wipers do not function properly. They were disconnected upon acquisition and found to be faulty.
The listing mentions disconnected windshield wiper wiring. Do the windshield wipers work?
@Kevetter uploaded photos, let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks.
