Finished in Silver Metallic over Black leather upholstery, this 1979 Porsche 930 Turbo was originally sold by Gateway Porsche/Audi of Portland Oregon featuring optional Sport Seats, a limited-slip differential, and an electric sunroof. It was maintained by the original owner until 2014 with just over 7k miles driven purchased by the seller in late 2016. The car benefits from approximately $10k in service under current ownership and earned the Best of Show and “Mike Jaffee Excellence was Expected” awards at the 2015 Porsches on the Bay Concours in Miami. Accompanied by comprehensive records, the original window sticker, and owner’s manuals, this 911 Turbo Coupe is now being offered for auction out of Nevada with approximately 9k miles showing on the odometer.

This 930 came factory-finished in Silver Metallic (L939) and features Turbo-specific bodywork including wide fenders, a front air dam, and a “Tea Tray” rear spoiler. It was fitted with Bosch H4 headlamps under current ownership and is equipped with front fog lights, a fender-mounted antenna, an electric sunroof, a rear window wiper, black stone guard decals, and 16” Fuchs alloy wheels. The car rides on Pirelli Cinturato P7 tires from 2018. The seller believes the driver’s door was refinished upon initial import to the U.S., however, the rest of the car’s paint is said to be original. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.

The Black leather interior showcases optional Sport Seats with a matching headliner and a three-spoke leather steering wheel. Other accessories include power windows, a power-adjustable passenger-side mirror, an updated R134a air-conditioning system, automatic heat control, a quartz clock, Turbo-logo carpet floor mats, and an original Porsche-Blaupunkt radio.

Rated at 300 HP and 291 lb.-ft of torque, the turbocharged and intercooled 3.3-liter flat-six engine is paired with a 4-speed manual gearbox and an optional limited-slip differential. The seller notes an aftermarket stainless-steel muffler was installed under prior ownership. Maintenance under the seller’s ownership includes the replacement of the wastegate and recent oil leak repairs at a valve cover and oil return line.

This sale will include the original owner’s manuals and Porsche warranty booklet, the original window sticker, a toolkit, a spare tire, sales literature, service records, and a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “This time capsule car is one of the best kept and documented of any 930 Turbo in the US.  Wearing iconic silver over black it is a showstopper that can be enjoyed on the road and on the lawn.”

I am one of the proud and fastidious owners of this amazing 930. I campaigned this car at the Concours in Miami where it won all of the highly coveted awards. This 930 is the real deal backed up with bulletproof documentation.

Is this the same one that just sold on BAT for $254K?!

One overlooked but important reason this 930 did not bring a higher final bid both here and on BaT is that the car has had a lot of paint work done, evident by the paint meter readings posted on the previous BaT auction.

    Originality brings the premium.

  • Yopurp (registered bidder) 3 weeksago

$85k is just a bit off. Knew it was a lot with that BaT sale. Hard to blame him but that’s still GT3 money.

  • Chipper (registered bidder) 3 weeksago

    @sportscarguy3 er no....

  • sportscarguy3 (registered bidder) 3 weeksago

I honestly don't think we were too far from the reserve
With luck the high bidder and seller can negotiate a deal

    **here Thanks, autocorrect.

  • b.flippo (registered bidder) 3 weeksago

Left some money on the table hear. As an owner of a 78, I think 78-79 models are so great. Most of them got horribly 80's-fied in the decades after. This one is still in it's true 70's form.

  • sportscarguy3 (registered bidder) 3 weeksago

@Yopurp, buy it, drive it, enjoy it !
You can put 30,000 miles on this Porsche and probably still sell it for close to what you paid for it

  • Yopurp (registered bidder) 3 weeksago

These cars are so hard for me. Pay premium for such low miles then feel like you can’t drive it. I’m always so torn. Grrr

  • sportscarguy3 (registered bidder) 3 weeksago

Amazing that this Porsche has less than 10,000 miles

Welcome to the final day of the auction. I remain available to answer any questions about this fabulous’79 930.

In the final bidding, consider that a comparable ‘77 930 with 4,300 miles sold for $306K on BaT last month. This 1979 is in the same or better condition and has more comprehensive documentation. This is a blue chip 930 and its ranking in the hierarchy of collectible and iconic sports cars is only rising.

@82turboruf I believe you are correct. The published reporting I see for 1979 US cars reports 245 BHP. This car pulls very hard as the turbo spools up.

  • rockminster (seller) 3 weeks, 5 daysago

@goldfingerjr The original headlights and surrounds (painted silver) are indeed included. They are in impeccable condition and I will get a photo of them added to the gallery.

  • 82turboruf (registered bidder) 3 weeks, 5 daysago

So with the no side front fender and rear taillights in gold this is a us spec turbo and would not be 300 hp from the
factory row car. And the fat rear bumpers. Correct?

  • rmrmd1956 (registered bidder) 3 weeks, 5 daysago

Wow, all I have to say

  • drb930 (registered bidder) 3 weeks, 6 daysago

US 930's with the banana heat exchangers and thermal reactors were rated at 260HP

  • 88kmk (registered bidder) 3 weeks, 6 daysago

I’ve driven this car and it’s as tight as it is stunning!
Wish I have the funds to buy it!

  • goldfingerjr (registered bidder) 3 weeks, 6 daysago

I think I read somewhere that the original headlight surrounds are included with the sale....are they painted exterior silver or are they chrome as well?

  • rockminster (seller) 3 weeks, 6 daysago

Hello Pcar community and welcome to the auction for my 1979 930 Turbo. This is a truly special piece of Porsche history in terms of condition, authenticity, and documentation. I encourage buyers to spend time looking through the records on the car that date back to delivery. The records tell a story not just of the maintenance and repair work that was completed, but especially of the meticulous care that was bestowed upon the car by the gentleman who owned the car for the first 35 years of its life and then after he made the decision to sell it. I have decided to allow the car to move to its next caretaker as the miles are too low and the condition too great for me comfortably use the car as I had originally planned. I welcome questions and will do my best to answer them. The car is located in Northern Nevada and I welcome buyers to come see the car in person.

  • delanodp (registered bidder) 3 weeks, 6 daysago

Beautifully preserved example. Surprised the infamous thermal reactors have survived so many years. Speaks to the originality and dedication to the way it was.
