It is our pleasure to present this one-of-a-kind 1979 Porsche 911SC Targa finished in Stone Grey (5710). The product of a year-long build process, this 911SC Targa was treated to an extremely high-quality nut and bolt rotisserie restoration by a well-known and reputable Porsche specialist. The bodywork was revised and painstakingly handcrafted to provide an updated streamlined appearance while preserving the distinctive period look. The cabin was masterfully reupholstered in new brown leather along with custom tartan bucket seats, a painted roll bar, and classic square weave carpeting. The suspension and brakes were completely overhauled and upgraded, and a new 3.2L flat-six engine was built using top-of-the-line componentry before it was mated to a rebuilt 5-speed 915 manual gearbox. Since the initial completion of the build, this Targa has continued to be customized, upgraded, and serviced, while also driven cross-country to the air-cooled Porsche gathering Luftgekühlt. A no expense spared custom restoration carried out to the highest of standards, this remarkable 911SC Targa is now being offered for auction by its seller out of New York with just over 4,600 miles traveled since completion.
Beginning with a U.S. market 911SC Targa, this example was stripped to bare metal, placed on a rotisserie, and refinished in Stone Grey, a rare nonmetallic classic Porsche color originally offered on 356 models of the late 1950s. The seller adds that the donor car was found to be in excellent structural condition, therefore no repair of the metalwork was required. A center fuel filler was added to the hood, the rocker panels were deleted along with the windshield washer jets, and all of the window trim was professionally powder coated in silver. As part of the evolution of this particular vehicle's appearance, an original 911 rear decklid was reimagined and custom fabricated with a twin-grille design and handmade anodized grille inserts, harkening back to the early twin-grille Porsche road and race cars. In addition to the unique twin-grille decklid, a custom fabricated metal panel was added between the taillights to further complement the car's classic streamlined styling. The brushed stainless-steel Targa band was refinished and preserved under a layer of clear protection film. The hood and the leading edges of the front fenders are also preserved under paint protection film, detailed images are provided in the photo gallery. The car rides on a set of 17”x8” and 17”x9” Fikse Fuchs-style wheels with anodized outer lips and RSR-style faces.
Inside, you will find a beautifully appointed custom interior with new brown leather upholstery and early-style German square weave carpeting. A color-matched bolt-in roll bar was fitted in the rear and custom RS-style door panels were added along with a suite of custom instrument dials, Rennline pedals, a custom upholstered MOMO Prototipo steering wheel with a leather horn button, and a factory short shifter with a wooden 917-style shift knob. Leather door stop straps were custom made and the removable Targa top was reupholstered in marine-grade brown canvas fabric with an Alcantara inner liner. A pair of GTS Classic bucket seats were installed more recently and feature deviated leather backrests and custom tartan fabric inserts. In the front trunk, you will find a custom Deep Copper anodized Rennline strut brace and blower motor assembly cover as well as a new Porsche 993 spare tire to accommodate the larger brakes. The seller notes that the air-conditioning system has been removed, although the heating system remains fully intact.
An air-cooled 3.0L flat-six engine was sourced from another 911SC and was subsequently rebuilt, blueprinted, and upgraded to a 3.2L displacement with Mahle cylinders and JE pistons. Ported heads were installed along with custom profile cams, an Aasco valvetrain, a polished and balanced crankshaft, WEVO mounts, and a full Elephant Racing oil cooler system with high-clearance oil lines. It also features an accelerator cable conversion, SSI heat exchangers, an M&K GT3-style center muffler, and a custom coil-on-plug ignition. All of the wiring in the engine bay has been carefully tucked away for a clean appearance. The Rasant fuel injection system is based on an AEM Infinity ECU and operates in conjunction with PMO individual throttle bodies. The engine was dyno-tuned and tested by Dawe Motorsports, and the seller claims an output of over 300 HP.
The rear wheels are driven by way of a rebuilt 5-speed 915 manual gearbox with a lightweight Sachs clutch kit and WEVO shifter coupling. The suspension was completely rebuilt with replated hardware and upgraded Bilstein dampers, Turbo torsion bars, Turbo tie rods, an adjustable Elephant Racing RSR rear sway bar, and Rennline front upper monoball strut mounts. The chassis was also reinforced to accommodate the through-body Elephant Racing front sway bar. The brakes have been rebuilt and upgraded with custom Stone Grey powder coated Porsche 986 Boxster calipers, Zimmerman rotors, steel braided lines, and a 930 Turbo master cylinder. Standard valve adjustments and oil changes have been carried out and the car was recently sent to Dawe Motorsports for a complete re-tune of the engine management system.
This sale will include screen filters for the individual throttle bodies, rain hat K&N air filter assemblies, a key set, and a clean title. A beautifully executed one-off build that is ready to be shown, driven, and enjoyed, this exceptional 911SC Targa restoration is an air-cooled Porsche enthusiast's dream come true.

Sold for $225,000
$225,000 offer from Cumberland Foreside, ME (04110)
Interesting. I purchased a car from jab1706 through PCA Marketplace to help him fund purchase of this targa.
here is what happened next...
> I am writing to you to let you know I am returning the wire transfer you sent to me on May 2nd in full ($XXX,XXX). I know this is shocking and disappointing and hope you will allow me to explain.
>
> As you know and we discussed, the purpose of the sale of the 964 was to fund my obsession with acquiring a rare Targa. I made an assumption that the broker selling the Targa would simply accept cash payment for the listed asking price. Therefore, I assumed that if I was able to have the funds available by selling the 964, I could simply make a cash deal happen. That is when I placed the car on PCA market and got quite a response, as you know.
>
> After we spoke and consummated our deal last weekend, I then reached out to the broker who informed me that, for him, the most crucial aspect of the deal (which he insisted I had agreed upon) was a trade-in of the 964 in addition to some cash. He said he would not accept just cash for his asking price. Rather, he insisted that he would not move forward with the deal for the Targa unless the 964 was included on trade in.
> In summary, I REALLY WANT TO GET THIS TARGA AND WILL NOT BE ABLE TO DO SO UNLESS I TRADE IN THE 964. THAT IS THE ONLY WAY ACCORDING TO THE BROKER WHO HAS THE TARGA.
>
> PLEASE FORGVE ME. I FEEL AWFUL. I have never pulled out of a significant transaction like this in my life due to a misunderstanding or miscommunication. I feel embarrassed but I have to cancel the deal.
> I am confident you will find the 964 of your dreams.
>
> Let me know that you received the wire transfer back in full.
>
> Sincerely,
>

This build is pretty incredible, worth every penny of the asking price IMO.
Having owned a targa and having put the folded top in the front trunk hundreds of times, I would GUESS that this one will be a very tight fit due to the presence of the filler neck.
@MacadooMotors it can be put in the trunk, however, like the original stock method, would have to be folded and wouldn’t recommend it.
@jab7106 hi. I asked someone from Pcarmarket to reach out to you.

Dear EUROsellinc, I am very interested in this gorgeous vehicle. However, the challenge would be the logistics as I would have to sell 2 other vehicles in order to finance this vehicle. How can we facilitate this? What are my options? My concern is that by the time the 2 vehicles have sold this piece of art will be gone. Look forward to any suggestions and appreciate in advance you attention.
Is there information available on who did the restoration of this vehicle?

Very cool build. That rear deck lid and front bumper are great and unique touches that are not easily copied and if they are need knowledgeable and skilled workmanship for this level of execution.
Congratulations to both seller and winning bidder. Not gonna lie….. i’m a bit envious on this one.

Very nice build. The quality and workanship are amazing. I especially appreciate embracing the impact bumper design and improving on it instead of always thinking long hood. G-body cars are nice and they deserve throwing love at them.

Very tastefully done! Love the sport seats! Where did you get the horn button?
Nice and clean in and out.
Love Targa's GLWS
When I finally have my 911 restored I only Hope that it’ll be to this level of thoroughness and detail. This car has some stunning styling cues and I apologize in advance for stealing some of them. Good luck with the auction.

Welcome to the auction for this stunning, one-off Targa. Breathtaking looks, exhilarating performance, and the feel of an early-era 911 are what this car is all about. You won’t find corners cut or expenses spared on this build which sadly is not the case for all enhanced 911’s. Those with extensive knowledge will look closely to see that every area received attention, thought and detail. This is an opportunity not to be missed and we will be saddened to see this one go. Looking forward to your questions and comments. Would be a pleasure to accommodate in-person inspections.
