Presenting iconic 1980s design cues with sleek, aerodynamic lines and a mid-engine layout, the Ferrari 308 was styled by Leonardo Fioravanti of Pininfarina, known for his work on Ferrari classics like the F40. The premier V8 mid-engine sports car following the Dino, the 308 debuted in 1975, with the GTS variant introduced in 1977. Equipped with a coveted 5-speed gated manual transmission, a limited-slip differential, and a removable roof panel, this 1979 Ferrari 308 GTS is finished in Black over Tobacco Connolly leather. Initially delivered to Algar Enterprises, Inc., of Paoli, Pennsylvania, it was sold to its first owner in Texas in September 1979 and was later acquired by the current owner in November 1994 at approximately 25k miles. Remaining as part of the owner’s private collection ever since, this 308 GTS is now being offered for auction out of Indiana with approximately 29k miles showing on the odometer.
Distinguished from the 308 GTB by its removable Targa roof panel, the GTS allows for open-air driving. This example comes finished in Black with a matching top and rides on silver 14” Cromodora alloy wheels wrapped in Michelin XWX tires. Other details include pop-up headlights, Vitaloni Californian mirrors, louvered rear quarter windows, prominent side air intakes, and quad exhaust outlets. Additional images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.
The driver is situated within a Tobacco Connolly leather interior, featuring a gated 5-speed manual shifter nestled between the two seats. A leather-wrapped, three-spoke MOMO steering wheel is positioned ahead of the analog Veglia Borletti instrumentation. The equipment also includes various center-console-mounted controls, a heated rear window, and a quartz analog clock and an oil temperature gauge fitted to the left of the steering wheel.
The mid-mounted Tipo F106AB 2.9L V8 engine features four twin-choke Weber carburetors and an output of approximately 240 HP. A 5-speed manual transaxle with a gated dog-leg shifter drives the rear wheels, and other mechanical features include independent double-wishbone suspension, vented disc brakes, and rack and pinion steering. An invoice from November 2023 indicates that the electric window motors and regulators need replacement and that the fuse has been removed from the fuse panel. The seller states the shocks have been replaced, the window motors are working slowly, and the air condition system requires refrigerant.
This sale will include a clean title, owner’s manuals, a window sticker, a toolkit, and a spare tire.
The seller would like you to know: “This is a great car, purchased 30 years ago as an addition to a larger car collection. Driven very few miles since my acquisition, it includes recent service and service records.”
