Representing the final year of the 2.7-liter engine, this 1977 Porsche 911S Coupe was configured without a sunroof and features a refinish in its factory-specified shade of Black over matching upholstery. The car has undergone a comprehensive restoration, including a meticulous engine-out service, a rebuilt ignition system, and the installation of upgraded suspension components. Notable enhancements also include LED headlights, restored taillights, black-painted Fuchs wheels, a Dansk dual-exit central exhaust system, and more. With approximately 125k miles on the odometer, this thoroughly restored 911S is available for auction once again on PCARMARKET by its seller out of Virginia.

This non-sunroof Coupe has been refinished in its original shade of Black and rides on black-painted 15” Fuchs wheels wrapped in new Pirelli Four Seasons Plus tires. Upgrades include LED headlights, refinished headlight housings, restored taillights, integrated air inlets within the front bumper, a front chin spoiler, dual side mirrors, red brake calipers, and a dual-exit central exhaust system. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.

The restored cabin presents black upholstery, RS-style door pulls, a replacement perforated headliner and rear upper decklid section, a dashboard cover, new carpets with Porsche lettering, and a repaired glovebox lid. Additionally, a Euro-style radio with door speakers and updated wiring has been fitted, and the weather strips have been replaced. All gauges and accessories are confirmed to be in proper working order.

Power is derived from an air-cooled 2.7-liter flat-six which is said to have undergone an engine-out service including the replacement of the head gasket, bolts, timing valve, and piston rings, along with a rebuilt ignition system. The rear wheels are driven through a 5-speed 915 manual transmission. The adds that an upgraded sway bar has been fitted along with a performance strut assembly and a Dansk exhaust system. No outstanding maintenance items have been reported.

This sale will include a registration (lien).

The seller would like you to know: "This 1977 Porsche 911S is a beautifully restored classic with a rare and highly sought-after factory sunroof delete, giving it a sleek roofline and reduced weight that enhances its performance-focused appeal. Mechanically, it has undergone a comprehensive engine-out service, including head gasket replacement, timing adjustments, and refreshed suspension components. With its rare sunroof delete and meticulous restoration, this 911S is both a collector’s dream and a thrilling driver’s car. Happy bidding!"

The first two that come to mind are: IMA Motorwerke on Pleasant Valley Road in Chantilly VA, and Auto Sportsystems Group (ASG) on Dorr Ave in Fairfax VA. Both are highly recommended by the local Porsche owners and have been servicing Porsches for 25+ years.

@Garden38 what are the shops in N Virginia that youdrecommend?

  • Garden38 (registered bidder) 2 months, 2 weeksago

Anyone who wishes to purchase this car should offer to pay for a pre-purchase inspection. Once that is done you will know what needs to be attended to. Since some questions went unanswered, it's only a guess as to the condition of those things that are being questioned. There are many excellent shops in N. Virginia that can do this. Someone who is interested in buying the car and is close enough to look at the car in person should do so. And unless that person knows all the things that these older 911s can have issues with, it's best to pay for a PPI. A simple thing such as an engine that doesn't start until it's been cranked for 10 seconds can mean that expensive parts may need replacing/rebuilding. And with our Porsche's that can get expensive real quick. The asked for front suspension rebuild can run into the thousands , or could be just a few hundred. Hopefully this car will find that forever home.

    @Chipper I agree, $40K is all in!

  • Chipper (registered bidder) 2 months, 2 weeksago

Seller is way out of touch with the market. $60k for a color change midyear is insane. BAT has better deals than that. LOL

I’ve watched this car since the first time that it was placed on an auction website
Originally it was a car that I was very interested in, however, there’s quite a bit of uncertainty in my mind about some various work performed or not performed, etc. etc. etc.
The Porsche continues, it appears, to be difficult to start, which I don’t understand, and hasn’t been explained in any detail by the seller
Lots of comments lots of questions seems like a decent 911 S coupe but just something about it doesn’t seem to put it in the best category for one reason or another
I think at this point, the seller should realize that he is not going to get what he is expecting from these auction.
I certainly wish the seller good luck and it’s still a Porsche that I would have interest in
But like the high bidder, I agreed that the suspension parts should be coordinated or completed correctly
    Regarding the lien
That would only be taken care of when the car was sold, I don’t believe it’s realistic to expect the seller to pay off the loan to sell the car
When the car is purchased, the buyer will pay the bank. The bank will release the loan and provide clear title.

@PCGT2005 Thank you for your offer but we are too far apart.

  • PCGT2005 (registered bidder) 2 months, 2 weeksago

The caveat to my bid is suspension complete repair, as the seller acknowledged would be done the lien removed, and the car is with clear title. Rescind my bid if the aforementioned isn't accurate, which is obvious, and I would expect that would be the criteria to list. Thank you.

We're down to the last two hours of the auction! Thank you to everyone who has followed, commented, and placed bids so far. This 1977 Porsche 911S with its rare sunroof delete is a well-sorted and highly desirable example, with significant restoration and mechanical improvements! I would like to add If it ends up going to someone in the DMV area, I’d be happy to connect you with the mechanics who worked on the car and know everything about it as well. If you have any last-minute questions, feel free to ask. Good luck to all and happy bidding!

@Angelny911 Yes, currently the car has a loan and not paid off yet.

  • Porschepulse (seller) 2 months, 2 weeksago

@Angelny911 I appreciate your attention to detail. To answer your questions, when the work was done, the mechanic did not suggest replacing the other side, as they determined it was in good shape at the time. That said, I understand the importance of consistency in suspension components. If replacing the other front strut and tie rod is a deal-breaker for you, I’m open to addressing it to ensure you feel confident in the car. Thanks again for brining that up.

@cavemanmoore I really appreciate your kind words and perspective. I’ve done my best to highlight its rare factory sunroof delete and the extensive work done to enhance its performance and reliability. It may not check the box for absolute originality, but its unique features and attention to detail make it a joy to experience on the road. Thanks again

@Garden38 Good morning and sorry for delay in response. In regards to the leak-down test inquiry, I reached out to Porsche of Arlington, but they quoted $1,650 plus taxes for the test. Instead, I contacted two reputable shops, Auto Sports system Group, could not get a response on time, and Reinhart’s Garage in Arlington, a trusted local mechanic specializing in classic Porsches. Their earliest availability is Wednesday. I’ve also spoken multiple times with the mechanic who worked on my car. He performed a major tune-up, including a valve adjustment, spark plug replacement, and torquing all 24 crankcase engine studs. He assured me that if there had been any issues, such as a broken or pulling stud, he would have informed me. The engine shows no signs of smoke or power loss, and the work included a valve adjustment, head gasket and bolt replacements, timing adjustments, and new piston rings, ensuring the engine runs at peak performance. Additional upgrades included a rebuilt ignition system, a new fuel pump, and refreshed suspension components. I also have 44 pages of receipts totaling $29,968.49 that detail the work and parts, which I will include with the sale.
I can still offer to do the leak down test after purchase, it takes two and half hour.

  • Garden38 (registered bidder) 2 months, 2 weeksago

@Porschepulse So it looks like we won't get to see the much needed compression and leak down numbers. Since the engine has not been completely rebuilt it will need that after purchase. The 74-77 engines with the thermal reactors are known to fail sooner then the later engines. And when it fails you might as well go with a 3.0 or 3.2 as the cost will be about the same for a rebuild of the stock 2.7 versus a used 3.0-3.2 engine (14K-22K for a used engine). Good luck on selling this car and good luck to the winning bidder, if it sells.

This is one of the cars that I can't help but click on when pcarmarket emails land in my inbox–great stance, well enjoyed, and well maintained. It might not be "original" enough for some P car buyers, but for me, it adds to the charm of a car that begs to be driven.

WOW! That was directed to me. Asking a serious questions, about the color change and paint on on this car which you clearly have NOT fully addressed and to " say it again to ensure transparency for serious buyers " Asking about the original color code and why there is obvious visible BROWN paint on the car has me "seriously" concerned, just to show you I'm a "serious" buyer , IM CURRENTLY THE HIGHEST BIDDER! Hopefully its worth my offer.

  • LOCO 2 months, 2 weeksago

  • Porschepulse (seller) 2 months, 2 weeksago

@LOCO The car’s original factory color was brown, and it has been repainted to black, as you can see the repaint was performed with great attention to detail to enhance the car’s aesthetic appeal while respecting its history. As mentioned previously, the engine compartment retains its original color for authenticity and transparency about the car’s history. This is a common practice in high-quality restorations to balance originality with aesthetic appeal. We’ve touched on this topic twice already, but I’m happy to address it again to ensure transparency for serious buyers. That said, the repeated focus on this aspect is unusual and raises questions about the intentions behind the inquiries. It is important to note this car’s rare sunroof delete and overall exceptional condition make it a highly desirable collector piece, even with the color change. Good to see you watching my auction, LOCO, and happy bidding to all!

  • LOCO (registered bidder) 2 months, 2 weeksago

So just to be clear here. The original paint on the car was BROWN? What kind of Brown color? Was it done properly like windows out all panels off the car, or they just paint exterior panels black, because I see visible Brown paint showing in the engine compartment walls, they forgot to shoot the paint there. Is there other panels of visible Brown paint on the car I should know about? That pretty sad would of probably valued more at the original color.

@Garden38 The engine work was completed by an experienced mechanic with a deep understanding of air-cooled Porsches at a local shop in Loudoun County. The focus was on ensuring quality and attention to detail, and the results speak for themselves in terms of performance and reliability. The paint work was also done in Loudoun County at a local shop known for their exceptional craftsmanship and attention to detail. If you are local and would like to have the car inspected by your own mechanic, I am completely open to that. Also, I am in the process of gathering all the receipts for the work and parts to provide a detailed record. Regarding the compression test and leak-down test. I will reach out to Porsche of Arlington and see how soon I get that scheduled. In regards to removing the battery, unfortunately I don't have the tools at the moment, but was able to shoot a video around it for now until I get tools and move it for the picture you requested. I also uploaded a video shifting the transmission per your request . Thank you for your interest.

  • Garden38 (registered bidder) 2 months, 2 weeksago

@Porschepulse Thank you for uploading the new video. Can you answer the other questions I asked?

  • Porschepulse (seller) 2 months, 2 weeksago

@Garden38 Please take a look at Video 4, driving the car on RT 66. It was a long video but I cut short. I can upload the rest of the video if needed. I will be uploading the rest of your request either today of tomorrow the lates. Thank you

  • Porschepulse (seller) 2 months, 2 weeksago

@Garden38 Thank you for pointing that out. You're absolutely correct—those headers don't have heater boxes, so the car does not currently have functional heat.

  • Porschepulse (seller) 2 months, 2 weeksago

@Andyjames01 Sorry, there is no heat in the car.

  • Garden38 (registered bidder) 2 months, 2 weeksago

@Andyjames01 If you look at pic 126 you'll see that that it doesn't have any heater box on those headers, so no heat .

  • Chipper (registered bidder) 2 months, 2 weeksago

Odd to see this re run so soon. It was in deal tank and eBay at an insane double market valuation. I don't understand the logic unless it's no reserve.

  • Porschepulse (seller) 2 months, 3 weeksago

@wadds1971 Thank you for your observation and insights. The car originally left the factory in brown, as reflected on the body tag. The facts are clear and visible in the pictures provided. The paint restoration was carried out meticulously to ensure a deep, glossy finish that complements the car's striking lines. The result is a beautifully presented car that looks exceptional in its current color. I understand that originality is highly valued by many enthusiasts, and I respect that perspective. That said, I believe the car’s rare sunroof delete option, extensive restoration work, and overall condition make it a standout example for the right buyer.

  • wadds1971 (registered bidder) 2 months, 3 weeksago

@Porschepulse - So, to be clear, your car was originally painted brown, but your registration came through indicating it was black. And, for that reason you decided to repaint the car in black? On the other hand, if the car was originally painted black, as the PCar description above states twice, how do you explain the original body tag in pic #73, that says the car was brown when it left the factory? Why not just admit what is obvious here. Your car was finished in brown at the factory, and at some later date (perhaps before you bought it) it was repainted black? That's perfectly within the rights of an owner to do (though it will usually diminish the car's value in the minds of most serious Porschephiles). Unfortunately, it appears the owner doing the color change decided to save money by not painting the inside of the engine compartment, and other not-readily-visible areas of the body. Understandable to some degree, but harder to justify in today's rapidly-escalating market values for air-cooled 911's, where originality and perfection are expected.

  • Porschepulse (seller) 2 months, 3 weeksago

@Bruce914 The engine compartment brown is because the car was originally brown before being repainted black. The black color was chosen to match the title, which lists the car as black. Also It is important to note that the car's exhaust system has been upgraded, and I will also check on the CAT tomorrow and get back to you.

  • wadds1971 (registered bidder) 2 months, 3 weeksago

I believe that, with a quick Google search, you will find that paint code 408, which is noted on the plate in pic #73, indicates this 911S was originally brown, and not black. The car has had a color change. I wonder what other important facts are unknown about this car? Check out this link:
    https://www.colors.rs/colorsearch?tag=759xrgIqSQ&searchtype=rs

  • Bruce914 (registered bidder) 2 months, 3 weeksago

Why is the engine compartment brown? On my last 2 911's it was the same color as the exterior. Is the CAT still on for us in a smog state?

  • Porschepulse (seller) 2 months, 3 weeksago

  • Porschepulse (seller) 2 months, 3 weeksago

@twickes40 you have sharper eyes than I do! The paper gasket and the cooling fins were areas addressed during the restoration and your observation on the gasket and the fins may be a result of overspray during the process.

  • Porschepulse (seller) 2 months, 3 weeksago

  • jjmonte (registered bidder) 2 months, 3 weeksago

  • twickes40 (registered bidder) 2 months, 3 weeksago

@seller picture 128 shows paint on the paper gaskets and silver overspray on the cooling fins. If it’s not spray paint, what is it?

  • Garden38 (registered bidder) 2 months, 3 weeksago

What shop did the engine out service and when? What are the leak down and compression numbers? What shop did the repaint and when? Did you have the receipts for the repaint? Can you provide photos of the battery area with the battery out, and also the underside of the battery area? In photo 76 and 89 the area around the oil filter looks brown. Same brown color in photo 88. Is this just bad lighting? When driving can the transmission be shifted directly into first from neutral from a stop without any bad noises, such as grinding?
Can you provide a driving video that is done on RT66 or 495 so we can hear/see how the car is at those speeds?
    Thank you
