This is a street/track legal Outlaw tribute to the iconic 911 Carrera RSR race cars of the early International Race of Champions (IROC) series, this 1977 Porsche 911S underwent a full custom restoration completed in 2022 by Air Cooled Classics. Nicknamed “The Gray Ghost”, this uncompromising build features steel fender flares and IROC bodywork along with a custom racing-style interior, Rotiform 917 forged 3-piece wheels, Bilstein/Tarett suspension, Big Porsche 993 brakes, a newly built transmission, and a 3.3-liter 964 twin-plug engine. It has functioning signal lights, headlights, and windshield wipers.
Driven just over 300 miles since completion, this freshly completed and street-legal 911 IROC tribute is now being offered for auction out of Tennessee.
During the restoration, paint and bodywork are said to have been completed by Famed Mike Coy of Gas Monkey Garage in Texas. The car was completely disassembled and fitted with wide steel fenders, fiberglass IROC-style bumpers, and an IROC-style rear wing. The underbody is coated with Raptor protective bedliner material and the car is finished in the modern nonmetallic Porsche color of Chalk. Other features include yellow glass H4 headlights with LED bulbs, clear signal and taillight lenses with colored LED bulbs, aluminum windshield tabs and rear window straps, lightweight polycarbonate windows, vented rear quarter windows, retractable Rennline front tow hook, 935-style mirrors with drilled and powder coated outer door handles. The car rides on a set of Porsche 917-style wheels by Rotiform that are forged 3 piece type measuring 9”x17” with TOYO 245/45Rs in front and 11”x17” 315/35s in the rear.
The cabin has been painted to match the exterior and fitted with black RS carpeting along with a full GT Competition roll cage and fitted with custom color matching Recaro Pole Position seats trimmed in grey suede with painted backrests and multicolor Carrera cloth inserts. Other additions include custom lightweight carbon fiber look aluminum door panels, carbon fiber dashboard, a MOMO C6 Prototipo steering wheel, 911R-style window pulls, aluminum Rennline pedals and floorboards, a custom 917 maple wood shift knob, removable driver window net, a carbon-faced tattletale tachometer, dash-mounted shift indicator light, and custom dashboard switches including a push to start button. Racing safety equipment includes new 5-point harnesses, an electrical cutoff switch, a Fuel Safe 17-gallon fuel cell, and a Lifeline fire suppression system.
Originally the engine was built by Peter Dawe Motorsports as a race engine. The air-cooled flat-six in this 911 has been detuned and freshly rebuilt 964 based short-stroke 3.3-liter twin-plug unit. The engine includes a shuffle-pinned case, Raceware head studs, JE 11:1 pistons, Pauter titanium connecting rods, Daugherty racing cam, titanium valves and spring retainers, ASCO valve springs, PMO 50mm carburetors with tall manifold, a JB Racing twin plug distributor, twin MSD digital ignition boxes with blaster coils, Taylor 8mm plug wires, and an RSR stainless lightweight engine mount bar with solid mounts. The exhaust headers are made from 1.75” diameter stainless steel with dual 2” Supertramp mufflers and mounts. The cooling system incorporates SST side oil lines and a large "CSF" RSR front-mounted oil cooler. A newly rebuilt aluminum 915 5-speed manual gearbox drives the rear wheels and features a new limited slip differential, solid mounts, and a Rennshift short shifter. The car weighs in at approximately 2,200 lbs. while producing around 350 HP according to the seller.
The chassis is reinforced with RSR stiffening plates, gussets, and bars. The suspension includes standard A-arms with bronze Tarett race bearings and Bilstein strut assemblies with raised spindles and a Rebel Racing coilover setup. The front end also features Turbo tie rods with RSR spacers, a rebuilt steering rack, a 22mm Tarett through-body sway bar with adjustable ends, Tarett adjustable upper strut mounts, Tarett offset ball joints, an aluminum crossbar, and tie-down plates. In the rear, aluminum control arms are paired with Tarett spherical bushings, new hub bearings, rebuilt axles, Bilstein Sport coilovers, and an adjustable 22mm Tarett sway bar. Stopping power comes from upgraded Porsche 993 calipers with two-piece front floating rotors, rear custom lightweight two-piece rotors, stainless steel lines, cooling scoops, and a 23mm vacuum-assisted master cylinder.
This sale will include a clean Tennessee title.

@RSRDriver I will have to say that the twin plug system does help. It helps with flame propagation in the combustion chamber. But yes timing is part of it too!
The dual plug set up plus timing is what Porsche did with the 964s and 993 to be able to use 11.5 compression on stock engines with 91-93 unleaded fuel. This engine is set up on a 964 engine. But with a 3.0L crank. A Dawe set up originally.
We have the timing is set at 30 degrees at full advance
We tuned it with 91 octane/100% fuel. It runs great an revs very fast!
Thanks!
@PorscheDoc Not at 12:1 or 11:1. Twin plug has nothing to do with it, but correct ignition timing would. 10.5:1 is closer to the tipping point, race gas or best grade of pump fuel.
Here are the engine specifications.
This is originally built by Peter Dawe Motorsports as a race engine.
Now a rebuilt fresh short stroke 3.3 L-based 964 twin plug engine.
Also now detuned for longevity
The case is shuffle pinned
Boat tailed mains
Racewear head studs
It uses a 3.0 L 70.4 stroke crankshaft
100 mm bore hundred millimeter
JE 11-1 pistons pins and total seal rings
Pauter titanium rods
Daugherty racing cam GE 65 power range between 3500-7500 RPMs
Titanium valves
Titanium valve spring retainers
Complete valve job with guards and seals
ASCO Race valve springs “New”
PMO 50 mm carburetors with tall manifold

Bid in the amount of $35,000
@Pcars and Guys! Sorry there is a typo on the compression numbers!
The compression numbers are 11-1… Sorry for the confusion!????
Pump gas at 12:1 even with twin plug, tall order. Can you clarify the setup further please.
Here ie the full picture file of this great car and project.

@Somer Yes it will run on 91-93 fuel’s due to being a twin purge engine.
Bid in the amount of $20,000
With 12:1 pistons how does it deal with pump gas ?
