Produced exclusively for the German market in the 1976 model year, the Porsche 911 Carrera 2.7 Sondermodell was the last 911 to feature the mechanically fuel-injected Type 911/83 engine derived from the legendary Carrera RS. The Sondermodell was produced in a limited series of 113 examples designated by option code M504 and special 9000 series chassis numbers, typically reserved for race cars. These cars were reportedly built to use leftover RS-spec engine parts and featured a limited-slip differential, Bilstein shock absorbers, an 18mm roll bar, a 380mm Sport steering wheel, and a specially geared 5-speed Type 915/43 manual transmission as standard equipment. This example was produced during the final two months of the 1976 model year and was sold new in Munich where it remained until being imported to Louisiana in 1986. It was acquired by the previous owner and relocated to Florida in 1993. Since then, the car has been stored and maintained at the workshop of David Glenn, a legend in the Porsche community with previous technical experience at Brumos, Kelly Moss, RUF, and Porshe Motorsport NA. Benefitting from a full professional repaint, an interior restoration, and a meticulous engine rebuild performed under the care of its owner of over 30 years, this rare Carrera 2.7 Sondermodell is now being offered for auction out of Florida.
The Carrera 2.7 can be distinguished from a standard 911 of the era by its flared fenders, front air dam, and Whale Tail rear spoiler. The Sondermodell comes without a rear “Carrera” badge and is equipped with 15” Fuchs wheels as standard. This example was professionally refinished in its original color of Copper Brown Metallic in 1993 and has been kept in a climate-controlled facility ever since. The seller adds that the Fuchs wheels were restored and fitted with new Pirelli P8000 tires in 2019. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.
Featuring black leather and tartan cloth upholstery, the interior was fully restored using Lakewell-sourced materials in 2019. The Sondermodell came standard with a 380mm Sport steering wheel, aluminum door sill trim, manual roll-up windows, lightweight needle-felt velour carpeting, and an oil pressure and level gauge.
This 911 is equipped with an RS-spec 2.7-liter Type 911/83 flat-six engine featuring Bosch mechanical fuel injection. Up to 210 HP is sent to the rear wheels through a 5-speed Type 915/43 manual gearbox with a special 26:25 fourth gear ratio and a limited-slip differential. The Sondermodell is equipped with Bilstein shocks, an 18mm rear anti-roll bar, a 1.5 HP starter motor, and front A-type cast iron brake calipers as standard. The car’s engine and transmission were rebuilt by David Glenn in 2004 at 115,517 km (72k miles). Since 2019, the car was also serviced with a brake system overhaul, new OEM shocks, new front sway bar and A-arm bushings, valve clearance adjustments, fresh fluids, and leak-down and compression tests. The seller notes the car covered just 2,724 km (1,692 miles) since the engine rebuild was completed and was periodically started and driven to preserve its mechanical health.
This sale will include an owner’s manual, a toolkit, a spare tire, restoration photos, letters of authenticity from Porsche, and a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: “This is an incredible and rare 911. Expertly restored to a very high standard, it drives as good as it looks.”

@rabender when you find more of these in this condition for $200k let me know. I’ll buy all of them.
A car just like this in Green in similar concours (#1) condition sold for ~$200K late last year. $290K is
a bit high for this car in this market. The 1974 MFI's have set the market price for these beautiful
vehicles that Porsche built from the "left over" MFI engines s/p 1974 transition to CIS. Let me know
if you can be more flexible in your pricing. Thx, RAB
@LewCM Thanks!

I just added photos of Porsche documentation confirming the as built engine number and a photo of the engine stamping. This car is as original as they get. Good luck bidding.
Additional content has been added to the gallery for this listing.
@Slim_Chance it is the as built engine and transmission. I'm sending photos of the Porsche documentation and engine stamp to post.
Is the engine in the car the one it left the factory with? Seems glossed over in the descriptions. No photos either. By now I would think a Kardex for sure and perhaps even a Certificate of Authenticity would have been in the files. I had a Copper Bronze car and it is beautiful in all lighting. #432 kupferbraunmetallic
Thank you.

@archstanton yes the RNM on that other site was before I bought the car. I’m surprised how little love it got there. FYI - Hagerty values are: Concours $425,000, Excellent $348,000, Good $265,000 and Fair $218,000. Good luck bidders!
Hello everyone. I'll be available throughout the auction for any questions you may have about this amazing car. I'm primarily a collector but I'm also a low volume dealer and this car will be sold through my dealership. I bought it 2 years ago for my personal collection, but life circumstances change and I've decided to sell a few of my "forever keepers". If you've never driven a 2.7 MFI with the 915/43 gearbox all I can say is it's my favorite Porsche to drive (and I've owned or driven nearly every model from every generation). Raw analog power to the extreme! (all 210hp!). Here is a great article on the Sondermodell here https://roadscholars.com/the-car-that-inspired-a-book-ryan-snodgrass-1976-carrera-2-7-mfi/
Good luck bidders!
@bpcesf Driving video and 80+ more photos taken this morning were recently posted. Mechanical restoration was performed by David Gregg who also managed the paint and interior work though I don't know the name of the shops he used. I trust his judgement. Cheers.
This car was RNM on BAT twice. For anyone interested, there was tons of discussion of the Sondermodells.
Can you share who did the restoration work? I may have missed it. Also, driving video would be great. Thank you!
@jdm Oh for sure, and I'd be surprised if there were even 20 from 1976 in the US.
Bid in the amount of $100,000
@jfcowell What I meant is that although none were sold in the USA because they did not meet emission standards, several were imported in the US after the 25 years period. And I believe there are under 20 units of the Sondermodel (Carrera MFI 1976) that were imported into the USA. So this one is probably one of 20 that currently resides here.
The letter says 123 built, not 113. Beautiful car - following closely.
Bid in the amount of $50,000
I saw this car in person back in 2020 in Amelia Island at the Saturday morning Cars & Coffee before the Sunday Concours. These pictures don't do this color justice. This color and condition of the paint is stunning in person. The overall condition of the car is fantastic. Best of luck to the seller and the new will be very happy.
I am a fan!
@jdm None of the MFI Carrera cars were officially imported to the US.

Absolutely best driving air cooled 911. Rare, beautiful and still undervalued by the market. 116 made in 1976, if I am not mistaken under 20 units imported to the USA.
Unique offering!
