This 1975 Porsche 911 Carrera “R-Gruppe” outlaw is the result of a perfectly executed vision. What was just a dream for many years finally became reality, when the second owner since 1981 proposed this project to Kelly Moss Road and Race in 2012. Pairing up with Rothsport Racing shop, these two master builders have turned this stock 911 into the world-class outlaw you see today.
The restoration began with an immediate disassembly of hardware. It was then stripped down to bare metal, confirming zero rust and no damage whatsoever. The 911's original sheet metal was then professionally painted in the car's factory color of Cockney Brown. Alongside this unique and eye-catching finish, you will find many upgrades such as:
Overall, this exterior stands in show-quality condition.
Inside, you will find a bespoke leather interior that is finished to perfection. The original 1975 Recaro racing seats were reupholstered along with a new leather dashboard, leather door cards with lightweight RS door pulls, and a new black headliner. Custom Carrera carpet has been installed along with red seatbelts, OEM seatbelt receivers, aluminum pedal set, MOMO steering wheel, and custom gauge cluster with a 10,000 RPM tachometer. It is safe to say that no expense was spared on this high-caliber interior.
Replacing the original 2.7L block is a robust 3.6L 993 Varioram engine, which was hand selected and used for greater horsepower and torque. After being completely re-worked, this engine now produces approximately 315HP (an 80% increase over the cars original motor). This power is sent to the rear wheels via a rebuilt magnesium-case 915 transmission. For maximum stopping power, this 911 sports Pagid competition brake pads, upgraded 2-piece aluminum hat floating brake rotors, new mounts, and cross drilled Porsche OEM brake rotors.

Built for performance, this 911 also highlights a completely reworked suspension system including motion control suspension remote reservoirs with 18-click double adjustable struts and shocks, 19mm raised spindles with competition gussets, 22mm sway bars with billet upper shock tower support, upper mono ball shock mounts, and a TRG shock tower brace. Additionally, Elephant Racing poly bronze suspension bearings and bushings were added all around with Elephant Racing advanced tech adjustable rear spring plates and their quick-change rear splined hub. Porsche Turbo tire rods were also added, along with WEVO RARB console rear sway reinforcements, a TRG bump steer kit, and hollow torsion bars (24mm front, 31mm rear).
When completed, the proud owner took the car to five different concours events. At four regional events, the car took 1st place in the G-body class with a score never lower than 178 out of 180 points. Recently, this 911 won first in class at the 50th anniversary of Rennfest in Atlanta, GA with a score of 179.8 out of 180 points.

Please don't take this as a knock on the car. It is amazing. But why, exactly, is this being marketed as an "R-Gruppe" car? Is it owned by an RG member? It certainly has many great parts and a solid pedigree from the builders. That makes it a great hotrod, but that doesn't make it an RGruppe car. And it definitely doesn't appear to have been driven like we expect of RGruppe members- we aren't exactly known to participate in concours events.. The members get the numbers, not the cars. Anyway, GLWTA, the car is fantastic and the new owner will be a happy camper
@KingP993 No problem. No, there is no issue with the DMV. As long as you have the title you can register it. The DMV does not require a smog check for the car when you go to register it for the first time.
@canepamotorsport is that an easy process? Reason I ask is when I built a bmw with engine swap, I eventually got it CA bard but it took a few attempts. However it was a 1991. So being that this is within rule you stated, I can just go to DMV? Or being that you are acting as dealer, will you take care of it? Sorry I’ve never been through this. Thanks
AND, I still have many of the original parts including the 2.7 lt engine, carpets, original and restored perfect whale tail, brakes, rear bumper, restored OEM sport steering wheel etc!

@KingP993 Hi, I'm the owner. It is currently registered in Texas. But I understand as a 1975 model year as a 43 year old "historic/classic" vehicle it is legal to be registered in CA.
Please let me know if have any other questions. The description only covers about 50% of the build!
@KingP993 Not to California currently, but it can be! The car luckily falls under the pre-1975 smog exemption and will be able to be registered to drive on California roads. The car is currently at our facility in Scotts Valley, California.

Morning, everyone. We just wanted to add a few details to the build that the story doesn't cover.
The restoration was done over the period of 3 years by Kelly Moss Road and Race that was completed in 2015. It was a no-expense-spared build, including many well-known Porsche-specific shops like Rothsport Racing for the 993 3.6-liter engine build, Autobahn Interiors for the new leather and carpet, with the 915 magnesium-case transmission rebuilt by Brian Copans. Porsche GT gears were added for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear.
Porsche 993 Turbo big brakes were added, all new stainless steel brake lines, new 2-piece aluminum hat floating brake rotors and mounts, OEM brake rotors drilled, custom Kelly Moss carbon fiber front brake cooling ducts and rotor covers, and a 23mm master cylinder.
All of the interior gauges were refurbished by Hollywood Speedometers, and a new 10,000rpm STACK tachometer with memory and max functions were added.
It also received a few other notable upgrades, such as a custom fuse panel and wiring conversion to modern "spade" fuses, custom billet remote shock towner absorber reservoir mounts, and a 6x15 Porsche Fuchs alloy spare wheel with a NOS collapsible Vredestein tire with a 1973 Porsche 911 RS tire CO2 inflator. A Rennline aluminum blower motor cover was added, and an NOS 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS 88-liter plastic fuel cell. Custom BBS Motorsport E28 3-piece wheels with magnesium centers with aluminum halves were used. They were completely disassembled, centers microfluxed to check for cracks, then they were powder coated and reassembled with all new BBS hardware.
Saw this yesterday at the PCarmarket tent at Werks. This car is nothing short of perfection. The build quality is as good as you can ask. Just a fabulous car guys! GL

@Upshift4 is correct that the car began as a real Carrera, and the owner used it in various events during his ownership.
We are out at Laguna Seca this weekend but we will try to answer as many questions as we can during the event today and tomorrow. We are planning on uploading a driving video and accurate audio. The exhaust note that comes from this car is ferocious.
