Up for auction is this 1975 Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe finished in a classic black over black color combination.  With its iconic 911 styling along with an aggressive stance, this car demands attention wherever it goes.  Representing one out of a small few 75' Carrera's available in the US, this example offers a great opportunity for any enthusiast that is seeking a distinctive air-cooled 911.  Now being offered with a clean bill of health, this Carrera is ready to be enjoyed by its new caretaker.

Having undergone a professional refinish in its original color of black, the seller notes that this Carrera shows to be in good condition.  Adding a unique touch, this example is factory equipped with Gold "Carrera" livery running along the bottom of each door.  A few exterior features include a factory Carrera whale tail spoiler, fog lights, and factory black Fuchs wheels that wear a set of General Altimax tires.

The sporty black partial leather interior is said to be in original condition with minimal signs of wear. The well-kept condition of the carpets, door panels, headliner, and dashboard show the pride of ownership this car has received throughout its life.  All electronics and accessories are said to be in working order.

This Carrera retains its numbers matching 2.7L flat-six engine that produces 165HP and 167 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a desirable 5-speed manual transmission. Prior to the sellers acquisition, a Connecticut dealer fine-tuned the fuel injection system and mounted a new set of tires.  Already in excellent running condition, the current owner brought this 911 to a higher level by addressing several items recommended by his technician such as;

  • Replaced Engine Mounts
  • Clutch Cable Adjustment
  • Rebuilt left and right Front Brake Calipers
  • Installed new Headlamp Scoops
  • Replaced Master Cylinder
  • Replaced Shifter Bushing and Coupler
  • Replaced Outer Tie Rod Ends
  • New Blower Motor
  • New Fuel Pump
  • New Turn Signal Relay
  • Complete Interior/Exterior Detail

The seller describes this Carrera as an honest, well-sorted example that has been revitalized and ready to enjoy.

Following the 1973 introduction of the Carrera RS, Porsche continued with Carrera production and development. While Rest of the World (ROW) examples received the Mechanical Fuel Injection from the '73 model, the US Carrera received the K-Jetronic CIS (Continuous Fuel Injection) system of the 911S.  The Carrera featured wider rear quarter panels like famed 73 RS as well as an optional Carrera one piece whale tail spoiler which contributes to its aggressive demeanor.  Some believe this to be one of the most aggressive looking Porsches of the era.

The sale will include a master key, and a Certificate of Authenticity.  This is an excellent opportunity to acquire a distinctive and special G-body 911 that is sure to provide plenty of enjoyment behind the wheel.

@EUROsellinc: How easy/hard is it to get another key for this vehicle?

  • Caymanorcarrera (registered bidder) 4 years, 1 monthago

Notice the absence of impact bumper Carreras in the DT? And I'm thinking decent, relatively stock '84-'89 cars.

This SE Carrera is the nicest impact bumper currently on here by far (-:

@steve-racer Dang, just when you thought you had all these yearly options figured out - thanks Steve!

  • steve-racer 4 years, 3 monthsago

@porschehabitat '74 USA Carreras had ducktails, -75's had this tail. You could order your Carrera without the tail , but this is the tail that was factory.

  • steve-racer 4 years, 3 monthsago

@Jmerino14 (not to high jack this '75 carrera's auction) the reason I have the tail is I bought a 80' Weissach with an aftermarket tail on it. . it is a pretty good copy in all fiberglass and the PO did know it was a copy until I looked at the car and informed him of the bad news. the original was stolen early in it's life because the PO owned it for 25 years. I searched for a long time for an original tail and had to pay way to much for it ; ) The copy tail is so correct in appearance that I will leave it on knowing I have a real one to go with car some day after my time. My real tail is Mexico blue and I will have it color matched to the Weissach at some point. So, i am sorry but my Weissach really needs an original tail, even if it is in a box. is your fiberglass part deteriorated , the metal frame or the rubber lip? the rubber lip can be replaced , again a rare part but the rubber part is the same as the 75-77 turbo and ROW 3.0 Carreras of 76-77. your tail is rare enough that it would be worth it to have a fiberglass pro fix it , even if it needs new metal on the inside , original or after market "donor" tails are available. hopefully the metal part with the part number can be saved. This black Carrera is sweet , I am sure it will do well in this auction !!!!!

@steve-racer Bingo! I’ve got the #2 (Vin 12) car of the 384 US 75’ 2.7L Coupe’s. What I’ve been told was that in 1974 the factory had a shortage of the “stock” tails, so the US production was given the whale tail. I could definitely use a new tail as mine is extremely weathered, would you be willing to part with yours?

  • steve-racer 4 years, 3 monthsago

@porschehabitat the tail is original on '75's and they have a part number on them. under the paint, passenger side of the wing on the metal subframe up near the grill. I have had 2 '75 usa Carreras . the tail is unique to the '75 Carrera and the '80 Weissach coupe. 395 carreras and 408 Weissachs. a very rare tail. I have an extra one in a box with the part number visible.

  • ROren 4 years, 3 monthsago

@porschehabitat I beg to differ with you . I own a 75 Carrera Targa . It is completely original. I have the same tail. It is factory. Period.

  • porschehabitat (registered bidder) 4 years, 4 monthsago

@EUROsellinc Interesting, I'm no Carrera expert, but I thought the "Carrera" spoiler was intro'd in later models, perhaps with SC's, 3.2's, etc... and that the "Ducktail" was specific to early 70's RS's and 74/75 Carrera's.....either way, thanks for the quick reply. I'll check my reference books and see what is what.

So many wonderful 911's, so many details to remember.....

  • EUROsellinc (seller) 4 years, 4 monthsago

@porschehabitat hello and thanks for the interest. The paint was done prior to my ownership and looks fantastic with excellent depth and shine. I have verified with several experts that this is the original spoiler for the car and is infact a very rare decklid/spoiler to have.

  • porschehabitat (registered bidder) 4 years, 4 monthsago

Also, do you have photos of the car before you painted it? Was there any body or chassis cancer? You know, eastcoast climate/salt + early 911 = rust issues.

  • porschehabitat (registered bidder) 4 years, 4 monthsago

Nice looking Carrera, they looked great then and great now. Regarding the "factory Carrera Whaletail", is not an original factory equipment, but works on this car, as it does on the later models it was introduced on. Most Carrera's (all?) came with a "Ducktail" rear spoiler - does it come with the sale?

  • EUROsellinc (seller) 4 years, 8 monthsago

@-PORSCHE- appreciate the feedback, I’m happy to accept more!! This is priced at what I feel is a realistic price for this that is both fair and reasonable. Thanks for the interest.

  • Slim_Chance 4 years, 8 monthsago

@-PORSCHE- These weren't bad engines but did suffer from heat issues due to the attempts by the factory to meet emissions. They are notorious leakers which can be fixed but it's not an inexpensive proposition. Most, if not all have had head stud issues addressed by now but you would want proof. IF I were buying (and this is a very interesting car) I'd want to see documentation.
A brave man might go after the exhaust system with the understanding that the exhaust studs can break in a NY minute. I've been on "that train" too many times. Steven Stomski makes a nice do-it-yourself kit or seek a good machinist. EDM machines are the cat's meow but regardless it's still an engine out procedure.
Money no object, I'd pull this one and set it aside. Finding a good 3.0 or 3.2 to replace it may be cheaper in the long run. Good luck.

  • -PORSCHE- 4 years, 8 monthsago

@Slim_Chance , Thanks! That's very interesting. Now that you pointed that out - something I had not considered before - I wonder if even with the replacement of the heat exchangers with SSI or used OEM heat exchangers at ~$1000 or possibly less would make a difference. Because it's still an engine of the type that earned a bad reputation back in the day, would it need to be rebuilt from heads out to remove the "stigma"?

  • Slim_Chance 4 years, 8 monthsago

@-PORSCHE- I'm guessing picture #86 could be one reason. The last car to run standard "old school" heat exchanger/headers was in '74. Thermal Reactors aren't what you want to see. These may be "look-alike" to fool emissions inspection but if not they aren't helping sell the car. Either a set of "headers" into the heat exchangers or a set of SSI's would be an upgrade, albeit expensive.
The air injection ports have been plugged so this wouldn't pass a CA visual inspection missing the air pump and lines. A Black '75 Carrera was always a great looking car.

  • -PORSCHE- 4 years, 8 monthsago

I don't understand... Why so cheap? I have a 1974 Carrera coupe and would never sell at this price. Of course, I may never sell at any price. Great car. Nothing like a "normal" 911...

@GillesB Thank you for your interest. This vehicle currently shows 3254 on the odometer, which is possibly 103,254, but the true mileage is unknown (TMU). The vehicle is located in Oyster Bay NY, 11771.

@OneTrueCarGuy Thank you! We appreciate your support.

  • OneTrueCarGuy (registered bidder) 4 years, 8 monthsago

I own number 307 with this one being 292. Great cars and finally getting their due with regards to value. It would be safe to assume this car has 103,211 miles and not 3,211. My car has just hit 21,000 original miles and looks virtually brand new. Nice example here and best of luck with the auction.

  • GillesB (registered bidder) 4 years, 8 monthsago

    Hi
Not sure to understand the mileage here........and why the post does not mention anything about it. This is obviously not a 3K Miles car.
    And
Where is the car located and which days are best to see it ?
    Tks
